Hey -- Thanks for the "Welcomes".

Yeah, I have a B.S. in math. I have taught school for about 10 or 11 years, but am taking this year off.

Let me know about that Algebra.

Good for you!! ;) Taking a year off can do wonders! I may take you up on that offer of Algebra. Yikes! Then another Algebra course, then Trig. I am NOT a math person!!!!!! :earseek:  Give me a zillion science courses, but math just kills me! :earseek:

Hi all,
Sounds like everyone has been busy while I've been "away." I'm out on the W. Coast with family and intermitted web access.

Algebra. <shiver> I spent *way* too long today trying to remember fragments of that to help my nephew with his homework. It came back eventually, but those pathways are really rusty.

Went to a singles thing on Christmas Eve. It wasn't horrible. I count that as progress...

Kim

Math...YUCK!!! No offense mathboy. I hated math, definitely my least favorite of subjects. No way I would have taken more than the necessary requirements for my degree!!! Isn't FLminnie a math teacher, or at least she wanted to be a math teacher, she may have been teaching something else right now....

Kim- nice to see you "around!"

Oh! So sorry, Kim!! Too many of them are horrible. We should get QUADRUPLE credit for each one. ;)

Progress!?! I call it down right courageous! Don't know that I could ever go. Good for you!

Mathboy, what are you doing with your year off? Can't imagine being able to take a year off....but then parenting isn't something you take a vacation from very easily, is it?

I home school my 4 dd's and we (finally) found the most wonderful math teacher! He's retired from teaching high school math and visits with us once a week. He doesn't charge us a thing, just enjoys our family. My girls have progressed tremendously in their math abilities with his guidance. He's a wonder! (More like a God send! :sunny: ) Heck, even I'm learning some of that foreign math language!

I agree with Vicki...that is pretty courageous. I haven't been to one yet and don't plan on it. Although I did belong to the single parents' group at my church when that was around. It's died out. :( That was a great group! We got together a lot with each other and the kids...the park, skating, etc. It was a lot of fun without the pressure. These people were in the same boat as me! ;)

I don't feel like it's particularly courageous. Maybe that's just me. What I really meant by progress, though was that this thing wasn't horrible and the first one I went to was. 80% women, most everybody already knew each other, and gosh, they were *really* friendly and welcoming to the one new *guy.* This was a bigger, more diverse crowd, which was nice.

Not my preferred method of meeting people, but other methods don't seem to be working, so...

PW .. I am glad you had fun in VA. Williamsburg is absolutely beautiful isn't it! I know you'd rather not be home, but I am glad you made it there safe.

Mathboy .. welcome. My cousin just got his Masters in Math. He's teaching school in the NY school system.

Kim .. TONS of QUDOS for you. I have not been able to go to a singles thing. I just feel so.. I don't know. .on the spot. Sorry it did not go well.

Suz .. Hope the cruise is still fun. The weather must be beautiful.

Okay... That is all I can remember. LOL

About comments. the worst is at weddings. My cousin is getting married in July. We don't see the entire family often so this will be a treat. I am sure I will get TONS of comments. Weddings are OH SO FUN! NOT! LOL

New Years Eve will be spent painting my family room. Wee FUN! I Know.. I walk on the wild side

Again, I am glad this thread exsists. Its nice to talk to other singles and other single parents. Almost all my friends are married or very involved.

That's good! What type of organization was it sponsored by?

Thank you, Deedee! :) I have a childhood friend from when I was little and lived in NJ who has lived in Williamsburg her entire adult life! I can finally see the attraction!!! I should write her parents a note. I have no clue what her married name is. It would be great to see her eventually. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I start 3 classes at college on January 6. They end on May 6. That means another 4 months here. Do I want to be here that long? NO! I want to be gone before then! What time period is realistic? Sheesh! Sometimes having no close (family) support REALLY stinks!!!!  :earseek: :earseek:

New Year's Eve? I didn't even realize that it occurs tomorrow until Disney845 told me last night. LOL! Gee...guess I'm not doing anything interesting. :(

Drove to Orlando today to pay the one and only ticket (of any type) I have ever received in my life. It was a stupid $35 parking ticket from my school campus!! GRRRRR!!!!! Also went to the Fashion SQ. mall while I was over there with a friend...tried on some cute things, looking for a smashing outfit for tomorrow night...of course I don't even have plans, ;) but who knows...I will be seeing work guy tomorrow, and some of my friends have suggested hinting to see if he has plans. Of course that puts me in the position of having to come up with something interesting to do if I suggest we "get together and do something." No one I know is doing anything interesting, no parties, no clubs, nothing....I am at a loss! So needless to say I didn't buy any of the cute outfits I tried on, although this one really cute pink and black satiny spaghetti strap top was calling to me...my friend said I should get it, but the pants I wanted to go with it (black and made of the same shiny fabric as the black accents on the pink top) there was only one pair in my size left and it had a broken zipper! :( Also I decided that I didn't need to spend the outrageous "small fortune" they would have cost me!!

Gee...guess I'm not doing anything interesting.
Well, you could come to the Chicago area and help me get my laundry done! :earseek: But you probably have your own mound to deal with after your lovely trip.

PW, don't sweat the next few months. No big decisions yet...these three college classes will breeze by and you'll be glad to have them done with! I'll remind you of all this when we're cheering you on for your final exams!

Hey PW! It is so nice to "see" you! That is a beautiful pic of you and your son. It may not be what you want to hear, but I'm with h_o_p - don't rush any major life decisions. Is there more in Virginia than just heart-trob?

TB,"J-Ball," the Christmas Eve singles thing, was co-sponsored by a couple of the JCCs and other such organizations, I don't remember exactly. There were actually two, focused by age, which was helpful. I'm told that last year the women who weren't in their 20s and 30s felt a bit overlooked. This year the younger group had their own event. (although no one was checking ages at the door. :-} )

PW, if you're really set on heading north, having a few months to do it in an organized fashion is really much less stressful. I once moved across the country on two month's notice and it would have been much easier to have more time! You don't realize how many loose ends there are to tie up until you start doing it!

Happy NY, all.

That sounds like fun! JCC - Jewish Community Center? I live near a JCC and they seem to have the coolest events. I've never actually gone to anything though. Are non-Jewish people welcomed?

Laundry! :earseek: You better believe it! However, my hotel did have a washer and dryer to use...which I did. But when I pulled the clothes out of the suitcase, they just didn't smell the same. :earseek: Laundry AGAIN! True...not an urgent reason to go at the present time. That's just me...I do things quickly! If I have to stop and think too much, it's not for me. I've learned to go with my gut instinct. I'm just afraid that if I wait too long, I'll get lazy about the decision to go. It's easier to stay put...which is why I'm here 15 years. I'd like to have a moving party! :teeth: Geeeeezzz...the things I'll resort to in this horrible singleness...again!

Thanks, TigerBear! :) Yes, my sister lives in Northern VA. Being within driving distance of her would be nice! :)

That's for sure...so many loose ends! The last time I moved, it took 9 months for my townhouse to sell. That was the hold up then. I just crack up when I get all the mail from the realtors looking for people in the neighborhood to list with them! I even had one of them call me! LOL! He lives in the back of our development. It's sooooooooooooooooooo tempting!
