So we leave for Disney in three days, in the middle of the possible "pandemic" Swine Flu outbreak in the US. Yes, I do realize my odds of getting in a car accident is way higher than getting the Swine Flu but still...

I guess because at Disney no matter how clean you are there are people and germs everywhere! I don't want it to ruin my trip but, I am a worrier so this just adds to my stress.

What does everyone else think?

I'd say don't worry about it. Remember SARS and the Bird Flu? Didn't become a pandemic. I am not saying that we shouldn't be catious, please wash your hands often ect (oh, and avoiding pork won't matter, a virus is not really spread that way-mostly bacteria). I am on the opinion that stuff like this gets blown up in order for news channels to have something to scare us into watching their coverage.

My youngest daughter almost died a few years ago from influenza A, so I am a bit freaked... but since I can't put my family in a bubble, I have run through all the do's and dont's with the kids. Wash your hands , cover your mouth, wash your hands again!!! If they don't feel well or run a fever...well, I will probably feel like I want to have a nervous breakdown, and probably twitch a bit..ok a lot!;)

All we can do is be cautious and try to remain calm, but I do understand that it is not always easy.

Blessings,
Kim

I'm not really worried about this specific virus, but it is sort of scary to see just how fast and far disease can spread in modern times.

I'm not too worried. It looks to me form my research that the deaths in Mexico are due to substandard health care, and it thr US so far the semptoms compare to regular flu.

You take the best precautions you can & then take it on faith.

Don't let it make you overly scared tough.

Many people here don't just wipe down their carts(with antibacterial wipes), they scrub them totally spotless Like brand new, but let a clerk they don't know hand them cash out of her register that she got from someone else she didn't know!

When it comes to germs there is nothing dirtier than money!!!

My DH freaks out when I check out a library book - he thinks that is the most disgusting thing, along with money of course..."What if someone took that book into the BATHROOM???". I just laugh. :rotfl:

As for the swine flu, I really would like them to maybe close the border to Mexico so no infected people come to the US and infect others. I'm sure it's probably too late for that, but why risk it? On the other hand, I just wonder if it's a slow newsday and that's why we're hearing about it. :confused3

Unfortunately, the ones who have it now are Americans, we cannot let them not come home. It is now in NY and in Canada!! I live in CT which is not far from NY so I am a little freaked.

Yes, I will admit that I am a bit scared over this. It is big news here since I live about 40 minutes from St. Francis Prep (the private school with the outbreak in NY). I know that the chances are highly unlikely, but still it is scary. Especially since we'll be on a plane to DW one week from today. Just thinking about all those germs on the plane

not as unlikely for us. My kids don't go to that HS but they have friends that do & my DD trains at the same gym as they do. So I'm half expecting to get it (don't worry we're not going to disney for a while). I'm not too worried about it, it has been mild cases here in NY.

we leave in 3 days, too!!!

where are you staying? how old are your kids??

we'll be at the POP, and i have a 4-yr old dd. this is our first trip to wdw (for me and dd....dh was there in the 80s, so it hardly counts!)

don't let the flu bum you out about your trip! just stay clean, hydrated and comfortable....it'll be fine!!

see you there!:hippie:

DON'T WORRY!!!
WASH WASH WASH those hands (we are notorious for this in our household normally) I even have my ds friends that come in now and go straight for the bathroom to wash their hands, I say it so often. :rotfl2::rotfl2:
Too funny but SUCH a good habit regardless of the latest scare!
Have a GREAT trip and RELAX!!:wizard:

That is so cool! This is our first family trip too. I have a 4 yo dd and a 6yo son. We are staying at the Polynesian. Are you packed? It's taking me FOREVER! Have fun!

my boyfriend is calling it the zombie flu. he has lost his mind... :confused3:rolleyes:

i have not started packing yet. my dh wouldn't let me!! (he knows me too well!) he will get the suitcases out tonight and i'll pack tomorrow and tuesday.

i have been reading these forums and collecting tips and pointers, so i have a box (or 2) of "must-have" stuff that i've been collecting for a month or so. it shouldn't take me too long to get the stuff in the bags.

only trick will be packing the little gifties we've gotten for dd without her seeing them. one of them isn't so little....it's a new belle gown. (her head is going to explode, for sure.)

wash your hands and practice good hygiene. I hope the flu doesn't become a huge thing in the US. It's scarry.

I am not stressed and the hospital where I work is already preparing for it.There is not much you can do but practice Universal precautions .We have not had a flu pandemic since 1918 so we have been very lucky and possibly overdue.Just practice good hand hygiene ( soap and water), practice good technique for coughing ,sneezing, blowing your nose, and go with it.Hand sanitizers are all well and good but useless against viruses like Swine Flu.

We leave in 5 days () and I am most worried about the airport and airplane. We will be doing serious hand-washing and I will have my sanitizing hand gel ever present. However, I am always leery of getting a stomach bug, cold or whatever whenever we travel. I hear the cases here are not as bad as Mexico, and I do think that the media can really focus on one aspect of the news like a broken record.

Good luck all and for those of you traveling, have a great trip!!!!

I normally am the least paranoid person about germs...but all the attention this flu is getting is starting me to think. I'm probably going to be a little extra cautious about our trip next week. Although I'm hearing hand sanitizers aren't an effective product, I'll have everyone wash hands as often as possible and am even considering bringing clorox disinfecting wipes to give the hotel room a thorough wipe down. Normally I wouldn't even think to do this, but if one of us got sick, it would be a total buzz kill...

Fingers crossed...we're down to single digits!!!

I am so freaked about Swine Flu and I'm not headed to WDW! If I were I would probably really freak.....they are people there from all over the world and so many germs!!! Wash your hands and use plenty of hand sanitizer :goodvibes
