I looked on the allears site at the dinner menu for O'Hana. It said something about special requests for kids. My son is a picky eater. Can I get a hot dog or chicken strips for him? Is it the same price as kids' meals at other restaurants?
I'd go with the kids meal. The cost for a kid to eat the regular for is $11.99, so the kids meal is a much better deal. Plus, if your child wants any of the regular food, they could easily grab stuff off the lazy susan or meat from your plate.
The price for a kids "alternative" meal (something from Kona) can vary at O'Hana's. We had to pay the O'Hana buffet price in August even tho DS got a grilled cheese, and have read reports here of others paying the same. So I wouldn't count on the lower price-just be thankful if you get it! I think you can "justify" the higher price from WDW's perspective as O'Hana has entertainment, and much like character meals such as Chef Mickey's there's a charge if you simply go there for the entertainment w/o eating.... JMHO.
You'll probably have to ask for kids' options -- the server we had didn't offer them and we had no idea we could have gotten something else until after we had returned home. My youngest child, 4 at the time, ate a sausage and some pineapple.
