WE are DVC members that have stayed at almost all DVC properties, except SS & GFV. We have friends ( who are very picky) and are taking their first trip to Disney with 7 Adults & 1 child. Disney is offering cash prices at OKW or SS for 2 BR villa at a price they are willing to pay. They are asking me which resort would be better. I can't say because I've not stayed at SS. For someone's first trip, with 3 adult couples, 1 25 year old & 1 5 yr old- what would you pick & why?

I agree OKW it's much more laid back than SSR.More activities for children as well.

Having stayed at both OKW and SS over the years, I would agree with OKW as the best choice. A couple of reasons why:

1. The rooms are much larger than any of the other DVC properties and that definitely makes a difference, especially when a number of adults are traveling together.
2. Yes, OKW is the oldest of the DVC properties, but it was recently renovated.
3. I think the food is better at OKW. Olivia's Café is a great spot. I'm not a fan of the food selections available at SS.
4. The main pool is nicer at OKW and the kids like the slide better.

Also, if your friends choose to stay at OKW, I would suggest that they request a room near the hospitality house if they can. Staying at that location gives you more than one option for bus stops. The first and last bus stops are both in that area.

Hope this helps!

Because OKW has larger rooms there is more seating in the living room which you would need with the extra adults.

If no car I'd so SSR. Also for warmer weather and planned pool usage I'd do SSR and ask for the Paddocks. I'd want a 2 BR dedicated unit to get the 2 queens in the second BR.

Another vote for OKW 2 bedroom. It has the sleeper chair in the living room. We had 4 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 17 to 6 in one and never felt cramped.

Like someone else mentioned it has lots of seating in the living room with the sofa that seats 3, loveseat that seats 2, large chair with ottoman and a full sized table that seats 4, not to mention the large patio table that seats 4. Very comfortable and spacious.

OKW would have more room for large group which may be key factor but SSR is nicer IMO - quick service restaurant plus underrated table service restaurant + 2 very nice large pools (plus smaller ones) + close proximity to DTD. Both very relaxing and laid back

Our home resort is OKW and we have stayed there many times and enjoyed our stays. Having said that we are at SSR right now for 2 weeks. We are right across from the Congress Park bus stop and a short walk to the DTD bridge. We are loving it. My husband enjoys walking to DTD every morning for his starbucks. Also we enjoy going back at night. There is also a quiet pool and hot tub behind the Congress park bus stop. Can't go wrong with either.

I've spent one night at OKW and many nights at SSR. Why? After that first night, I was very hesitant to head to OKW again. I didn't think I was going to like SSR...felt I was settling if I had to book there when nothing was available at BWV. BUT, I've come to really like SSR. I have friends that are very 'choosy'....if I was going to recommend either one, it would be SSR. Yes, the villas are larger at OKW, but SSR just looks more impressive. It feels more upscale!
Now, having said all that, I'm headed to OKW for a week in May, with my 21 y/o dd and her best friend!!! Wanted to give OKW another shot.

I personally prefer OKW, it is one of my favorite DVC resorts, and the one that I usually stay at.

I love the layout of OKW. The rooms are more spread out, and seems more secluded. It's always seems so quiet and less hectic than a lot of the other resorts, which is nice to come back to after the hustle and bustle of the parks.

I enjoy the quiet pools at this resort as they aren't usually too busy. My favorite area to stay in is Turtle Pond.

Another plus besides the rooms being larger is there will be 2 queen beds in the studio section of the 2 bedroom unit. If I recall correctly, that section of the Saratoga Springs room will be 1 queen bed and 1 pull out couch (if you get the lock-off villa).

I know there are people who love Saratoga Springs, but it wasn't for me. I did not enjoy the themeing of the resort compared to other DVC resorts.

I would say SSR. For the ages of the people you've listed I would think access
To DTD would better. I also prefer the choice of pools at SSR and the overall feel of the resort.

Having stayed at both resorts, I would recommend OKW. We love the size of the rooms and the ease of getting around to the parks. We've never had a problem getting to DtD, whether on the dedicated bus or enjoying the leisurely cruise up the river to the West Side. We have enjoyed both the quiet pools and the main, depending on where we were staying or even taking a bus up to the HH to get closer to the main pool and Olivia's. All in all, I would not hesitate to book OKW for finicky friends.

OKW agree, great size and very nice and quiet overall. Short boat ride from downtown disney. But SS very nice amenities and with so many adults a VERY short boat or a brief walk from downtown disney which witH so many adults may give some extra options and space
