Congratulations and Welcome Home!

The one bedrooms at OKW are larger than the one bedrooms at SSR. However, I would choose to stay at SSR because it is new. Also, I really liked the decor and the layout. By no means is SSR small. They are rooms that are typical in size to BWV, BCV and VWL. In any case, you will love either resort.

Around November 13th, the Food and Wine Festival will be going on. This is a prime time for DVCers. The points are lower than other times of the year but because of the festival, you may have difficulty. Although, OKW may be available and SSR as well because they are not close to Epcot like BWV and BCV. Epcot is where the festival takes place.

With two adults and one small child, either resort would work out very nice for you. Both have rather nice main pool areas, plus nice quiet pools as well. You have a full sized washer and dryer in OKW and stackable units in SSR (and the other DVC resorts). OKW is huge compared to the other DVC resorts, but they are still very nice and much larger than a standard hotel room. You'll have a jacuzzi tub in both, plus a stand alone shower.

The balconies at OKW are a lot larger, with a round table and four chairs. The balconies at the other DVC resorts are smaller (long and narrow, with two chairs and a small side table).

We just got back from OKW in January (our first home resort) and will be heading back to SSR in June (we also stayed there in Oct). We like the community feel the these resorts compared to the hotel atmosphere of the other three at WDW.

What's the weather usually like in January? I'm trying to figure out if the points are lower because of the weather or because it's right after the holidays.

Thanks.

It can be quite chilly down here in January. :cold: But it's not hurricane season so you'd have more issues with the temps than with rain in Jan. Points are lower pretty much because everything quiets down after the holidays, the temps are colder and kids are in school -- it's just off season. Jan. can be a great time to be down here though. It's particularly nice for the parks since you won't wait in long lines in the heat and as much as it can be cold, it also can be quite nice like 60's to 70's ;)

Definetly OKW 1bdrms are larger. They're the largest of all the DVC resorts;) That said, we stayed at BCV's in a 1bdrm this past Oct. and it was very nice...SSR should be comparable in size to BCV's. While SSR will be a bit smaller, I wouldn't let that deter you...go with which theming or location you'd prefer...all the DVC resorts are great and have their own charm. :flower1:

As for Reserving for Nov. ...as mentioned, F&W fest will be going on and Nov. is a very popular time for DVC in general. What lots of members do is book their home resort at 11mos. out as to have a ressie secured and then if you want to book at a non-home resort try and switch the ressie over at 7mos. that way if the ressie at your non-home resort isn't available, you still have a reservation booked one way or the other.

Welcome home!! :thewave:

Thanks for the info.....when is Hurricane season again? I know it was all over the news but I can't remember when exactly it was.

June 01 through Nov 30. Waaaaaaaay too long! :earseek:

But you usually won't see any hurricanes until August or September and by October they are mostly gone. But not always. In 2001, there were hurricanes in the Caribbean in November because we had a DCL cruise scheduled and it got moved two weeks before we sailed.

We were there last January for the Marathon and it was about 80 degrees on Marathon Sunday. You can get some very nice weather in January (or some cold stuff, too).

We were also there for the marathon. From Friday 1/7- Tues 1/11, the weather was perfect: sunny, shorts and short-sleeves. I was glad the 1/2 marathon was warm enough not to have to wear heavy clothes, but I understand that it was warm for the marathoners. After 1/12, we had lots of rain, and chilly weather.
