So it didnt come..dangit! I'm just assuming that 2 college photo ID's and a birthcertificate will work? Any one care to make me feel better regarding this. I'm a wreck.

The worst that could happen is she will be subject to a full search (hand search of any carryons, wanding). Don't worry!

First of all, NO ONE has to have an ID, believe it or not!!!!!!!!! Not even adults. You just go through a much stronger security check is all. Found that interesting to say the least when I learned this. My idiot cousin was due to fly home and the night before he tells me he has NO ID at all. I called Southwest and they told me you don't really need one.

My husband and I flew out of CVG in June and when we went through security they said my liscence was expired and that they couldn't let me though. They told me to go to Delta offices to see what they could do. Delta said in less I had a goverment issued id they could not let me fly. I had my expired liscence, two credit cards, my health club photo id, my health insurance card. they weren't accepting any of it. They said it HAD to be a government issued id. Just when I was about to leave and miss my flight, i pulled out the only thing left in my wallet, my Library card. They said that will work, it's government issued. I knew I had my library card for something :rotfl2:
I did have to go through the extra security though, but at least they let me on the plane.
I suggest just to be safe to bring a social security card, or birth certificate.

Does she have her temporary license? This happened to my husband too. He was able to use his temp. license which was just on a an official piece of registry paper. He had no trouble at all getting through as his photo was on it. Good Luck

OK now im confused. And scared. Ok, so some tell me no ID is necessary, some say they couldnt get on without an official government ID.

What makes a library card with no picture on it official? Any child can get a library card, i'm confused. She does have her birthcertificate and that has to be more official then a library card, yet again, no picture...the only ID she has with photos are her College ID's from 2 seperate schools.

I dont care if she gets STRIPPED searched (serves her right for not keeping up with her ID during this all stressful trip im planning lol) but i want her hiney on that plane at lift off!

So, ok, again, to be on the safe side, a college photo id and a birthcertificate will be just fine right? (she cant find her SS card either...ugh)...and a possible strip search. Right???

sorry just noticed that i bumped the original post earlier too :( sorrry!

The school ID will be fine and bring the BC. They do not do strip searches.

Many people get on a plane everyday without a DL. Bring every bit of ID you have and get to the airport early. There will be some hassle involved, but no strip searches. The most anyone has to endure is a complete bag search and a chemical scan.

Seriously, don't stress about it (too many other things to stress about). People lose their wallets on vacation, have no ID, and still get on planes. You've got college ID's and birth certificates. You'll be fine.

Before my daughter got her license, she was able to use her high school id and her birth certificate. My advice, call the airline. She will be fine to get on. Just give them a call and let them make the call on the requirements. We flew SW both times when she didn't have her license yet and when my husband only had a temp and they said don't worry about it. Give the airline a call pixiedust:

Get to the airport an additional hour earlier than you otherwise would, 2-3 hours before your flight. Depending on your airlines' luggage allowance you might check her luggage and you should take as much of her carry on as you can. Luggage she checks will be probably be hand searched.

Check the previous thread on this issue. Posters are correct, TSA requires SSS screening if you don't have a government ID. Some airlines have the photo ID requirement, in fact a poster said the TSA is trying to make the airlines require photo ID, evidently the TSA can't require it.

just to make sure (i hope this kid who answered knows what shes talking about..).. but i called Air Tran.

She said that 3 forms of ID would be needed to get on the airplane. Atleast a Birth Certificate, a work or college ID and a police report stating stolen ID or whatnot or a photo library card. Ok, well no library card, no police report.

So then she asks if the college ID is a state college. I told her both were community colleges, she says that is a governmental agency (she thinks..since its a college run by the state and not private) with 2 of those and her Birth certificate and temporary ID from texas (paper) she should be fine.

keep your fingers crossed. The seem a bit more strict than i originally believed they might be.

thanks for all your help :)

When my dad temporarily misplaced his ID (he actually had it, just couldn't find it when we were checking in the airline) They said his SS card and a photo card from his apartment unit were enough. This was in March 2006. He also had a Medicare card.

I'm sorry to have scared and confused you, I just don't want you to be disappointed at the airport. Believe me I was as suprised as anyone when they accepted my library card as a legal government id. But these ladies at Delta really wanted to help me out. :goodvibes
I did have to go through the extra search. It was a little intimidating to see a woman approaching me with rubber gloves on :scared1:
But all that it entailed was that all of my carryons were opened and searched by hand and wiped with some cloth that I imagine checked for gun powder and explosive chemical residue.
Since we had one way tickets each way my tickets back home were not marked with SSS, because noone at the security check even looked at the expiration and I wasn't about to mention it.
I suggest bringing more than you think you'll need. I'd be willing to bet with 2 college photo id's and a birth certificate your dd will be fine. Good Luck! :goodvibes
