Poll coming...

We went out to supper tonight with DD13 and her friend, and DH said a quote from one of the Star Wars movies. DD's friend had no idea what he meant and we explained it was from one of the Star Wars movies and she replied she had never seen any of them. So, we told her we would have a Star Wars weekend soon and watch them all. BUT, there was a difference of opinion on what should be the order.

So, if you were introducing someone to Star Wars for the first time ever, what order would you watch them and why?

Think of the movies as 2 different trilogies: the ones made in th "70s come AFTER the ones made recently. Regardless of the critics' comments comparing the trios, that is the order that the stories unfold:cool1:

Watch Star Wars, followed by Empire Strikes Back, and then finish with Return of the Jedi.
Then quit while you're ahead because the other three are not worth the hours you'll never get back. ;)

Well I voted in order that they occure, but then again release order might be best. I didn't think about the 2 big "surprises" reviealed in one revealed in 5, the other in 6, that would be spoiled by watching 1-3 first.

We did this with our girls and watched them in order of release.

Interesting....at first I said watch in order of release but now I think about it, might be cool to watch as a newbie the other way around.

Despite alliecats comments, you will have to agree that #3 is the pits.:lmao: Those furry Ewoks drove me bonkers.

Alrighty...I am standing by order of release. Jar-Jar is enough to make people go over the edge and too much politics.

Action-Adventure first...:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Plus...come on, Harrison Ford. Also it would ruin all the Yoda fighting.
One of the highlights is seeing Yoda fight and it is funny because you assumed he was "old"....you would miss the humor there.
Yes, you would miss alot of the humor if you watch it 123 first.

It's true that #3 is not that good compared to #1 and #2 (numbered by release date). But there is no way it is worse, or even as bad as, any of the three that follow.
I see your Ewoks and raise you...a JAR JAR.

Hmmm? That's what I thought! :thumbsup2

Release date order. The original 3 (4,5,6) are so much better than the later 3 (1,2,3).

If I were to watch episodes 1-3 first I wouldn't make it past the 2nd episode.

I think there was a reason that they were released in the order they were. If I were to introduce someone to them, I'd do it that way. I think much of #4 would lose it's mystery if you watched 1-3 first.

Thank you for the replies!

I was the one hold-out for watching them as released, I think watching 1 2 & 3 first would spoil a couple of surprises in 4 5 & 6. DH & DD thought in Epsisode order would be better. :confused3

Besides, I love the original best.

All movies in one weekend :faint: I don't think I could do it!

I picked the 1st offer because my DH says that's the only way to watch them. As for myself, I will not waste any of my time watching them. I would rather go to the dentist:scared1: and I would rather clean a public bathroom before going to the dentist!

Exactly!

This summer I actually intend on doing them all in one day.....my jedi kids are insisting and we have others who will attend too. I think for an short intermission we'll play our Star Wars trivia game.

We'll most certainly do them as 4-5-6-1-2-3. Since I love the original trilogy if I'm tired by the time 1-2-3 are on I just won't care.....except for the podrace of course!

In release date order. IMHO that is the best way to watch it. My favorite is Return of the Jedi but the classics are the best. I have the 3 in a boxed set from many years ago & I still pull them out and watch them once in a while. I do plan on getting them all on dvd someday.

This is pretty much what I was thinking ;) But I know DD loves 1 2 & 3 so she will still encourage her friend to hang on and watch those.

I also have the original 3 on VHS, and then all 6 on DVD.

Thanks again for the replies, I am going to show the poll results to DH and DD.
