Okay after much deliberation and some arguing w/ the hubby I made reservations for 7 nites at the Dolphin...I'm a little nervous as we have only stayed at the Disney resorts but w/ the government discounts...it was too good to pass up...hope we made the right decision!! It seems that is it unless a good AP rate comes out for August at the BC/YC...

I just got back last week from our 1st stay at the Dolphin and we LOVED IT! We used the nurse discount and had a room on the east side on the 7th floor with a balcony and a limited view of MGM. The pool is wonderful and the location is great. If you have children they should be very comfortable there ours were.

Our first stay at the Dolphin was July 02 - teacher's rate. I was nervous just as you were since we had only stayed at Disney resorts. We LOVED our Dolphin stay! We returned this past July and stayed at the Swan - LOVED it there, too! I am sold on the S/D resorts. :hyper:

I've stayed at the Swan twice and loved it. It's not the same warm, Disney atmosphere as Disney's own resorts, but it's very nice, with excellant pools and amenities and a fantastic location. I'm going to WDW in a week, and have two nights booked at the Dolphin.

YOU WILL HATE IT!

(ok - now that everyone has glanced at that and moved on, I can tell you that you will really LOVE it, but we don't want the secret to get out!!! Shhhhhhh!!!!;) ;) ;) )

Thanks for the words of encouragement...it makes me feel better about our decision. I had a hard time picking between S/D. Those of you who have stayed both...which do you like better. The idea of bigger beds and 2 sinks is very appealing...

I like the atmosphere and the amenities at the Dolphin a little better, but they are both very nice. The beds at the Dolphin are just a little smaller than the queen beds at the Swan. We didn't notice the difference. Our kids are both toddlers, so we didn't need the 2nd sink, but if that's very important you might like the Swan better. Definitely get a renovated room at the Dolphin. If you can't, try the Swan.

From what I have read the Dolphin renovations should be completed in July and we are arriving in August so we 'should' be okay. Maybe I should have added that to my reservation just in case. There is 3 of...w/ DD7. She usually sleeps w/ me and DH gets the bed to himself while we are away! I'd like the extra sink for him...he is a slob! lol.... From what I've read I get the impression the view from the Dolphin is nicer too....

I'm planning on staying at the Dolphin in January...how can I know in advance if I'm getting a renovated room?

had second thoughts about staying at the Dolphin(even with the Teacher discount) as we were afraid we would miss that "Disney Feeling". Boy were we wrong! The Dolphin staff was even more friendly and helpful that past Disney resort CMs. The window displays for the Dolphin's shops all displayed Disney characters so you still got to see Mickey, if you wanted (even more than at the AKL). We loved our room (renovated & with a balcony) and view (Epcot!). We have told all of our friends and have some down there right now.

Call now and ask them to mark your reservations for a requested renovated room. You can also ask at check-in to be sure.

Also, if you have not already joined Starwood Preferred Guests, do so as it may work out for an upgrade for you.

Enjoy!
