We're planning on spending our first night at a dinner out at one of the resorts. We are a family of four(DH & DH & 2 early teen DD's) arriving on Friday, March 28 early afternoon at POR.

Which would you choose of the the above - Ohana's or Mickey's - we don't have a large budget for nights out but want to do a few..... thought this would start us out right.:D

They are both fun resturants for different reasons:

Chef Mickeys-Great Chatacter Interaction, gets us in the "Disney Mood", buffet food, loud and lots of fun!

O'hana- good food (if you are a meat eater) the pineapple and dip for dessert it great! Try to get ps about an hour before fireworks and ask to sit near a window.

This is really a hard choice because both are really good. They are both on our 'must do' list. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one.

I agree! You really can't go wrong with either choice. 'Ohanas is great, especially if you are big meat eaters, but Chef Mickey's has such a festive atmosphere. You will have a great time with either restaurant.

We usually go to Chef Mickey's on our first night. It's a very festive atmosphere and really gets you excited about being in the World. Also, after dinner you could ride the monorail. It's beautiful in the evening. I guess you could do that after O'hanas too though. :D

IMO, it depends on how "into" characters your family is. If your DDs were 7 and 8 instead of "early teens," I'd wholeheartedly vote for Chef Mickey's even though I LOVE the food at 'Ohana. Then again, I'm 26 and a shameless character hound, so it isn't necessarily about age. :teeth: What do your DDs think?

We have both of those restaurants planned; Chef Mickey's for our first night to get us in the spirit. Then you could watch fireworks afterwards from the observation deck on the 15th floor. I think either would be lots of fun. :Pinkbounc

Yes, We have watched the fireworks from the 15th floor before but they won't let you anymore. But, you can watch them from the 4th floor observation deck.

Our DD's are 15 and 13 now and they can barely remember our trip 9 years ago. We were offsite and never even went to a Disney Restaurant! We were pretty broke and clueless but enjoyed ourselves immensely - which is why we're returning.

I've learned so much about what we missed the first time from these boards. Thanks for all of your help everyone..... Haven't made the final decision on our 1st night but leaning towards Ohana..... just want it to be fun as you never know when we'll be back.....!

We have done both, they are both great!!!! For our next trip we are going to Ohanas the first night. I think I would say it depends on what the kids want to do. We have gone to our share of charactor meals so they are not as important anymore, plus we really enjoyed the food at Ohanas..

I guess my advise if to ask the kids what they want to do!!!

I would have to go with Ohana. We tried it for the first time last year and ended up going back our last night.

We discover a great new restaurant just about every time we go to WDW.
