OKW entrance under construction

If you have been to OKW within the last few weeks, you will have noticed that the entrance way is blocked off and you have to enter on the exit side {left hand side of the guard shack} and exit out the service entrance. There are detour signs at the first main intersection before you get to check in directing you to the service entrance......construction of some sort.

Any idea what they're building? Are they maybe making a 2 lane entrance with a KTTW card reader so guests and busses aren't delayed by new arrivals?

You know, it only looks like they are resurfacing the cobble stones. We have been there several times in the last few weeks, and the thing we saw was a man using some sort of large power tool that he ran back and forth across the road. We asked the guard at the gate, who was not real well versed in the english language and he just said that "they are fixing, fixing for two more weeks" We are going back on Thursday, and I'm going to ask someone at the front desk.

Please note that the gentlemen at the gate did say rather clearly "Welcome home", which always makes us feel good.

Well, the entryway did seem to need resurfacing when we were there in December. At least they might be finished when we check in June 2.

When I was there last week, it looked like they were laying some kind of pipe on the closed side. Not on the road itself, but in the bushes to the side. They were not working on the road itself.

The busses were having some problems negotiating the service entrance/exit (busses did not use the main entrance at all). One day we sat 5 or 10 minutes behind a bus when we were exiting because he could not get through because of a service truck parked out too far.

Maybe they are putting in drainage due to the "lake" that appears when it rains.

They've been working on the fiber optic lines. Our phones were out a day or two during our last stay. (We received a note in our room the day before advising us of this, which was nice, even though we don't use resort phones.)

I wonder if they are up to the entrance area and laying the underground fiber optic wiring???

Hi,
Went to the Members meeting today and the "exit" ( Left) side is closed now. They were taking up the old cobbles and the entance side looks like new now.

As Mick (above) says, the entrance is now open and the normal exit is closed.

They didn't do anything fancy, just refinished the cobblestones and the entrance is now new again. Otherwise it's just the same as you all remember it. No new gates or anything.

The exit side is now being worked on and the 'normal' exit is still closed.

To exit OKW you will still have to follow the detour and exit through the cast member's entrance, which is up off of Miller's road. It's a tight fit through the gate for some of the busses, but no problem for autos.

we arrive on sunday. our friends travelling w/us have never been to OKW. hope is it back to normal. any idea as to when the work will be finished? aaahhh...our $$$ at work for us.

The work they are doing is not particularly unattractive. In other words, there are not a whole lot of huge construction vehicles around. There are cones and traffic barriers, but it's not really all that bad. Since the right hand side is now done, that means it took them about 3 weeks to finish it, so I guess another 3 weeks for the other side to be done. I'm going down tomorrow to take a gander.

Our bus driver said it would be another 2-weeks. That makes sense since the exit side is smaller (less driveway) than the entrance side, they can probably do it in 1-week less than it took to do the entrance side (3-weeks)
