With all these great reviews on Kona Cafe, I am thinking I may switch from Ohana to Kona. We have two adults and 3 kids. The kids are pretty shy and don't think they will participate in the activities at Ohana.

Also, My husband and I have already been to Ohana's and found it was a LOT of meat! What else comes with the skewers? I can't remember!

When we stayed at the Poly in Oct. we ate at both Ohana's & Kona. Our kids preferred Ohana's. Our kids are not extremely shy but not overly outgoing either but they both enjoy getting up & doing the hula hoops & coconut races. DD also liked being able to see the castle while she ate.

there was shrimp on the skewers, too. The appetizers, before the skeweres, were intersting too.

I ate at Kona Cafe last week and loved it. It was quiet and the food was great. Lots of kids meal options too. My daughter had spaghetti and meatballs and my son had grilled cheese. DH and I had medallions of filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Wonderful! The desserts are on display and they are great too.

I had a PS for O'Hana but we couldn't do it, so I can't compare them. But I would definitely recommend Kona.

Along with the skewers at Ohana.. you get wings, green beans, shrimp wonton things, and salad.

Well, we did both. I have a dd8 that is also very shy, and she was alone (no siblings friends etc) We sat down loved the view of the castle, loved the appetizers (OHana's) we asked if we could order something for dd as she is not a meat eater, the waiter confirmed this. We got there as the cooconut races were over, and they were getting the 'prize' and our waiter got our dd a gummy worm and told her she would have a turn later.

About the time our dd would've gotten bored with our slow eating, up came a race, or a hula hoop. This I have grown to appreciate!! She had time with kids, and we had time to enjoy our meal.

For Kona's, one day dd and dh were just wanting to rest, or recharge in the room (it may have been the late night past midnight opening of MK and I had planned some down time) I decided to see if I could get carry out at Kona's, and yep, we did, I stopped at the gift shop and bought a nice bottle of wine (under $10 - and they had a corkscrew and took care of the cork!) Again, dd enjoyed her room dinner with tv, and dh and I really loved the food!

So different experience, not much help I'm sure, again, its a very subjective choice, but for me Kona's look like a nice cafe, no view. The food was wonderful! Ohana's has the view, and entertainment for the children, which I didnt realize how much a factor that was!

They also give you bread and rice. I usually only end up eating 3 or 4 pieces of meat from the skewers(beef & turkey only) and fill up on the appetizers.

As for Kona vs Ohana, we really love both. We have eaten at both, multiple times each, and never had a bad meal at either one. It is a tough choice if you can only choose one, but no matter what you decide,I dont think you will be disappointed.

We love them both, but Ohana is one of our favorites....

I've eaten in both places many times.
I think Ohana's is one of the best restraunts on Disney property.
Kona Cafe is definately improving on the menu compared to when it first opened. They have an awesome breakfast menu.

I guess this is where being someone who knows old vs new Disney comes into play. Kona Cafe is no where as good as the restraunt it 'replaced'. That restraunt again, had a true Hawaiian feel going on and a menu that reminds of things you might find on EMERILS Tchoup Choup menu at universal studios.

I ate there a few days ago and accidently ordered the wrong dish. They have 2 dishes that practically identical in name. When it came out it looked like a huge bowl of water with some pork that had been boiled in it with a bunch of shredded onions on top. I guess I had a stunned look on my face coz they asked if this wasn't what I expected, and they immediately offered to bring me something else coz this dish is SO unpopular. (I didn't even ask, the wait staff KNEW this dish is that bad.) Later one of them even told me this dish gets sent back to the kitchen ALL the time.

Kona Cafe was one of the best meals we had our entire 6 day trip! It was excellent. We were there this Feb. :flower: The pot stickers and macadamian coconut crusted chicken breast was amazing and it was served with a mango salad! My mouth is still watering! lol
