We need someone to help us with some basic plans for our addition. I talked to our contractor he doesn't have a name of a draftsman. Do all the companies listed in the phone book under drafting services automatically do drafting of building plans??? If not how do I know? Do I need to call each and everyone?

Did you ever get that cd to work for you? I wouldn't know how to find a drafts man. My only suggestion is not to forget to show us the pics!!! :thumbsup2

I can't get the cd to do what I want....so I'm going professional. My dh's really good friend did full plans years ago but he is a high priced NY archetict and really doesn't have the time to redo stuff for us now. I've waited 4 months to try to get restarted....I'm now taking the ball into my own hands and find someone who can get us the drawings we want.

You need to find someone that specializes in Architechtual Drafting. My husband was a drafter up until his health started to deteriate. He did mechanical drafting then when he was laid off of work, went to work for an architecht for a short period of time. He didn't enjoy it as much as the 3D mechanical drawing. You need to find someone in your area that knows the town codes ect. Better safe than sorry to find someone that knows what they are doing. You can try anywho.com to see if you can locate a drafting office - not too many around. Or call some local contractors - they may know of some or your local town hall. Good luck with your plans!

We own a engineering and land surveying company. Let me tell you good draftsmen are hard to find. We have TWO. One lady and one man. They are fabulous. Our lady, Lisa, does just drafting. Our man, Rick has CADD as his speciality. We looked high and low for these people. Rick works out of his home and Lisa works here at our office full-time. We got both from word of mouth but we do some much engineering that we talk to other engineers and land surveyors all the time. People pass names around and we have been very lucky with the knowledge they have brought with them.

Good luck. I wish I could be more help. You may want to call on any local colleges that have engineering as one of their majors and see if they have lists or names of graduates.

Thanks for the advice. we really don't need to worry about Codes cause my town really doesn't have too many....great for us. The contractor is just building the shell so I just wanted someone to draw up some basic plans and make sure the measurements of the addition fit the house.

I did just match up Archetects and Drafting services and found 2 that list in both categories I think I'll start there..
