This year (2006) we've been here at OKW in August, September & right now and have not noticed any dropping of standards.

Merry Christmas from building 64 at Old Key West!

Pretty split decision right now...will have to keep tuned....

In 2006 we stayed at OKW for a total of 25 nights in 5 different units. Nothing bad to report.

The last time we were at OKW, our room was in great shape. Very clean. I could still smell the bleach.

But I did notice at the main pool that the pool umbrellas looked like they needed replaced. And I thought the main pool bathrooms and Olivia's (the floors) looked like they needed a good scrubbing. I guess what made me notice it was that we had just came from Marriott Horizons and the main bathrooms and main pool deck umbrellas were absolutely spotless.

I commented to my husband that if I thought Olivia's would let me, I would roll up my sleeves and move all the chairs out of Olivia's at night and scrub that floor down. ;) But I love OKW. I've been tempted to add on 40 points just to say that I own something there.

the quiet pool was dirty. I was in 2 different studios and both needed work on the toilet (same problem).

the pool area was overgrown. but they finally send a crew out to work on it - problem was the crew do nothing on the overgrown with a view. So the view at this pool is disappearing quickly. (while half the team stood around and talked....)

I think Disney would, logically, pay more attention to the results of their own member surveys rather than an unregulated, anonymous poll on a website. Who knows if the majoity of voters here are DVC members, or have even stayed at OKW, or are internet trolls and pot-stirrers?

I'm sure you'll put some spin on the results Chuck, funny there does seem to be a few posters who agree with me and our members like myself !!

Again, ANY internet poll is subject to scrutiny. It is open to everyone, trolls, pot-stirrers, and members. To state this type of open poll is proof of anything is wrong. They are easily skewed.

Well i'm sure you'd agree there are some problems at OKW with standards at the minute.

Of-course any Poll has to be taken in the right context, but in this case it does look more or less spot on given members posts. They can't be all "trolls, pot-stirrers" :confused3

But, are they actually slipping...or did someone get lucky on one visit and have the absolute perfect room, then have a room with minor issues on their next visit? As I said, there have been minor probelms during several of our stays over the years...we've gotten some more or less "perfect" rooms. I don't see that changing.

Spot on, how? There are no deinitions of the criteria. For instance, does "Slipping Standards" include things over which DVC/OKW no direct control, ie Olivia's menu, bus service, whether rooms are ready when you check-in at 8am? There are also no limitations to who can vote, as I previously stated. If you are referring to "members posts" in this thread, you are mistaken. There are 7 total posters in this thread, two with negative experiences (28.57%), three positive(42.85%), and 2 basically undecided(28.57%), yet your poll has 73 votes, showing a lower percentage of satisfied owners a higher percentage of folks thinking standards are dropping...so the numbers are not spot on between the posts and the poll. And those with issues tend to be more vocal than than those that have a great time...so again, anonymous internet polls really mean nothing.

Well i've an idea if the DVC has no influence over WDW with regards Olivia's, lets try and get a members meeting together ? then if things are not sorted out vote to close Olivia's down and replace it with an outside company.

Because i'll tell you this i'll not be eating in it again unless it improves !!

Members have no voting power. This isn't a democracy.

The only thing that could happen would be for the owners of OKW to vote to remove DVC as the timeshare manager for the resort. Until that happens, the POS effectively gives Disney the authority to run the resort and the program as they see fit, and we all agreed to the terms of the POS when we bought into DVC.

As for Olivia's, the restaurant isn't even funded by member dues. The WDW Dining division operates the restaurant, sets the menus and so forth. You can complain to DVC, but even then all they can do is forward complaints to the dining people.

Because i'll tell you this i'll not be eating in it again unless it improves !!

That's about the only thing you can do...vote with your wallet. Sadly the DDP insures that restaurants will still be packed to the gills, so losing a few cash customers probably won't even be noticable.

I wasn't sure tjkraz thanks, sounds a bit like Mr BUSH :rotfl:

It would be still interesting to arrange a meeting to voice our concerns.

Umm, there is a meeting where you have a brief opportunity to ask questions and voice your concerns...the annual resort board/public meetings. But as tjkraz correctly stated, we have no voting power. Unless someone actually wants to spend the money to legally contact each and every OKW owner, and then the only thing you could vote on would be to dump DVC as the management agency...basically withdrawing the resort from the DVC system. And the chance of a vote actually in favor of dumping DVC is just about nil.

Stayed in a one bedroom in building 51 recently. Everything was excellent about the building and room. Service was excellent. Only gripe was that the quiet pool got too cold after the third day of our 7 day stay.

Have never had a bad experience at OKW in the 10 years we have owned there.

By contrast our room at Vero looked worn and it is clear that some minor, but noticeable facets of the resort have not yet recovered from the hurricane damage. The pool there was way too cold. But that's another thread....

We've been in 2 studios and 3 one bedrooms over the past two years and not had one problem! We absolutely love OKW and would recommend it to anyone. It seems like those who get a bad villa always seem to get a really bad one (multiple problems). I have to say, we've had wonderful villas.:)
