Since we went to WDW years ago, I have been trying to talk to DH about considering DVC. He always said no. The other day, he has this great idea and tells me that he has been talking with a co-worker and he thinks we should do it! ok...out of nowhere, but makes me happy :cool1:

So, now our trip in dec/jan just got more complicated! AUGH! We have ordered the information to look over and are just starting to read all about it. My thoughts are, since we can get the dining plan, since we LOVE the dining plan, why not? We got every year and plan to go every year forever.

So, to all of you...Why wouldnt we join? Just trying to look for downsides because it just seems to make sense!

Also, how do you choose your "home" resort. We have never even stayed at any of those resorts so we dont know enough about them. I am about to do my reading on the points etc..

Also, when we first heard about it, they said "you can will it to your kids"..well, we found out that they all expire in 40 years, then what happens?

Just trying to get my brain wrapped around all of this.

it is deeded property -so yes you can still will it to your kids...

SSR quits in 2054, the others quit in 2042....

DVC has always been a lease property.... even the DD hotels, SoG and D/S are leased....

Disney just does not part with its land.

I would call today - I think the price goes up April 1. Sometime if they knew you are interested they will give up a break on the prices even after they go up...
 
This is definitely not the place to get a real good unbiased opinion whether to buy. Most members on here eat, sleep and dream Disney all day long, along with they plucked a few bucks down to own DVC. We plunged in this year and have a few trips planned already. We can go pretty much whenever so we bought at SSR for the good promo and are staying at WL and BCV later on this year. It all depends when you can go and were you want to stay.
 
As far as location that really is a personal preference. We went with SSR because of the extra 12 years on the contract. We don't have kids yet and thought that by the time we do we would like to have a resort that could grow with us, them and future grandchildren. But as the previous poster said the price is going to increase on 4-1 but there is always the Timeshare store if you want to purchase a sold out property. Either way, we went through the same thing, trying to find all the cons and really there weren't any for us. Good luck! Hope to welcome you home soon!
 

If you go to Disney every year and are planning to do so in the future, it makes perfect sense. We just bought in Oct and are so glad we did.

About your home resort. If you want to be close to the parks, then you should pick either the Boardwalk, Beach Club for Epcot/MGM or Wilderness villa's(MK).

We bought into the boardwalk because I just loved the location, setting, theme etc. It did cost us about $1500 more because of the incentive going on at the time for SSR and the maintenance fees are higher by about .65 cents per points, However, We think it is worth it. One nice thing that the BW has is that they have 2 sets of points. One for Preferred Views and one for Standard views- therefore, if you rent the room with a Standard view it will cost you less points (6 pts per night for a 1 bedroom which can add up over time.) OKW has the lowest points of all the DVC and have bigger rooms. You can get the sold out resorts from Disney too, but the resale market for OKW is more reasonably priced. Rumor has it the sold out resorts are going up to $95 April 1, 2006 and SSR is going to $101

Really research where you would like to be as all the resorts have pluses and minuses. And go with your heart!!!
 
All I would say is make sure you do your homework. DVC's are expensive timeshares if you plan to vacation outside of DVC properties. I'd also suggest reading loads of reviews on the properties yourself and find the one that you like best and buy into that.

As for the property being left to your family, yes you should, however you should also be aware that as with all timeshares it is a liability you are leaving your family as they will have to continue to pay the maintainance costs.
 
See how much your Dec/Jan. trip will be costing you and use that money towards DVC! I purchased at the end of Feb. and canceled by April hotel ressie and booked a DVC villa instead. Good luck with your decision. It seems like once the ball starts rolling the next thing you know you are signing your paperwork and booking your next stay. It does seem to happen very fast.
 
First, only buy DVC if you plan on going to Disney yearly or at least every other year.

Second, you stay in moderate or deluxe resorts.

You need and want more room and space that a hotel room does not offer.

Home resort choice is a personal choice. If you love a certain resort, buy there. Then you can book at your home resort 11 months out. That gives you a 4 month window over other owners at your resort.

The only other factor to consider is time. All the resorts are scheduled to expire in 36 years, except SSR which has 48 years left. You can buy at any of the resorts, but they will offer you SSR first.

Prices go up April 1st.

It has a lot to do with governance. If they permitted other landowners and residents it would complicate their control of the property. They were granted special powers by Florida when they announced the project.

Are you a DL AP holder? They get a 15% discount right now on SSR. And this is interesting the disclosure says prices start at $15,150. That would be $101 per point. So I wonder if they already raised prices.
