Ok here it goes.....we've been discussing going to WDW in April but the DW would like a quite beach trip and Vero came to mind. We've never stayed anywhere other then WDW resorts and are somewhat afraid of using points and being disappointed. On trip advisor I saw many reports commenting of the run down look of the rooms and how the service is not up to WDW standards. Also people complained about lack of things to do, no characters, and having to pay for sun loungers on the beach...really pay for a chair/umbrella? Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Opinions.......:surf web:

By the way....where do you fly into and how do you get to the resort from the airport??

We had our first stay at VB last October and also were unsure of how we would like it. We came away liking it so much that we are looking into purchasing some points there this year. We flew in and out of Orlando last trip and were in VB over one weekend, but we are returning in March and flying in and out of Melbourne International Airport which looks to be about a 40 minute ride to VB. The flights from Bradley (BDL) to Melbourne (MLB) were cheaper than to Orlando. You would need to rent a car to get back and forth and to leave property because there isnt that much around that part of Vero. The renting of chairs/umbrellas im sure is to keep people from off property from being able to walk up the beach and take them over for the day. I think somewhere on disboards that there is a chair swap or something to that effect. It is a public beach and you need a key card to get to and from the resort. We would get up to watch the sunrise and walk along the surf for a couple of miles and back and sometimes in the evening too.

we loved VB when we stayed last summer. it was our first stay at any Disney resort since buying dvc and we were not disappointed. (we were in a 1 br)

It all comes down to what you are looking for in a vacation.

1. renting the beach chairs. Not necessary, but extremely nice if you choose to do so. They are very comfortable and worth the extra money for 1 really great day at the beach. If you are going to be there an entire week, it might be worth your while to bring your own if it is possible, other wise you can just lay a blanket down on the sand.

2. Lack of Characters. It is a beach resort, not Disneyworld. There are characters at dining.

3. Run down rooms. We have stayed in both the Inn and in the condo rooms and never have I thought they looked run down. All were nicely appointed, nicely decorated, and within the Disney standard. Speaking of Disney standard, the staff are equally as nice and helpful, offering lots of suggestions for things to do.

4. We did a split stay last summer and my boys (7 and 11) want to know if we can do that every time. They found unwinding by the beach to be fabulous.

We have a had some very nice times at Vero and look forward to going again someday. It was a wonderful BEACH vacation.

Hope that helps

We stayed at VB several years ago for a few nights before our WDW stay. While we had a pleasant stay, we much prefer the Gulf Coast for the warmer water and nicer beach. The VB beach has suffered through the years from various storms and is not that expansive like we find on the Gulf Coast.

So if we want a beach vacation, we'll go to Marco Island and pay cash (or possibly trade to RCI) and not Vero Beach.

My DH and I go to Vero at least once a year, usually twice. We love both the Ocean View Inn Rooms and the Studios. Vero is a quiet and relaxing place. It is a great place to walk on an uncrowded beach. Unfortunately, the beach is not as wide as it is in HHI. The pool area is terrific for both couples and families.

We live in Orlando so we always drive. You definitely need a car to get around. There are several restaurants in Vero Beach that we enjoy.

We have been to Vero 4 times. The staff has always been great. There is not a big turn over like the parks hotel staff in my opinion. It's nice going back seeing they same staff and they remember your family. It is a very relaxing vacation. Rooms are not run down. We usually do Vero than go to the parks. Besides Melbourne, West Palm is a good airport to fly into. Not as busy as Orlando.

I'm in VB resort right now, and it's wonderful. DSis & her friend went on the ocean yesterday, with lots of others. Another friend enjoyed the pool. We all enjoyed the Crab Cake sandwiches from the pool's counter service.

We have OVIRs and they are great.

I agree, for an excellent beach vacation, VB is our choice in FL. It's a must do for me every year!
