We have a lot of new faces around here lately! I love it! Why don't you guys tell us a little about yourselves?

Where are you from? What is your favorite character? How did you get obsessed..err.. addicted to collecting? Married? Kids?

Info people.. we want info!

and

Welcome to our little family! :)

I'm still pretty new to this board so I guess I will start. I am a professor at a major midwestern university, and I am a Disney freak. I just started collecting and trading Disney pins during our last trip in December/January. I brought some DS pins down with me, won a lanyard and pins at WWTBAM, and started trading with CM's and got hooked. For the most part, I try to collect pins that have some kind of a sentimental meaning to me--events I was at, favorite rides, rides that remind me of members of my family (one of my last memories of my late grandmother is going on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at DL with her in about 1967--so I bought the retro pin honoring the ride). Otherwise, I collect things I like: Sorcerer Mickey, Fantasmic, Tower of Terror, DVC, Pirates of the Caribbean. Thanks for all the help so far. I have met a few of you at pin meets already in the Chicago area. Hope to meet more of you as time passes. I have a DW (December99 on the boards) and a DSD who is 12 and also likes collecting and trading Disney pins.

and I am a pin-o-holic.

My story is to blame the CT Contingent for my recent obsession with pin collecting. No, really, it kinda started on our trip to WDW in 11/2000. I purchased a few pins for my daughter at the time as souvenirs, not knowing what I was getting into or setting myself up for, I would say about 15. I had originally framed them, thinking I would collect pins from the 4 parks surrounding a picture of our family visiting that park, harmless. I had 4 frames on the wall with 3 or so pins in each frame. I would buy pins each time we visited. Then I had an idea, I would only purchased framed pin sets, that would be harmless too, and only anniversary ones at that. 12 sets later, and 19 snow globes (another habit I picked up along the way) I saw a post while passing through the collector’s board that read a meet was happening at our local mall. I thought it would nice to meet other DIS'ers. I told my wife about it and off we went. We met Cynthia and Dom...Peggie and Leslie, I couldn't believe the amount of pins they each had. I told my wife, I would never be like THOSE people. That's crazy. All the money they are spending on pins. Then a few of the folks had extra pins, from recent trips to WDW, for sale...WOW, some of those would be good for my empty frames I said. Still harmless, right? eBay, what's this? I can by pins here too? Well just one won't hurt....The rest is history. I have almost 200 pins, still relatively small compared to many of your collections but that was my beginning, 3 months ago. I am now one of THOSE people.

My name is Mario and I have been married to my wife Annette for 15 years this October. We have one daughter, my pride and joy, Nicole. I work as a transportation planner for a metropolitan planning organization in Connecticut. I cannot get enough of anything and everything Disney. We made our first visit to WDW in 1998 and we became hooked at that time. I never had visited WDW as a child. As I mentioned earlier, I collect framed sets as well as snow globes and now pins. I collect Walt and movie poster pins, and a few mystery pins too. You can check out my website for pins and globes at EPSON PHOTO CENTER and type dolphin01@snet.net in the VISIT ALBUMS section. You can see pictures of my daughter at NICOLE'S SITE and I also have a Coronado Springs Resort page listed there at the bottom. I am listed as buzz2001 under pinpics if anyone has a possible trade to make.

Out of all the boards I visit on DIS, the collectors board seems to me to be the closest group of them all, willing to help out each other all the time. I'm glad to be a part of it now that Michael has officially given me my coat of arms.

Thanks everyone!

ps - thanks to one of Laureen's other threads, I forgot I also collect the Disney x-mas ornaments. The one's in the leather-bound look-a-like book. I DO need help!

Hi guys! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Wow.. Doctor P! I never knew that December99 was your wife! I hang out a little bit on the Community Board but never put two and two together. She's the one that has all the Mickey Antenna toppers.. isn't she? Tell her to drop by here and say hi to us! (Tell her there is more than one CB ya know! ;) )

Mario - great story on how you got into our hobby! Way to go CT Contingent.. you are doing a great job brainwashing.. errr.. recruiting.. new members ;) I think you hit the nail right on the head Mario.. the Collectors Board is a great place because of our closeness. We are definitely a family (With a few skeletons in the closet and more than one weird uncle we don't always claim :D)

I'm glad that both of you guys have joined us here :)

Who's next?? Come on ya'll.. I see you out there!! Join us!

I just recently aquired my addict...um, hobby. We had a trip to DisneyWorld planned for early March (yes, as in last month!) and I thought it would be nice to get a few pins to trade with the CMs. Well, before I knew it, my son, my daughter and I were all wearing lanyards around the park loaded with pins! Then my son and I went to the Contemporary and the Polynesian. At Epcot, we spent more time under the hat than on the rides! Then, I bought a small backpack. Then I bought another bag. Now, I have a larger bag on backorder.

My husband (who I have been married to for 13 years) used to make fun of me for spending so much time on www.tug2.net , which is a timesharing site. I moderate one of the boards there. Now he thinks I spend too much time on Dispins! He thought the whole hobby was crazy...until he found out they make a Jessica Rabbit pin! Now he keeps asking me if I've found one for him yet. I think I'll just string him along for awhile....

Most of you know about my family already, but you can find us pictured at www.picturetrail.com by putting 3kids4me under the album name. We have three beautiful children ages 10, 7 and 3. My seven year old has late-stage Lyme disease which has been a struggle for all of us, but the pins are actually magical for her. She loves to look at them and touch them, and they really helped when she got her bandage changed on her IV a few days ago.

I have an MBA and worked as a marketing director in brand management for 13 years (6 at Nabisco...think free cookies!). When Rachel got very sick last June I took family leave, and then did not go back. Someone needed to be here to administer her IV medication after school and frankly, she needed me too (all the kids did). Our income was cut in half but I have not regretted it for one moment. My husband works for a big bank in New York City, mainly on acquisitions. We met in business school.

Our trip to Disney was planned and paid for while I was still working, but we still hope to get back there soon; it was a wonderful trip for us! I used to think vacations were not as important as, say, having a new couch. But they have made so many wonderful memories for us...and who is going to remember the couch?

I jus posted on this board beginning of this week when someone told me it was not jsut for pin collectors. I currently have 600-700 Eeyores and so I guess that qualifies me as a collector :) (fanatic more like it)

I had 3 measly eeyore pins and 2 buttons for the 2 pooh movies. Well after being on this board just 3 short days I have gone and bought 7 new eeyore pins from ebay. At least they are small so BF hopefully wont notice them lost among the other eeyores.:D

Other than spending time on these boards and shopping for eeyore's, I run a small computer service company helping small & medium sized businesses with there IT needs. A far cry from my degree from Sarah Lawrence in theater, but hey, I needed something that can pay me enough to keep up my Eeyore addiction :D

Me Mermie.
Me addicted.
Me collect Ariel, Cindy, and Tigger pins.
Me live with crazy people like Yardhaunter and Ismetoo.
Me related to Raul (And his MUCH better half).
Me desprately want to move to Canada.

Literally just got home from WDW ... DH, DD and self now hooked on pin trading, over 20 a piece ... DH is specializing in villains ... DD just wants it all ... we're all working on the lanyard series pins, have some good ones. Oh yeah, DH and I both made it into the millionaire hotseat, both have the 32,000 10 pin collection now.

Guess we'll be going to DL a lot now to do more trading.:D

My name is Holly and I got into pin trading/collecting in October when we were in WDW. DH (Goofys on the boards) and I swore we would never get into it or enjoy it. BUt saw a couple cute pins so we got the lanyard and 4 pin starter set. I don't know how many pins we have currently but we love it!!!!! I am a CAse Manager/Outreach worker for a mental Healthe Clinic for the homeless in Pittsburgh. WE collect anything Goofy or Jiminy Cricket. We LOVE Disney!!

Hello, my name is Arlene, and I am a lurker! I visit these boards a couple of times a day, but I really don't say much, just read. I am a collector of everything Disney, favorite is Mickey. When at WDW I always buy a dated ornament, (or two) coffee mug, magnet, Holiday MM & MN beanies, sweat shirt, tee shirt, poster, key chain, & beach towel. I was really in trouble this year because not only did WDW have all of the above mentioned items for the 100 Years of Magic, but they also had 2002 "Ears to You" items. Can we say Ship it please!!! I also collect figurines, mostly the inexpensive ones. I do have some Lenox pieces, I discovered Lenox online, boy am I in trouble. I join the WDCC club every year and get a really nice classic piece for $50.00. I have about 30 snowglobes. I had to start being really selective with these, I am running out of room. I also collect mini snowglobes. I have quite a few from the parks and resorts. My son got me hooked on the pressed pennies & quarters. And last but not least, Pins. I have over 100 pins, but I mainly collect Holiday LE.
At Christmas my house is decorated almost all Disney. I do put my Manger out, and I do like Snowman, but other than that it is all Disney.
My DH thinks I have lost my mind, he just doesn't understand. I have loved Disney since I was a child. My DS is 18, when he was a baby I had his room decorated with Mickey and Donald.
I have to say, I really enjoy reading this board. Everyone seems so nice.:earsgirl:

Welcome to the boards everyone...

Hi, my name is Barbara. I post some on the camping board. I love all things Disney, and I especially love Grumpy and Fort Wilderness things. I got into pins by trading at DW, and I am ready to do some more trading in

36 days!!!

Hi...my name is Donna. I'm not new....I've posted on this and other boards for a while now, but have never really formally introduced myself. Besides my family, DH and 13 year old DS, Disney is the most important thing in my life. We started going to WDW 6 years ago with my son, after not having been there for about 10 years. It was the most magical experience I've ever had in my life....seeing everything I loved through the eyes of a 6 year old who was experiencing Disney for the first time. This trip became the first of my constant "arranging" to vacation at WDW at least once every year. I started pin collecting about three years ago. I'm very proud of my collection that I love so much. I especially seek the villain pins, Mickey, cast member, haunted mansion, and anything else that catches my eye. I don't trade too much because I can't part with my own pins. I have traded with cast members, and had lots of fun trading with a great Japanese lady when I was on line at Mickey's Trade Parade at MGM. I would have to say that my favorite pins have been purchased off of e**y. Love my Test Track Mickey cast member pin, my haunted mansion DL cast member pin, and some of the great Japanese villain ones that I bought.

My favorite characters are Mickey, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and Princess Aurora. If you are ever at WDW and you see a tall blond bribing her 13 year old to still take character pictures, even though he feels that he is a little too old, it is me. No seriously, I stopped doing that this year during Spring Break, when I saw how uncomfortable he felt waiting on line with the little girls to get a picture with Belle. Everybody grows up someday...and I guess that I will have to accept this with him. I was also the nut at the Wide World of Sports during Atlanta Braves Spring Training that waited hour after hour with the other nuts to get Braves autographs, but I would walk through fire for my son. By the way, we got GREG MADDUX's autograph and this is a super tough acquisition. Some fans have been trying for over 7 years without any luck because he does not like to sign much. I told Leo Mazzoni that my son would be pitching for his Braves someday....so everyone should keep their eye open for him. By the way, baseball is another major part of my life. My son plays on multiple teams including a travelling all-star team. He played at Cooperstown last year, and pitched the only two games that our team won, and one of them was a 1 hitter. Chipper Jones and Greg Maddux are baseball deities in our house...but we also love our NY Yankess...especially Derek Jeter.

My DH and I are IT people...he specializes in Networking...and I work in a local office so that my son can still be my #1 priority. Our favorite hotel is the BWI with a view of Epcot, favorite park is MGM, and we will be going to DL this August, starting off in San Francisco, going to Pac Bell Park to see Barry Bonds, then driving to Anaheim after 4 days in SF, and going to DL for a few days, then Universal Studios, Dodger Stadium to see our Braves play the Dodgers, and also to Oakland to see the A's play.

PS: I know that my story is long.....but my niece had a baby girl on Saturday...this would have been my brother in law's first grand daughter. He is the one that tragically passed away last Memorial Day from cancer. I know that the baby will be blessed...a new Disney Princess that has been born. And one of the best omens is that the baby's nurse came into her room with a Disney pin lanyard on....and I immediately started talking Disney pin trading with her. Good sign huh...a pin trading nurse to welcome you into the world.

I really enjoy everyone here....feel that I know most of you and would be honored if you could consider me as one of your many friends!!!!

Donna

I have enjoyed all these stories so much! I love hearing about the REAL people who make up our boards... not just knowing them by their fav character or board name! Thank you all so much for sharing!

Hello,
In case you haven't figured it out from my screen ID, My name is Bubba and I'm from Montana. I'm an obsessed collector of all things Pointy-Backed. My co-dependent's name is "Denice with a C" and I have 2 college aged survivors. I've done some posting on the DVC board but just lurked here. We joined the DVC mostly so I could visit my deceased parents who now live in the haunted mansion and because "Denice with a C" really believes that we are visiting other countries whenever we walk around the world showcase.

But seriously folks, I started collecting last October on our last trip to WDW. We visited the Grand Floridian to see how the other half vacations. When we walked into one of the shops I made a decision that I had been thinking about for awhile. I was going to start a pin collection. So I says to "Denice with a C", Hey "Denice with a C", I'm going to start a pin collection. I bought about 6 pins there and the rest of the vacation was spent at pin booths. When we went to the Catholic mass at the Polynesian, I was disappointed that they didn't have any pins. Ya know, something Like "I received communion with Donald Duck".

Well here it is 6 months and about 250 pins later. "Denice with a C" is happy that my alcohol consumption has subsided but only because I spend all our money on pins instead. My prized possession so far? The 10 pin, LE-100, Copper Walt quote pins from Disney auctions that set me back about $250, or as "Denice with a C" calls them, the metal things. I have just about all of the golf-themed pins, the 9 pin countdown set, several other complete sets, most of the cast atlas set and an album full of WDW Rides/Attraction pins. My biggest "want" right now is the 10th in the Disney Milestone (gallery store) set It's the Disneyland one and my address is....... I never see it on E-Bay even though all the others in the set frequently appear.

So far, I haven't done any trading but maybe on my next WDW trip, I'll get a lanyard and stand on a Main St. USA street corner with a tin cup. Well "Denice with a C" is calling me to dinner. Even though it's just a tuna casserole, I imagine myself at Chef Mickey's (with the help of 1 my addictions). See you at the next meeting...uh pin meet that is.

RONfromRI

PS hope I didn't offend anyone. Sometimes I get too creative.

I think that some of the "oldbees" should post here too, since we "newerbees" don't know your stories either...lol!!

Hi there

My name is Karen and I live in the UK (guess you could have figured that much from my username!).

I started collecting pins on a trip to WDW back in 2000 but didn't get much chance to buy pins since then until DLP started trading. I visit DLP once a year at least and often order pins from there via mail order.

I have recently been trading a bit on Pinpics (under KarenUK on there too) and am really enjoying it - find it quite exciting!

I visit these boards at least once a day and love reading about all the pins although many I can only dream of ever owning.

I am trying to specialise a bit in Pinocchio, Snow White and Lady and the Tramp pins, and recently I have started looking longingly at the 'Walt' pins too! And I also love Pooh!

So greetings to you all from across the pond!

Karen
