Ohana recent negative news

I was at Ohana Sat. night (5th), we had a ressie for 8 and increased it to 12 at the check in counter......they said no problem....our table was ready in 10 minutes.......people without a ressie were being turned away....it was PACKED

It was FANTASTIC as always......service was outstanding...food was very good....(1 piece of undercooked steak)....whatever we wanted more of they brought it......one of the guys in our group said "we need more ice cream for the bread pudding"........Server came back with a bowl with 8 scoops in it..........it was huge!!!!

Only disappointment was no coconut race.......I told my nephews to be ready for it....but it has been temporarily suspended......I said to the server, let me guess "lawsuit"......he said he could not confirm or deny my comment...then laughed.........pretty sad.....

I am curious if anyone has been to Ohana during the past (Thanksgiving) week? I've read several negative reviews on another site lately, have you found that Ohana is dropping in their service / quality recently, or no?

My DH,DS,DD and I dined at Ohana on the Sat night following Thanksgiving. We were so sad we wasted a night dining there. The place was not as packed as our March 09 visit. As for the food, the food was fine. The service was atrocious. My DH who never gets flustered was having a meltdown. We were served by 2 men who were more interested in not serving the food enabling them to get the people out so they could be seated another table. They brought out the salad, no drinks and no bread. Finally brought out drinks, no bread. Then they brought out dips with no serving utensils and dumplings and wings. Then we sat. Waited, waited and then another server from another dining section noticed us just sitting looking like idiots and he offered us pork. No other meat. No vegetables and no noodles. We had to finally ask someone passing by to get a manager. Taking one look at our table the Manager could tell something was wrong and woo hoo our missing waiters reappeared but and it never got any better. To top it off....the waiter joked with us that "wasn't he the best?" I was so disgusted I had no comment. You know that 18-20% recommended tip on the bill? I think this is the first time in my 15 yrs of marriage my husband gave what he felt the service deserved. Enough said. The servers ruined the dinner. I will NEVER try it again. I paid for the dining package and I felt that was bad enough. But to spend 130 dollars for that level of service and food, I would be physically sick. LOL
To sum it up....We go 2-3 times per year, and have so for the last 14 years. Everyone has to try every dining location for themselves and make a decision.
The comments and experiences are just the seasoning in the big pot of decision soup.

My sentiments, exactly! Ohana's is one place we will never return to for breakfast OR dinner - having suffered thru 2 of the worst meals we've ever had.
Food was just OK at bkfst - service & character interaction were less than desirable - especially for the price for a family of 4.
Dinner on the other hand was hands down the worst meal we've ever had at WDW! Service wasn't only lacking - it was almost totally non-existant. We were left without drinks, bread, dumplings, chix wings - you name it! When we rec'd our skewers they were almost inedible. The beef was dry & overdone. The shrimp tasted like iodine and had a mushy consistency - YUCK! Noodles had obviously been sitting around for a long time. Despite all this - we were in the restaurant for well over 1.5 hrs. And we were originally seated behind a floor to ceiling fireplace where you couldn't see any of the action going on in the main dining room! Why even have tables situated in such a position?!?
Mind you - I don't expect 4 star dining at Disney - just decent food & a modicum of service. We didn't find either at Ohana's - despite trying twice.
On the other hand, we found Tusker House to be great (tho we did feel rushed thru bkfst last May).
I actually appreciate all these reviews - both positive & negative - they help me make my ADR decisions. Not to say that YOU shouldn't try it - just that I won't be going back...

We just ate at Ohana last Fri night, Dec 3-it was fabulous. This was our second time dining there and both experiences were great-the salad is good, the wings are excellent, and the meats are so flavorful-we just love it all. Not to mention the bread pudding with that heavenly brown sugar sauce on top!Everyone has different tastes, so if you're unsure-try it for yourself.

we ate there in Nov , we go every trip....It was soooo good! The service is bad alot of the time but our server was GREAT, she was on the ball.We normally ask that the sides and the meat come out at the same time and she had it together...everything was hot and tasty! The meal was so good we almost went back a few nights later.

We had breakfast there on Sunday morning. It is the one table service restaurant we will not return to.
The service was fine, the character interaction was fine.

The food was not to our liking. DH found the eggs to be too salty and I found that the sausages were too salty.

I think the reason that Ohana is so full all the time is because it gets "so much press" - and no I don't mean actual press....but people talk about it all the time!

I rearranged half my schedule to fit in Ohana on my last trip and although it wasn't horrible I will not do it again. Besides the bread pudding (which was to die for) the food was mediocre...and contrary to other posters opinions I AM fairly easy to please....although I dine out all the time, I like everything from Swiss Chalet to the best fine dining restaurants around.....I am not very picky when it comes to food!

I found the beef very tough, I almost choked on mine because I could barely chew it. The shrimp surprised me, because I am from the coast and if there is one thing I am kind of picky about, it's clean seafood.....the shrimp weren't deveined! It grossed me out to the point that I couldn't eat them! I don't mind that if they are little tiny shrimp...but these were big enough that it was definitely noticable! The potstickers were OK, we had to ask 3 different servers for more because they just kept wandering off and forgetting about them.

I think for me the service was what really killed the meal....I am OK with mediocre food, but I do like at least decent service. Our waitress was absent for most of the meal, random servers kept loading up our table so quickly we didn't know what to do....they literally brought out bread, salad, wings and potstickers all at once....and then less than 5 minutes later brought the brocolli and noodles out....meats followed 5 minutes after that (after we had already asked the second server to bring us back some more potstickers.....and were waiting on those...). By the time dessert came we had eaten so fast we were barely hungry for it....I think we just all reacted to the hyper speed that they brought the food out to us!! We were done in 45 minutes from the time they seated us. I really felt like they just wanted us stuffed and moved out so they could turn over the restaurant as quikcly as possible.

That's just my 2 cents....but it's hard to say with a place like this - those who love it love it, and those who hate it do it once and move on :)

Just returned had dinner there 12/4
Our first time there, atmosphere fun for kids, but hectic
food we felt was ok/ nothing special unless you just want abundance.
Wings have lots of skin on them-yuck but taste ok, dumplings dry nothing special, meat -our steak was raw and i like pink, asked for more done and she brought out such absolutedly charred hunks there were inedible couldnt even put fork in them!!Our pork/ turkey just ok, grisly, shrimp weird flavor. Noodles like you get at chinese food court place!
We liked because free dining! If I paid for- not acceptable!!

Now for great meal lets talk Cape May clam bake- crab legs, shrimp, sirloin everything wonderful!!!Desserts everything great!

Used to be our favorite, hands down. We ate there this past Sunday, and it was not at all like before. We waited for silverware and drinks, had the dips, but nothing to dip into. Got the salad and wings/wontons right away, waited forever for the turkey and pork, a long time later the steak came around, then even a longer time for the shrimp! The broccoli was cold as were the noodles and the meats were tough. We were bummed!:confused3 This was my father's first trip and we really built it up for him, what a disappointment!
