Okay...I've Called the Late Night DISers, Now I'm Calling the Single DISers (Part 2)

It's been consistently windy today, but we've had a few showers. Nothing big yet. The worst will come tomorrow when Frances starts moving across the state.

I hope everyone is safe and staying dry! :grouphug:

I got my carpet replaced on Friday so now my dogs are only allowed in the kitchen. They are not happy campers. Guess who is sleeping in the kitchen with them? ;) Hopefully, my house will be on the market within the next week.

I have found a total of four apartments in the area that will take two big dogs. The two I like are both older complexes but are well maintained. One has a fenced-in patio and is on the bayou which would be great for walking. The other has a small, fenced-in dog park. I'm trying to decide which of the two my babies would like more. This is going to be such a big adjustment for them.

CM, how is your job going? Sandy, any news on the job front?

Wow, TigerBear! Now that's a mom that loves her pups...sleeping in the kitchen with them!! :) <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_25.gif' alt='Frisbee' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_102.gif' alt='Puppies' border=0></a>

Job search? I'm searching, no calls yet. Just applied for a job at Social Services on Thursday. The opening "closed" on Friday. Crossing my fingers. This one is literally a 12 minute drive from my house and is a state job! Crossing fingers here. I called the city on the opening there. They're still reviewing, it's not filled yet...so that's good news. Sheesh! Something better work out soon!!! :scared1: Thanks for asking!!

P.S. On Thursday morning I dropped my app off at Social Services because I sure didn't think it would get there on time the next day if it was mailed. On the drive home I thought...Social Services...I'm sure it's 99.9% females if not 100% working there. I need a place with males! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_6.gif' alt='Brows' border=0></a> But I did notice the sheriff's office downstairs! :Pinkbounc <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_6.gif' alt='Brows' border=0></a>

PSS or is it PPS...We're getting squalls of rain, and here's another one!

Very cute smilies PW! Where do you find all of them?

My mom worked for the state health department as an administrative assistant - she is retired now. In many ways it was a good job: good benefits, 8 to 5 (she occassionally did some work at night but not too often). She was absolutely adored by her bosses - didn't fully understand why until I started working myself. Administrative support can really make or break an office. Crossing my fingers and toes for the SS job - the sheriff's department nearby could be a real plus! :p

Legs, please check in with us whenever you get a chance.

Oh, the smilies come from Smiley Central. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_106.gif' alt='Roll Over' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_1_133.gif' alt='Dog Munching' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_105.gif' alt='Walking The Dog Male' border=0></a> They have the cutest things there. :)

Your mom must have had good bosses. That helps a LOT! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I prefer males to females. MUCH easier to work for!! ;) Thanks for the crossed fingers and toes. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_29_107v.gif' alt='My Fingers Are Crossed' border=0></a> They don't have any crossed toes. LOL!

I PM'd Legs a couple days ago. No response yet. :( Hope the rest of our FL DISers check in here...Suzanne, Barry, Eric, and Karen.

I'm fine. Lots of wind and rain, but we made out just fine. We didn't even lose electricity. It just went on forever. Still getting some rain from the darn thing. Now Ivan is suppose to visit next weekend. When am I moving? I'm ready to move out of this state NOW!!!!! DD doesn't have school and the kids don't have school, but I need to go in. So taking DD with me. Hopefully won't work a full day. Need to get my classroom back in order again.

Glad you didn't have any problems, Suzanne. :) I have to laugh about moving out of state. I'm sure a LOT of Floridians feel like that right now. Hugs to all of them! Believe me...quite frequently what entered my mind was...thank goodness I'm not there! I think the entire thing would have overwhelmed me. And the guy that bought my home is probably thinking...why did I buy this?! Just kidding. He's been down there many years and owns a liquor store. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...maybe he had increased business!

At least you can take DD to work with you. That's a real plus! Hope school is back to normal soon for you!!

I survived the wind and rain this weekend. There's flooding in low lined areas, but nothing major. Now Ivan is coming. I've lived in Florida for nearly all my life and I've never seen a hurricane season this active. I've seen hurricanes do strange things, but never 2 or 3 in a row.

Hi, Barry! :wave2:

Glad you didn't have anything major. Yes, this hurricane season is something else!! :(

I survived Frances ... discovered a small leak coming from a bad seal on one of my windows, so now I have to fight the management company, because they say it's not their fault. (excuse me? Not your fault? Then exactly who IS responsible for caulking the windows?)

Animal Kingdom was closed today, partially for cleanup, partially because of staffing issues.

I reported to work, was told I wasn't needed, and went home. After lunch, I spent the day in a very un-crowded Epcot ... walked onto Spaceship Earth, walked onto Test Track, walked onto the Energy Adventure, wandered around for a bit, went to Canada, listened to Off Kilter, watched the 360 movie, then wandered over to the international gateway entrance/exit, talked briefly with the CMs (who were all CPs as well), went and got dinner, came back for illuminations, and then gave my new friends a ride home.

Haven't heard from Karen in a few days ... I know she was having computer problems, and I really should call and offer to help fix them.

Glad you're okay, Eric. Sorry to hear about the leaking window. Ugh! Caulking? Windows are caulked? I wouldn't have guessed that. I know my shower is caulked...and that one isn't so good! :(

Hope Karen's doing okay.

Anyone have a hug to spare? Ack! This past week has been difficult. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_17v.gif' alt='Tears' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_3.gif' alt='Blowing Nose' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_8.gif' alt='Walking Home Crying' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_7.gif' alt='Crying Into Tissue' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_8.gif' alt='Walking Home Crying' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_9.gif' alt='Sobbing' border=0></a>

Hi everyone! Alive and well here just overwhelmed! I am so glad to hear that everyone in FL is safe and sound. I have always wanted to move to FL but I not so sure anymore.

I have been so busy. I love my new job! I couldn't have asked for a better place to work...the people are all great (can you believe it? Usually there is at least one person you don't really get along with), I have my own office...not a cubicle an actual office with a door! and I can take the light rail and not have to drive so I can drink my coffee and read a good book...

I have been painting my new patio home. In fact spent all Labor Day weekend painting...but it is fun! I have always been a white wall person but have decided to be daring and add color...lots of color! I am having a pro. painter paint the living room because it has vaulted ceilings and I am not really one to want to climb that high....he will be done Friday and then I'll finish what I am painting...have the carpets cleaned and start moving boxes.

TB-Seems we are changing places...I am moving from an apartment into a home and you are moving into one, if I understood what I was reading...I only had time to skim over the posts.

Legs and FM and everyone else I am so glad you all made it through the last hurricane. My mom's name is Frances and one of her friends who lives in Florida call and asked what had made her so angry....

PW-Thanks so much for the PM....it was nice of you to think of me....sorry things have not been so happy for you...just when you least expect it something will come up....I am thinking good thoughts for you and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Take care everyone!

Vicki

Thanks, Vicki! I'm feeling better. :)

Have fun painting the house! That's one job I've never wanted to tackle. I give our DIS painters a lot of credit. Glad you like your job, too! :teeth:

Glad things are going well CM!

Has anyone heard from Legs? I'm wondering if she is without power.

My house is officially on the market! If you have any spare good thoughts, I'll gladly take them. The poor babies have to stay outside now every time I leave. :(

No, haven't heard from Legs. I was thinking the same thing before about the power being out.

Congrats on listing your house, Tiger Bear! Good luck!! I hope you get a quick sale and the price you're looking for.

Poor pups!! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_102.gif' alt='Puppies' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_102.gif' alt='Puppies' border=0></a>

Finally I'm back! And we are ok! But I have to say......that whole hurricane experience sucked!!!

I lost power 9:30am Sat. morning 9/4. Still had over 12 hrs. to go before Francis made an appearance. FLM- After I lost power, I called the cell # you gave me previously and left a message that I was ok. Not sure if you got it though.
This storm was so slow. It was terrible how long it took for it to go through. On Sat. night, dd slept in the bathtub of the inner bathroom and I slept on the bathroom floor.

The winds woke me about 1:00am. I thought part of the house was going to blow away. The winds were so intense! That's about the time the hurricane arrived in our area. Water started dripping down from the exhaust fan so I moved out to the hallway. DD slept through it all. Winds were the worst out of the west which was against the front door, garage door and two large windows. I had the car in the garage backed up so it was pressing against the garage door to support it. Everything held thank goodness.

When it was daylight, I could see my neighbors across the street. Their huge queen palm fell. Neighbors on either side have mahogany trees- many large broken branches. I know for sure that when I go around to my backyard, that my huge olive tree will be destroyed (remember the one I was trying to get trimmed?). It was still standing there with all the branches intact!!!! My roof lost a bunch of shingles and some vent covers. Because those covers blew off, it left an opening where the roof comes to a point and water got in. Same thing happened to my neighbor but she has a ton of water damage.

Afterwards....there is no where to go. No one has power. No stores or restaurants are open. It's not safe to drive anywhere. No traffic lights are working. Roads are blocked by debris. Your house and cell phones don't work. No newspaper. And you realize that whatever you have in your house right then for food and water is what you are going to survive on for who knows how long. Luckily I had enough water and food. On Sunday, 3 FPL trucks rolled down my street. My neighbors 2 doors down had power that night. But I had to wait for 2 more nights. It was so hot in the house I couldn't stand it any more. I couldn't sleep at night. I had to throw out a refrigerator and freezer full of food.

Thank goodness the power came back on late Tues. Then on Wed. I went back to work. Kids don't have school until Mon. A very large number of traffic lights are still out. Driving around is very hazardous because of that. And still a large number of people in the county are without power. Mounds of debris are still waiting to be picked up. And then there is Ivan. Yikes! People here have not removed the boards from their windows because of this next hurricane. If it comes here as a strong hurricane, I will leave and fly to my uncle's in Illinois. I do not want to go through anything stronger than Francis.

My family in South Brevard is ok- Mom just got power late last night and my sister still doesn't have power.

I put my computer back together late last night but couldn't get online because of a minor problem that I fixed today.

After going through a hurricane by myself, I feel like I can do anything now!!!

What a scary experience! You have no idea how happy I am to hear you and your dd are safe. It sounds like the experience has shown you just how strong a person you are! :D

Oh my gosh, Legs! That's something else!! I'm so glad you and your dd are okay. That had to be terrifying at the time it was happening. Glad your mom and sister are okay also. You certainly are a strong person for handling that. I kept thinking how lucky I was to move when I did! The thought of that hurricane would have overwhelmed me, but of course you do what you have to do. Ugh! I'm hoping Ivan goes west without hitting land...just keep going in the gulf. So glad to hear from you, Legs!! :)
