My husband is a straight meat and potatos type person. He does not like Mexican, Japanese, or Chinese food. Would he like this restuarant? I heard you have alot of meat choices.

I would be hesitant. If he loves meat, he'll love the main entree meat items--grilled chicken, steak, shrimp. It's all you can eat, so he could get his fill of the meat. He may not like the side items though, which are noodles, broccoli, salad, and pot stickers (so delicious!!!). They start out by bringing you the salad, then the noodles, broccoli, and pot stickers. The meat is the last thing they bring around. He may not like waiting or not like the side items.

This restaurant works by bringing a tray of appetizers then family style vegetables and sizes. The side dishes and appetizers have Hawaiian-type flavors. Next, they bring out skewers of meat and give you several pieces of whichever you want - chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp. Then, they keep bringing the skewers around until you tell them to stop. I don't remember these being overly flavored - you are given dipping sauces that would be used to give different flavors to the meats.

It sounds like he might not be crazy about the appetizers and sides (though we love them), but he might really enjoy the meat options.

"Ohana is all about the meat. The salad and other stuff is just for decoration. It's really just meat and more meat......and banana pudding!:thumbsup2

LOL!!! Let me put it this way, every time we go eat somewhere he always orders steak and fries.

Oh, I love the sides!!!! The noodles (yes, they are like lo mein noodles w/ a light sauce; very different than most oriental restaurants I think) and the pot stickers are two of my favorite things at Ohanas.

Do you have kids? There is an option for little ones that are picky to order nuggets, mac-n-cheese, or burgers rather than eat the family style Hawaiian meal (at no additional charge). If one of your kids orders burger w/ fries, maybe your husband can steal a few fries from one of your children.

Sorry I was short with my response (work stuff)...but... I am a m & p kinda guy too and have been to 'Ohana many times. Last year I tried the noodles for the first time :rolleyes1. Turns out, I loved them. Last year I tried the different sauces for the first time  Turns out, I loved them. I really miss the Maui potatos though. I now make them at home, although not as well as 'Ohana. A trip without stopping at 'Ohana is bad news - I will never do that again.
BTW - While at the Poly, stop by the Tambu lounge and grab a Mai Tai in a to-go cup and watch the fireworks and electrical water pageant at the beach. You will thank me later!!

I would absolutely give it a try. The meat is usually really good. All of the side items are great too. And the bread pudding is amazing. Give it a try. I'm sure he will at least eat the meat, and he should enjoy the rest as well!:thumbsup2

I don't think it sounds like the best place for him. The food is not really spicy but it's not exactly plain or American-style either. If they still had those scalloped potatoes he would probably love them (I am one of those who thought scalloped potatoes didn't belong at 'Ohana). If all he's going to eat is the steak, we get a lot of various reports about the quality. Some say it's great. The last time I had the steak it was too tough to eat.

I guess there would be the option of ordering from the "alternative" kids menu but if an adult did that they would still pay the adult 'Ohana price, hardly seems worth it.

We LOVE Ohana and are all quite picky in our own ways. Their are definitely meats....until you can't eat anymore! And the noodles are great (fairly plan with no sauce). We always need to order more of them b/c all 3 of my boys love them. The rest of the sides are quite good too, minus the broccoli we NEVER eat. :scared1: And the dessert is SOOOO good. We've learned how to make it at home b/c we love it so much. :thumbsup2
I think your dh will enjoy Ohana. As I said before, ALL of my family is quite picky and its a must-do on every trip.
Best of luck to you!! ;)

My boyfriend is verrry picky too! Won't eat any Asian Food at all....

I can tell you he liked the salad (only dressing he likes is French). He didn't like the noodles, broccoli, wings (I didn't like them either), and pot stickers. He loved all the meats and the bread pudding.

After saying all that this was his favorite meal of the trip!!! BUT i would NOT go there if you guys didn't have the dining plan. It is too expensive to not know if he won't like the meal. It is $35 pp!

My ILs are from the rural south (although they have lived in Atlanta). Both are pretty "simple" eaters. My FIL would not dip apples in fondue b/c fruit and cheese "don't mix" :lmao:

My DH thought that "bread pudding" sounded awful (he hates the texture of pudding)

But Ohana is the one dinner where every single person in our party was impressed. The meat is a little cooked for me and DH, but my ILs like it that way (and I knew it was safe for the 3 year old that way). Everyone loved the bread pudding.

I don't know if it will be your DH's favorite or if he would prefer a place where he can get steak and fries, but if you want to try it...I am betting he can find something to eat.
