My business partner has gotten a D40. She took some pictures at the beach over the weekend and she says that when you are reviewing the pictures in the camera the light areas are showing up as black. Sky, or anything particularly light.

She did not have the camera with her and I have download the manual for the D40. I have a D300 so I am not familiar with what the display options are on the D40. I do not see a histogram option on the D40 and not sure if it is a button she has pushed or something wrong with the display.

Thanks as always for the great help!

Sounds like it might be showing areas that are blown-out?

I agree with you. Just not sure how to turn it off?!

Just use the round key pad to the right of the LCD display and scroll up or down when viewing the picture. As you scroll up or down it will display the blown out areas just as you are describing, they will flash from whit to black. Scroll further and it will display the histogram, exposure information etc. No big deal, there is nothing wrong with the camera.

I thought it was something like that but not being able to get my hand on the camera, thought I would ask here.

Thanks!
