We live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and my 7 year old daughter is in a French Immersion Elementary School. It is very difficult for us to find French speaking toys, French books, etc. What we do find is often very expensive.

Quite by a fluke, I found two FRENCH SPEAKING Shrek Donkey's at our local Target. The box was entirely in English but he speaks French. My daughter is THRILLED and I'M thrilled because it was only $4.98! We really lucked out! I'm searching for more to give as gifts to her school friends or if I'm lucky as birthday take-home gifts at my daughter's next birthday party.

Anyway, I'm posting in hopes that someone on this board might be able to help us locate affordable items in French that would be helpful to my daughter. Things like Valentine's in French, kids birthday cards in French, toys that speak French, French Leappad/Leapster cartridges, etc. Any ideas, advice or connections would be greatly appreciated. :worship:

Thanks so much for your help!

I saw a whole wall of French toys at the Mattell outlet in Mississauga, Ontario and it was all very resonable so perhaps if you called Mattell here and explained they could hook you up. I also know that a store called Mastermind (www.mastermind.ca) have some french stuff. Also try ebay, you never know! I live in an area that is primarily english so French toys are hard to come by. Good Luck!

I was also going to suggest mastermind.ca as I know they ship to the U.S. I would call their customer service line directly for the info -- because they are a smaller Canadian company, a lot of their stock is depleted from Christmas. The customer service agents could give you a better feel of what will be available and how much it would cost to ship down to you.

I would also try the American website amazon.com. You would be surprised the extend of toys they carry ... we can't ship here though!

Here is the website of a popular French bookstore in Toronto that has lots of stuff including computer programs and movies. Email them as to what you are looking for and they will ship it to you.

For books and I guess movies, computer games etc. - try www.Amazon.ca - not the greatest selection but not too bad and they will ship to the US (none of the other Canadian companies I checked would).

I must comment that even here in a French community good french Valentines can be a challenge to find (and they never go on sale!). Many of the kids in my children's french school just exchange english ones because they are cheap and plentiful. I always make the effort to find and send french ones though and I would be happy to mail you some though if you told me how many you wanted and wanted to trust me with your address.

Leapfrog makes also a lot of their toys for Canada that are in English and French. Check them out too. They actually have a pretty good customer service department and perhaps they can get them shipped to you.

Hey Sarah - thanks so much for coming over to the Canadian board ;) I noticed the search of other Targets was not proving too successful...

If you can PM me when time permits, I'd like to run a couple items by you. Happy to pass them along, if they suit your needs!

I'm from and live in Quebec so I could definitely hook you up. Do you like ebay? If there is something specific that you wanted I could get it for you and set up a post so you could buy it from me on ebay? Just a suggestion, no obligation. I used to work at toys r us and I know that they have great leap frog stuff in French. At one point they also sold french "speaking" barbies and other dolls. That's the Canadian Toys R Us site that sells French toys. Don't know if they ship to the US though. Hope that helps :)

DS attends a French school and we always get the French version of hte Scholastic book order. There are some really good books, games and toys available. I took a quick look and could not see whether they can ship to the US or not, but here is the website incase you are interested. Bonne chance!

We have always got great stuff from Scholars Choice. Just type in French in the search engine and it brings tons of stuff. P.S. We recently had a job opportunity in Duncan OK!!!!! Small world eh!
