Well, we did both. I have a dd8 that is also very shy, and she was alone (no siblings friends etc) We sat down loved the view of the castle, loved the appetizers (OHana's) we asked if we could order something for dd as she is not a meat eater, the waiter confirmed this. We got there as the cooconut races were over, and they were getting the 'prize' and our waiter got our dd a gummy worm and told her she would have a turn later.
About the time our dd would've gotten bored with our slow eating, up came a race, or a hula hoop. This I have grown to appreciate!! She had time with kids, and we had time to enjoy our meal.
For Kona's, one day dd and dh were just wanting to rest, or recharge in the room (it may have been the late night past midnight opening of MK and I had planned some down time) I decided to see if I could get carry out at Kona's, and yep, we did, I stopped at the gift shop and bought a nice bottle of wine (under $10 - and they had a corkscrew and took care of the cork!) Again, dd enjoyed her room dinner with tv, and dh and I really loved the food!
So different experience, not much help I'm sure, again, its a very subjective choice, but for me Kona's look like a nice cafe, no view. The food was wonderful! Ohana's has the view, and entertainment for the children, which I didnt realize how much a factor that was!
