Free dining usually starts around August 15th-ish, so this makes total sense that this promo would end on the 14th. In years past, free dining has usually dropped mid to late April anyway, with last year being an exception and dropping on March 1.

I booked two nights at AoA today for August. The CM couldn't even give me a AAA discount on a standard room. He said the standard rooms at AoA are the most demanded room at Disney right now (I have no idea if that's actually true) because people want to stay in the newest resort without paying the Suite price. He said he thought they'd not be part of any discount offered for the summer. I have no idea if this info is correct, or if they'll offer a discount on the suites.

I don't think we'll know anything for sure until the actual deal comes out. For the spring deal, some of the deluxes were 30%, but the monorail resorts were only 20%. I'm guessing they're filling those up faster now with new Fantasyland (everyone wanting to spend more time at MK). I think it just all depends on what resorts need to be "filled up".

Let's look at historical free dining offers for the fall, and how they went along with the summer discounts. As you can see, the two discounts co-existed for some time, and when one ended the other began.


So far, everything is making perfect sense to be the same as years before.

Some history:
2009 - Free dining began 8/16 and was available for booking on 3/30.
The summer room only discount expired on 8/14 and became available on 3/29.

2010 - Free dining began 8/15 and was available for booking on 4/29.
The summer room only discount expired on 8/8 and became available on 5/7.

2011 - Free dining began on 8/28 and was available for booking on 4/28.
The summer room only discount expired on 8/13 and became available on 4/1.

2012 - Free dining began on 8/25 and was available for booking on 3/1.
The summer room only discount expired on 8/14 and became available on 4/2.

08/15-9/29/12 room only discount was offered on 05/01/2012
08/14-10/1/11 room only discount was offered on 05/29/2011
08/15-10/2/10 room only discount was offered on 05/03/2010

So, I would guess beginning of May.

You're right. I think some people were looking for R/O discounts, though, and were thinking there wouldn't be another one offered. Since free dining has started later the past couple of years (end of August), some folks thought there wouldn't be any discounts for that in-between period (8/14-8/25ish). This concerned me since our trip is 8/13-8/20. Room only discounts work better for our family, so I'm hoping they continue to offer them

I'm sure they will open up more offers after the free dining is released for a while. Their goal is filling rooms, so they will do what's needed to fill them.
