I posted this question on the Resort boards, but I think I might get better responses over here.

Is there a huge difference between staying at a mod resort such as CBR vs. staying at OKW or SSR in a studio other than the price and having a microwave? Has anyone stayed at both that can give me their opinion?

Personally I would rather be in a studio but that's me. I am not a huge hotel fan and both the OKW and SSR both have a more homey feel. :goodvibes

When you enter your villa, you close the door tp foot traffic and you can relax on your balcony. It's more private and you have an outside area. You have the frig for some beverages, make your own coffee, and you are able to have breakfast, snack, outside, not in the hotel room. It seems a lot nicer to me.

I have done both...

Studios have a proper kitchenette area with a regular under the counter-size fridge which can accomodate full size 2 liter sodas and 1/2 gallon containers of milk, toaster, coffee maker, sink and cabinets. Mods have only a dorm size fridge and coffeemaker.

Studios have a regular closet, including a ironing board and iron, with a proper door, not open with a rod as in a mod.

Studios have either private terrace or balcony depending on the floor. I haven't measure them both, but it seems to me the total square footage of a studio is larger than a mod.

If you stay on points at a studio you only get trash & towel not daily housekeeping as you would in a mod.

DVC has larger rooms, beds, and more amenities. Moderates are budget motels with heavy themeing. I'm a DVC member, so I'm biased, but there's no way I pick a moderate over a DVC studio.

Only CSR has rooms with queen sized beds. An OKW studio has two queen sized beds. A SSR studio has one queen sized bed and one double sleeper sofa.

Moderates do not have balconies and the back wall of the moderate room will back up to another moderate room. Studios do not back up to another villa.

The refrigerator in a moderate is only cube sized. In a studio it is undercounter sized (about twice the space) and includes a small freezer section. Plus you get the microwave and toaster not in a moderate.

Also, you have access to a free washer and dryer with a studio. You have to pay at least $2 a load to wash and $2 a load to dry (and it usually takes more than one cycle to dry).

Free washer and dryer and balcony or a huge plus. This trip I don't need a queen bed, but it would be a nice upgrade. :thumbsup2 If you could choose between OKW and SSR which one would you go for?

I don't usually do studios (check out my signature), but I would go with OKW over SSR just for the two queen sized beds over the one bed and one sleeper sofa. But that's just me. Both OKW and SSR are wonderful resorts.

I absolutely love POFQ! It's by far my favorite themed resort & you can't beat beignets for breakfast, but the deal breaker for me is the lack of private balcony or patio. I just love to sit on my balcony at night sipping a cocktail with DH while the kids are inside watching TV & I without that I start to feel claustrophobic. :scared:

I stayed at POR then bought into DVC and wife and I then stayed at SSR studio in the springs section. To answer which one depends on who is going with you, how many people. For the wife an I we loved having the bed and then a couch to hang out instead of another bed. Loved the balcony to again hang out. We really enjoyed POR but if I had the choice I would probably stay in a studio at SSR, very easy walk to DTD to grab something to eat. I think the counter service set up at SSR is poorly laid out. If we had the kids we would consider the OKW studio due to the 2 beds but like the sofa bed you can't fold it up for more room. Well to tell the truth we bought DVC so we would have a kitchen so if we stay at a studio it will just be for the two of us and even then we will try to get a 1br...sorry to get off topic but we don't like to eat out so the kitchen saves us some cash.

Not sure what the price diff is for you but I don't think the cash price they charge for a DVC studio warrants the price of staying at a place like POR. I really liked the POR resort and our room was nice.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

With only one person, or two people sharing a bed, I like the layout of the SSR studios---having the couch gives more of a sense of space, and it is more functional. If you need two beds, though, I'd lean to OKW.

Beyond that, OKW is a little more lush, SSR is a little more sophisticated. SSR is well-located to DTD. OKW's rooms are bigger, but the way the walls angle, the space doesn't strike me as particularly well-configured.

All in all, if it were just my wife and I, I might lean to SSR, just because of the couch.
