I see the term "Use year" thrown out there on one of the resale sights... What does this mean????

refers to what month of the year your previous year's points 'expire' (if they weren't banked), and when you get your next year's supply of points.

Let's say you purchased 200 points. You would be assigned a "use year" (that is the month of the year in which your points would recycle). For example, my use year is February, and I own 200 points. Every February, 200 points are available for me to use that year. When I decide to book my vacation, I choose the dates I want to visit, and the type of room that I want to stay in. That will determine how many points that visit will cost me. I also have the option of banking my points into the next use year, or borrowing points against next year for this year.

If I buy thru Disney, is the Use Year month assigned to me the month in which I purchase???? And does it really matter what your Use Year date is???

Use year is when you are allotted your points. It does not affect when you can make a reservation- regardless of use year you can book 11 mos at your home resort and 7 mos at non home resort. Where use year comes to play in that the reservation will be based on points available to use at the time of the reservation.
IE: I have a Dec use year. My points for 2002 are deposited Dec 1, 2002 and are valid until November 30, 2003. I can borrow those points to travel before Dec 1 or I can bank those points if I wish into the Dec 2003 use year. Dec is a good use year for me as I usually travel Dec - April. If for some reason I have to cancel or cannot travel I have plenty of time to bank or use the points. Many recommend a use year a couple of months before your usual travel time to give yourself that added flexibility. However if you will go at all different times, use year doesn't really matter.

As a new purchaser, Disney will give some flexibility in choosing use year. Your dues for BCV will be prorated by your use year. So if you buy now and request an October use year, you would pay prorated dues from Oct - Dec.
