we are going the 17 thru the 24
we are curretnly book at pop i was key was freaking out but stopped
this am DH called and says he thinks he wants to upgrade as we have the dining plan and there no sit down place at pop
is it worht it
will the room be bigger?
also i was told i could take a boat to dtd
thanks

the room size in a value and moderate are close.

the moderate might be a little bigger - but not alot.

I like the 2 sinks (moderate) vs one sink.

yes, there is a boat to take you to DD from POR.

I like the hamburgers better at POR. these are prepared in front of you while you wait. I do like the frozen cokes at POP.

I just stayed at POR and while I was there went over and visited POP. I think it's worth the price to upgrade. POR is beautiful! Their pool and slide are way nicer, rooms alittle bigger. Nice privacy curtain separating the sink area which was great in the morning so the light didn't affect the other people sleeping in. Our room was in AB section because we needed a trundle and the rooms were fantastic. Really clean and fresh from just being rehabed. They have the boat to DTD and you can use the pool at FQ too. Food court at POR is really nice. You can rent the mouse boats or surrey bikes also. I honestly loved everything about POR. I'm sure POP is fun, I just liked the relaxed, toned down atmosphere of POR. It was more my style.

If it is within your budget, I would definitely go with POR. Our stay there was perfect. The boat is awesome to DTD; I get tired of buses. The resort is beautiful, landscaping beautiful. No problems with buses, front desk, etc. Our stay at POP was okay but by no means perfect. POR was much more relaxing IMHO.

I thought POP was a really good value for the money, and we had no problems with noise, but I don't think we'll return. I didn't like having to stand in line for buses in the hot sun (we ended up driving to all the parks after a couple of days), and everything seemed crowded (except where our room was, which actually seemed very quiet). We've stayed at POR several times, and it seems much more relaxed to me, and a lot less concrete. If you're looking for a constant "Disney" feel, then POP may better suit what you're looking for, and you could use the money that you could save for other things, but for me, I would choose POR and skip a couple of souveniers over staying at POP again.

I have not stayed at POP but not having a restaurant is not that big on a deal. On the meal plan we used our resort (CSR) only for counter service and never went to their sit down restaurant. Dining plan lets you eat at all sorts of great places like Boma, Cape May, character meals, etc. so I would not tend to use the credits on Boatwrights.

With the free dining plan the best deal was to stay at a value resort--gave the most bang for the buck--but I wanted to be at a moderate since they tend to be a bit quieter (though both Dixie Landings and CSR were quieter than WL!).

We stayed both last month...1 night at POP (cause it was cheap) and 4 at POR.

When DH opened the door at POP I laughed and said "be careful - don't trip over the bed!"

it was nice for one night...and I guess you can call me a resort snob...but I really preferred POR. The quite pools, the grounds, the food court...I really felt more relaxed there. plus at POR you get a fridge in your room (if that matters to you)...and the 'extra room' is kinda nice.

I will say that POP had a pretty big gift shop!
it's up to you though..personally, I'd spend the extra money at POR or POFQ. one thing about the boat though? it takes FOREVER sometimes. so I wouldn't say it's a HUGE plus.

I also consider myslef a resort snob we have only stayed deluxe ever
ds6 really wants to stay at pop we wanted to do at least a mod and POR seemed to have a cool slide
thats why were gonna compromise but ds6 is adamant about pop
and i think my Dh will give in
its 395t o upgrade to por and i dont care i dont think thats bad so we will have to see what happens

We have never stayed at a value but have stayed at POR. We just upgraded from POP (What was I thinking?) to POR last week for our trip in January since deciding the extra money is worth it. We love love love POR. It is so quiet and relaxing to just stroll around the grounds. When we were leaving last time, DH mentioned how he will miss our little walk to the bus in the morning. We also loved the boat ride to DTD. You will not regret if you upgrade. Hmmm.... I can't wait!! :Pinkbounc

Until my last trip I would have definately said to upgrade. I have stayed at both POR and CBR and thought I would never be able to stay at a value resort. Despite that, I have always been intrigued by POP. I always choose a mod because I thought the spread out feel was better for more my family of 4.

On my last trip to CBR, I discovered that POP was very close. I ran there on 3 separate occasions. Although I was not able to go into any of the POP rooms, I liked the outside of the entire resort. I thought the theming was superb. I surprised myself, because I had previously thought that the larger than life icons would make me puke. Quite the contrary. I could not get enough of the place. I even made my husband go over there with me one morning. I wanted to read every sign and stare at everything.

I also thought the gift shop was beautiful. Very large and well stocked. The food court was also very nice. The pools looked great and the landscaping was nicely done. The only eye sore was the unfinished 20's buildings across the lake.

Before you make you decision, consider what you are looking for in a resort. Is it something fun and unique? Is it something spread out and quiet. Would you rather have a few extra dollars for spending $ or a car rental. How many people will be in the room?

On my next trip to Disney I have decided that I want to try POP. The moderate resorts are great and you get a lot for your $, but I won't rest until I read each of those signs at POP.

We just stayed at both POP and POR ~ got back 1 week ago today. We split our stay, starting out at Pop and ending up at POR.

We liked them both, but have to admit the POR days were better! Our kids loved the water slide on the pool. We loved the quieter atmosphere, the beautiful landscaping, seeing bikes and horse-drawn carriages pass by on the paths. Also, we really enjoyed the boat to DTD.

The food court at POP was very loud & hectic. They did have the frozen Coke & blue drinks. But POR had cherry & vanilla Coke, which my kids liked, too. It could be crowded, but it was never the zoo that POP was, esp. at dinner.
Finally, we loved having the refrigerator and privacy curtain. It made our time in the room more enjoyable.

Either one will be fun. But my vote would be POR!

This is probably heresy here but.....I have never stayed at a value resort, and I think if I were faced with staying at one I'd just stay off-site. For the money you can stay at a pretty nice off-site hotel, and maybe even a suite. Early Entry seems to be less of a deal than it used to be--I hit 3 early entry days and those parks were pretty packed right from 8AM. I don't use the buses that much (always rent a vehicle). What other benefits are there of staying onsite? I don't find that many of the resorts super-magical either, especially not the Value ones.

Note: I am not well-off, and I am probably right in the middle of WDW's economic niche for Value resort guests. I'd rather take less WDW trips and stay at a moderate or better resort.

We too were always intrigued by Pop and we have stayed at every mod and deluxe on disney property, so I thought it would be fun to try Pop, although I was prepared not to like it never having stayed at a value but...., I LOVED IT!!! It was so much fun! Best housekeepers ever, everything is huge and colorful, pools were great, food court was the best Ive seen, WAY better then at Poly or CR, we had a split stay at POP and BC, we actually missed pop after 2 nites and went back!
I always imagined values being poorly done or bad theming or lack of service, and it was the total opposite, and for the price it just cant be beat

We stayed at Pop in August, and POR is one of my favorite resorts. Dd and I really liked Pop. It is very different than POR...much more 'hip and happening' as dd said. Very bright and in your face, so to speak. If I were you, I would split my stay. Stay at Pop for maybe 3 nights, then move over to POR. I would almost consider taking a cab also. It's just easier to get your luggage moved to the next resort. (I had issues with that in June...BCV did not do a great job of getting my stuff to POR).
POR is terrific. The rooms will be a tad bigger. I find there is a bit more storage there also. The privacy curtain they have added is wonderful!!! In fact, my dd (almost 12) insisted on pulling it closed and playing in back of it!!

The pools are wonderful Ole Man Island is a great place to swim. The pool slide isn't huge, but it's okay. The pool itself is good sized. And the quiet pools that are scattered about the resort are a great place to just kick back and relax. The food court is fine. We have yet to have any issues with it. And if you do want table service eating, you can...Boatwrights is pretty decent.
The bus service is usually good. We haven't had too many times where the waits were excessive. Even when we stayed in Magnolia Terrace, we still used the main bus stop by the front of the resort.
All in all, it's a terrific resort. I love trying the other resorts, but POR is one I keep going back to. It was my resort in WDW, so it's nostalgic for us. I try to stay there for a few nights at least every other trip or so.
