OK The American Idol was crowned. What do you think?

Ok, The votes were counted and Ruben is the new American Idol. Since the votes were so close I'd like to do a poll of us DISers.

This is a good poll, it will be interesting to see the results.

We may need a catagory for people who tried to vote for three hours and could never get anything but a busy signal.

I think 1 call, 1 vote would be more fair than the current system. I've been grumbling about not being able to get through (and I'll stop now! ) and the results may have been the same but we'll never know. I'm happy for Ruben though.

I tried all night to get thru, with no luck. I spent the day reading these boards and the mega paged thread for Clay showed that several people DID get through, some several times! I was shocked! I didn't get through ONCE!

I am THRILLED for Ruben. He is my personal fave but I still do love Clay. BOTH are true talents. What bothered me is how people started taking sides here and started putting Ruben down. This made me want him to win MORE. Why is it that people have to put one person down to bring another person up? Isn't Clay good enough that you don't have to be down on his competition to prove he's good?

I was so torn before today. Hearing that people voted over and over just rubbed me the wrong way. Next year I hope they find a way to except only ONE vote per line. THEN I believe the voting will be more accurate AND people like Carmen won't be on so long!

On AOL there was a poll that you could only vote once. I know because my son tried to hijack every computer he knew to sign in and do another vote. The poll picked Ruben as the winner. I thought after reading these boards that maybe I was the only one who wanted him to win. I guess I was wrong.

I didn't vote, because I would have been happy with either of them winning. I was thrilled with tonight's outcome, and would have been equally as thrilled had Clay won.

I agree with the one call per phone. There wouldn't be as many votes, but it would all be fair. I wasn't able to get through last night either, I never had a problem getting through before. I mean it was busy for a long time, but I finally got through.

WOW, I am just watching an interview with Clay on the news. He said he may move in with Kimberly Locke, business purposes only, as he can't do business from N.C... SO I guess to save money they will be roomies.

WOO HOO Let the rumors fly.

This is what made me start watching AI. So many threads here were bashing Ruben and Kim I had to tune in to see what all the hoopla was about. I could not figure it out.

Clay, Ruben, and Kim all have excellent voices, however all the negative post I read here about Ruben and Kim made me want one of them to win.

If it had been between the last 3, I would have picked Kim, but I sat on the phone for a long time last night and got through for Ruben a couple times. I still didn't think he would win and am so thrilled that he did!

I voted for Clay, yes multiple times, out of 3 hours of calls, I got through maybe 10 times.

I do agree that one call per person (can they track that?) would make it more accurate.

And as I told my kids, I want Clay to win but I think Rubin will win. Last year I wanted Justin but didn't vote.

I got through on the regular phone line once for Clay, and sent two text messages. I would have sent more if I had known only 1300 votes separated them! LOL. Obviously I wanted Clay to win, but I am happy for Ruben as well. Both of them are amazing talents and I look forward to hearing more of both of them (plus Kim) in the future!

It was actually sort of anticlimactic for me. Last year, I really wanted Kelly to win over Justin, but this year I really didn't care. I loved them both, and both are already on their way to fame and fortune, which is what really matters anyway.

I tried to call several times but couldn't get through. I am thrilled for Ruben. I liked him until the final night, then Clay astounded me with "Bridge Over Troubled Water". I decided then, that I wanted Clay to win.

They both have different styles, therefore IMO, they will both be successful.

Honestly, I think that we need a Clay type singer out there. His voice & look are unique. I thought Ruben was awesome but there are a lot of singers out there that can sing like him already.

I'm happy to see that they were both pulling for each other. It's nice to see how all the contestants got along & cheered each other on. That's how healthy competition should be but this is a topic for another thread.

I agree. Frankly, I don't see a difference between winning and being the runner up. They both get recording contracts, is there a cash prize? Anyway, IMHO the best man won. While I would be more inlcined to buy a Clay CD than a Ruben CD, I think Ruben does his genre of music better then Clay, who sounds like a Vegas act to me.

I never liked Ruben and I never understood the hype surrounding him. I just don't like him so I was really upset to see him beat Clay. I think there were only 1-2 songs that he sang on AI that I enjoyed.

I am a little confused by those of you who seem to think that there has been rampant bashing of Ruben, Kimberly Locke, etc. I don't remember reading any "bashing" of them although there have been comments like mine about that said they didn't like someone. How is that bashing?

I liked both a lot, but I wanted Clay to win because he is more versatile. I'm still very happy for Ruben, and since they both already have recording contracts, I think the title is the only thing that separates them. It will be interesting to see whose album does better.

On the subject of voting, it seems to me like it should have been a dead tie. Each call took the exact same amount of time, and both lines were busy for 3 straight hours, so how did thousands of more calls get counted for one over the other? It just doesn't make sense to me. The only thing I can think of is maybe more people used text messaging for Ruben.

I never voted the whole time except for the final vote. I voted Ruben. I think they are equally talented and Clay will no doubt find stardom in the field. I just thought Ruben from the start! I believe I voted 3 times!
