OK that's it we are moving to Florida ~ Our first trip to the World; UPDT 7/12

Ok that's it we are moving to Florida​

Well we aren't really moving to Florida, at least not yet, but dh really wants to move back to the East Coast and he did say several times on our trip that he wouldn't mind moving to Florida. Let me introduce you to my little family. I don't actually think that we will end up in Florida but most likely in Georgia which is fine by me. I have always wanted to live in the south and it is close enough to drive to WDW.


First up is my dh, Jon, who works really hard as a mechanical engineer for an international company. Since his company is international we do have the advantage that we really can move wherever his company has offices.

Next up is me (Jessica). I am a stay at home mom. I also nanny for a special needs child after school and during the summer months.

Last, but certainly not least, is our dd, Alexia. We call her Lexi and she is 5 1/2 years old.

This is her face when we told her we were going to Disney World on our vacation.

Our trip dates were February 1 – February 16

Our home this trip was POP Century.

This is my first ever trip report so I hope I don't bore any readers I may have.

The original dates for our trip were February 2- February 16. Then Southwest dropped the price of tickets and it was cheaper to fly down on February 1 so we changed our dates and planned to hang out at the resort since we were getting in late the night before. Well February 1 came and a winter storm blew through and they canceled our flight because the plane we were flying on didn't make it to Omaha. So we were back to our original dates. We were really sad but I was at least happy that it wasn't cutting into any park time.

We had decided to not tell Alexia where we were going on vacation. She knew that we were going somewhere we needed to fly to and she was really excited. We weren't going to tell her and just let her be surprised when we got to Pop and see if she could figure it out. We changed our minds and decided to tell her right before we got in the car to leave for the airport. We figured people would ask her if she was going to Disney World when they found out we were going to Florida. We were right people did ask her and we were glad that we had told her before we left. I did video the reveal but I don't know how to post it here but I will tell you what happened. We asked her where she thought we were going on vacation she replied, “I think we are going to Disney World.” Jon said “How did you know?” Lexi said, “Just a lucky guess.” Jon had slipped up and said that that was where we were going 3 nights before we left and she was sitting right beside him playing her Leapster when he said it. She didn't say anything so we just changed the subject and hoped she hadn't heard. I knew she wouldn't react like on the commercial with screaming and all of that because she isn't like that. She just got the biggest smile on her face and couldn't be still.

We parked the car at a long term parking place and took the shuttle to our airport. We paid the $10 a person for the early check in so we checked in our luggage and printed our boarding passes. Then we went to eat lunch. We didn't eat lunch at home because we were so excited leave and just wanted to get to the airport. We didn't have any problems going through security. We boarded and we were off. We had a smooth flight. We didn't have a direct flight but we didn't have any plane changes. We did have to sit on the tarmac once we landed in St Louis for about 30 min. The weather had caused a ton of delays and such so all the terminal we needed was full. Once the people that were disembarking were off I took Lexi to the restroom. However the line was really long but the other passengers were really nice and said we could go in front of them. Then the stewardess came buy and told us we could go in the terminal. So off we ran. I was so sad to run by a Dunkin Donuts as we don't have them here and I miss them so much. My waist doesn't but every now and then I like to have one. Once we were in the air again the rest of the flight was pretty smooth but, once we did lose a lot of altitude really fast. I mean so fast that it was like Tower of Terror. We really did have airtime in our seats. Lexi laughed when it was over and said.”Mama that was fun. I wasn't even sitting on my seat any more.” She loves to fly and that didn't even phase her. We landed in Orlando about an hour behind schedule. We had to retrieve our luggage because it was after 10pm and then we went to the Magical Express counter checked in walked right on our bus. There were a few other families behind us. Once they were on the driver said we were going to be stopping at Pop, Animal Kingdom, Beach Club and one other resort. Then he said Pop was going to be first.

It was about 11: 50pm when we arrived at Pop. I was so excited I could hardly stand it. We had arrived!!!! I checked us in while Jon stayed with the luggage and Lexi played with the other kids that were in the childrens area.

I had only made one request and that was to be in the 50's section because Lexi loves Lady and the Tramp. Well we were assigned build 2 in the 50's section. That meant that we had to walk right between Lady and the Tramp every day.

Once we got to our room we called our families to let them know we had arrived safely. It was close to 1am by the time we finally made it to bed.

Bummer about the storm and date late. And an hour delay on your flight in. But seems as tho the flights went fairly smooth. an hour really isn't that bad. You had to schlep your luggage that time of night too, right? We had to do that at 1 a.m.! I'm sure our neighbors at POR weren't too happy to hear 5 rolling suitcases going by at that time!
