Relative newb here. I've been reading these boards quite a bit lately and have found a wealth of information (actually, information overload). We have booked our trip in mid-July for 8 days. I keep reading in posts about how hot it is at DW during this time period. Is it the heat? Humidity? How hot is it really during this time? We are from OK and it usually hovers around 95-102F during this time frame here. I'm guessing it's just what you are used to. Heck, maybe I'm in for cooler weather???:woohoo: :confused3

Its both. We were there last August (8/10 -8/24) and it was in the high nineties and very humid every day. Every evening around dinnertime there was thunderstorm that would roll through and be done in less than an hour. We found the best way to tour was to get up early and go to the parks when they opened, stay until 1-2 pm, go home for something to eat (we rented a private pool home), have swim and then go back at night (it was definitely cooler after the sun went down. Just make sure you drink plenty of water, take rest breaks (the airconditioned restaurants and gift shops are a great way to cool off) and don't try to do too much in one day and you should be fine.

Mostly people are felled by the humidity if they are unaccustomed to it. You didn't say where in OK you're from, but I've lived in Tulsa, and summer there and summer in Orlando felt much the same. I looked it up, and the average humidity in Tulsa in July is 56%, as opposed to 60% in Orlando.

We live in Norman. It's not as humid as Tulsa, but it can get pretty brutal. All in all, it sounds like a somewhat typical summer day here: A little cooler but a little more humid. I'm guessing we'll stand up to it a little better than most simply because we've lived in it all of our lives and are used to it.

I think as long as you are prepared both mentally and physically, then it's fine. We went last August with our 4 young boys. We WERE nervous about the heat! We never lived in a southern, hot climate so we were not used to it. And we were fine!! We did what the pp said. We went to the parks early and/or late. And took breaks in the afternoon. Although on two days we actually spent time outside in the sunniest, hottest part of the afternoon, and we STILL did fine! Maybe we are more tolerant than we realized. Or we just had a good plan and took enough cool breaks that it worked out.

I hear July is more crowded than when we went in mid to late August though. More people=more stress=more difficult to cope with the heat (IMO). But still, be prepared and plan, and you'll be ok!

Thanks. I figure if I can do golf in OK in August, I can manage DW in July.

The thing about it is being out in the heat and humidity for most of the day and doing a lot of walking as well. It is not like playing golf in the summer! There is a lot more physical activity involved :lmao:

Hey, golf is GREAT exercise.:thumbsup2 I use my pushcart so I'm ready. :yay:

Little know factoid: Walking/playing 18 will burn off around 2600 calories.

We live in Southern TX, right off the gulf. Thought WDW, summer, I'm already used to higher humidity and higher temps. Does not matter--the feel is different. You've got water on both sides and there is no escape at WDW. The sun beats down on you differently. It's miserable. But lots of people do it and are happy with it. It IS doable. I just wouldn't choose it if I had other options.

It is a different kind of heat. I've been to Norman in the summer. (Had a brother that used to live there.) It seemed quite a bit drier than what we have here. We have a heat that when you walk out of your house the heat and humidity just kind of suck the breath right out of you. Of course, you will be more used to it than most. One thing we do is bring a few washcloths (or even wipes would work). We can wet them at the fountains and used them to wipe our faces, necks or whatever. There are also those cooling wraps now. I've never used one, but I am planning on making some for this year. They're supposed to do a really good job at keeping a person cool.

Ya'll will be fine though.

Is it the heat? Humidity? How hot is it really during this time?

YES AND YES AND BEYOND HOT!!

Ok, technically I have not been in July but we went last year end of August and I will NEVER NEVER EVER NEVER do it again, free dining or not. It was miserable plain and simple.

P.S. Hey, I'm a Regina too!

The humidity is what stinks. I live in La so I am use to it - but I don't spend all day outside here either! So being out in that awful heat and humidity and blazing sun for hours and hours is misery. We've done it, but we were constantly looking for water to splash ourselves.

I don't ever care to be there again in the summer.

Our last two trips were during August, and we were fine. Our touring plan has been repeated here already - get to the parks early, leave in the early afternoon, go for a swim or a nap, go back to the parks at sunset.

We didn't have much rain on those trips, but we did just miss Hurricane Charlie (by one day) and had one torrential downpour that caught us on the walk between EPCOT and MGM. :scared1:

So, be prepared to sweat, to relax a lot in the air conditioned attractions and shops and restaurants, and to take a mid afternoon break and you'll be fine!

I'm from NY, so it's nearly as hot or humid here in the summer as it is in Orlando, but the majority of my Disney trips have been in August and while it can be extrememly hot, the heat has never made us enjoy our trips any less. There are so many attractions with AC, and other ways to escape the heat that make being there in the summer very bearable. There are a ton of tips on the boards to help prepare for and fight the heat, and they're all a great help. Hope you have a fantastic time!

I've looked it up and the heat/humidity in Orlando when I'm going (July) is comparable to Saint Louis, so I'm not too worried. Hey...that's what Kali River Rapids and hotel pools were made for! :lmao:
