pirate: OK ...close to buying after looking at SSR over our vac to WDW last week. I am confused, however, at which resort is the most attractive and is most convienient to MGM / Epcot Parks. Does SSR have good transportation provided ?

Also, what happens to us that need to make VAC decisions at a 2 or 3 month window? Are we likely to get shut out of a reservation?

That would be either the Beach Club Villas or the Boardwalk Villas. Both are within walking distance of EPCOT and MGM. There is also boat service to both EPCOT and MGM from both resorts.

You can walk or boat to Downtown Disney. Service to the parks is via bus.

If you will nearly always be making a reservation 2 - 3 months ahead of time, I would suggest that DVC is not right for you. Short notice reservations are possible, but many times of the year will require you to reserve much further in advance to get a reservation. DVC works best for those who can plan 10 -11 months in advance.

Good luck with your decision.

Welcome to the Dis-Boards.

The most convenient resort to EPCOT and MGM is the BWV and the BCV. Since I haven't stayed at SSR I can't say anything about its transportation system. If you are really interested in the EPCOT?MGM Resorts, have you considered a resale? But on the other hand if you caan't make reservations until 2 to 3 months in advance, it really doesn't matter what the home resort of the points is. But will this be the case for the next 50 or 38 years?

If you are making reservations only 2 to 3 months ahead of time you very well could be limiting your choices for either the type of room you want or the resort you really want to stay at. Forget busy times of the year completely. You may be able to get something but you never know.

Good luck with your decision.

You can only buy DVC at SSR through Disney. If you prefer one of the other resorts, you have to buy a resale. Availability for a unit 2 or 3 months out depends on the time of year and the resort. I've gotten one at 3mos out before.

You cannot beat the convenience of the BWV to MGM and Epcot. In fact that is probably the main reason that BWV is our resort of choice. BCV are almost as convenient but a little smaller, but the pool is the best. I do feel that transportation to the 4 theme parks might be a drawback to SSR although if you like Downtown Disney that would be a plus.
As far as 2-3 months out, what time of the year do you like to travel. If you are not going during the peak months, it may still be possible to get a room. Also, review the cancellation policy, perhaps you could book a room based on when you would ideally like to go, and then if that does not work out, cancel and rebook when you actually can go.

You buy 150 points, costs $11,000. You then get a vacation every year.

This could be 12 days in a studio, 6-8 days in a 1 bedroom, or 5 days in a 2 bedroom.

You get to choose from BWV, BCV, VWL, SSR, OKW, etc.

You pay monthly dues of about $55.

The resorts are equal to Deluxes.

Thanks all for your replies. This is all new info that I'm digesting. Only just introduced to DVC at WDW on Thursday of last week.

Kind of acustomed to picking up a Vac package on the net a couple of months in advance before traveling. This purchase will require us to plan ahead a bit more. But Disney Magic beckons.

Has anyone had experience using DVC for a trip to Europe ?
