Is there anyone who knows what the original offering price was for OKW back in 1992? What is the historic lowest price? What is the historic highest price? Does anyone have a link to a site that tracks this kind of historic data by resort and by year? Also, what about points rental rates - any full historic data charts on this as well? What was the first issue price on the contract extension for OKW?

I am impressed! I was wondering about the history myself since I have been going to Disney what seems like forever and finally took the plunge into dvc!

I was wondering who member #1 was? Is there someone who can say they were the first person to buy? Were there founding members for OKW?

There is no Founding member type program for OKW. I do remember being there once in the early years, and the front desk had set up a ballons, flowers and such as "Member number one" was expected to check-in later that day. I figured it was a one-time special welcome for the first member. I think AKV was the first resort to have a "Founding Member" program, other than the promo that if you purchased a WDW DVC while a Disneyland you had the opportunity to purchase VCG before they went on sale to the general public. That was also called "Founding Member" but it wasn't anything like the programs for AKV and later BLT.

I've seen Newport, CA mentioned on another post and didn't understand the significance. Was/Is there a DVC connection to Newport, California?

I wonder how many people kick themselves when they see the $50-$60 price points from 10-15 years ago thinking "if only I would have bought back then..."

There were a few DVC resorts announced, but never built. One was Newport Beach. The land was sold and developed into a Marriott timeshare.

Eagle Pines was also announced and had concept artwork, but SSR was built instead. The Eagle Pines location was de-annexed from Disney and is under construction as a Four Seasons.

There was some rumors DVC units in a New York City high rise, and in Colorado, they were also never beyond the rumor stage.

Kicking myself for listening to DH who did not want to buy into DVC years ago, but gonna kick him harder when I show him this thread :rotfl2:

Actually we are one of the first. I don't think we're number 1, but we are within the first 10 I believe. We bought in 1991. We has been waiting for this for awhile, actually we like to think that DVC was our idea!! So you see we really do exist!!

Enjoy The Magic!!

I was a speaker at a conference at the Swan/Dolphin in September 1991 and stayed at the Yacht Club which handled overflow rooms during the conference. Disney was really pushing the "new" Disney Vacation Club concept and offering a preview in one of the hotel conference rooms. I (stupidly) didn't attend, but a co-worker did and was sold and put a deposit down and got his paperwork a few weeks later, a few days before onsite sales started. He has always stated that while he was early joining, he didn't come close to being first as Disney had over 1000 deposits in hand before he gave his deposit on Friday the 13th of September, 1991.

Just to assist in your kicking yourself, remember that members who bought in the first few years received free park passes until 12/31/99!

Can I politely barge in here and ask a burning question? Why are OKW 2057 contracts so difficult to find? I keep looking for a 2057 contract but many of them are for a large amount of points (I am looking for about 150-200 points)!

hard to say. IMO:

1) most OKW owners passed on the extension
2) the fewer owners who extended intended to hold on for a long time
3) little interest in OKW add-ons (all of which have been extended to 2057 since the extension offer) until the recent price drop.

which leaves not many extended contracts available for sale.

All contracts purchased thru DVC will have th extended years. Currently they are available at $90 per point.

There are also some resales available with the extended years, so be sure to review what is available when considering a purchase at OKW. If you purchase a 2042 OKW contract you can still purchase the extension for $25 per point thru DVC - so if you can get a resale for less then $65 you can still come out ahead of a direct purchase.

Good luck! :)

Hello,
We finally took the plunge and decided on AKL at first until I visited this part of the boards and found out that we can get the OKW for $90 pp. We made the change and went with OKW 100 points. The contract ends 2057. A pretty awesome deal, I think. I went through Disney and got 2009 points included. We already have our first DVC trip planned for July. :thumbsup2

PM me if you have any questions ;)

A lot of members just chose not to extend the contract for various reasons -- in our case, we'll be in our 80's and don't even know if we'll still be alive! :teeth:

I think one of the reasons you don;t see a lot of small contracts is early on at okw you had to buy 230 pts to join. It is not like now where you can buy in for a lot less points
