Ohana with kids

We thought Ohana might be fun for the kids - DS7, DD5. But before I booked an ADR, I thought I'd ask about the "alternate" menu.

Our kids would probably eat some of what is on the normal menu, but I'm sure they would prefer chicken nuggets. I've read on ALLEARSNET that "alternate childrens selection is available upon request". From what I gather from this board, you can order anything off of the Kona Cafe childrens menu.

Assuming this is true my question is about the cost. My kids (DD especially) have a very small appettite. They generally share one childrens meal. If we go to Ohana and order one chicken fingers meal - will we be charged $5.49 (the Kona Cafe price for this meal), or will we be charged $10.99 x 2 (the Ohana price for two children).

I don't think I'm willing to spend $22 for chicken nuggets.

Thanks for your help.

We went last year and my girls were 5 and 6, had a great time. Yes they can get a hot dog or chicken nuggets or tenders what ever they serve there, my girls had a hot dog. We were not charged for it. I do not know if she made a mistake or what.

It's really up to your server whether or not to charge for the kids meal ordered or for the buffet cost. They go and get the kids meal from Kona next door.

Remember that you're also paying for the entertainment and festivities offered - so they might not go for just $5.99 for 2 kids who also have drinks, eat some bread, taste some things, participate in the hula hoop contest, see the fireworks, do the coconut races, etc. You know what I mean?

There isn't really a guarantee. That being said, I don't see how a kid wouldn't be okay eating what is offered as it's just meat, green beans, rice, and salad - I would think that's standard stuff that you eat at home.

lovmy2girls -

Thank you for your response.

You weren't charge anything for the hotdog(s)? Not the $10.99 Ohana price or the $4-5 Kona Cafe price? That is a great deal for you, but I have to assume it was an oversight.

Oh no, I was charged the regular price for the kids as if they were going to just eat the regular food, and they did eat a little of what was offered, what I meant was, she did not charge me EXTRA for the hot dog and fries. Sorry if I confused anyone. :) She saw the kids were not eating much and offered them without even asking me if I would like them to have a hot dog. I was kind of upset due to the fact they were starting to look some what of a hot dog after eating them for most of the vacation. This was a chance for me to let them eat something different. But I will not go there, last time it caused a fuss here on the boards  Were going back to Ohanas on 7/28, cant wait

My DD3 loved O'hanas food, didn't even know there was an "alternate" menu and wouldn't ask for one. She loved the chicken wings, the wonton things, and the meat. At home she eats what we eat, so I wouldn't think going to O'Hana and ordering chicken nuggets...your kids may think the food is great.

Aimeedyan _ HA! I know two two year olds who will not touch meat skewers, salad, rice & especially green beans!!! Chicken nuggets or nothing! Since theyre both under 3 Im assuming Ill be paying for the kids meal! ;)
