Ok so I know everyone says that Ohana's bread pudding is awesome. However My DD and DH are both allergic to Bananas and my mom can not stand the smell of them. We have an ADR for my DS's birthday there and 4 of our party of 6 are on the DDP. My mom and dad will be paying out of pocket but dad is a cm at HS so they will have their own discount.

Has anyone ever been able to request an alternative dessert? What was it and was it good?

We once received ice cream for a banana-allergic party member.
Nothing special, basic vanilla, but they were very generous with it - I swear the bowl had about 7 scoops in it... for one 102-lb adult person :rotfl:

Yup, we've gotten basic vanilla before, one of our family members refuses to try the banana thing, even though it's fantastic!

Just returned from our trip and our first 'Ohana dinner. have to say- the dessert was one of many things that were so wonderful. I never thought I would like it, but wow....yummylicious.:rotfl2:

I hate bananas but I love the bread pudding at Ohana's. I think the banana is only in the sauce which is on the side. If I am wrong, you can't taste the banana at all.

Bananas are only in the bananas foster sauce, so if you skip the sauce and only eat the bread pudding and vanila ice cream, you should be fine.

Is the ice cream on top of it when they serve it? I don't like ice cream but the rest of my family does. can i get mine without ice cream? Thanks.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I think it depends on the server, or on the size of your party. The sauce is always in a separate crock, however.

Al you have to do is ask your server and he'll bring your some bread pudding without ice cream.

AWW that's a sin because the dessert is banging!!!

glad to hear that the banana sauce is always served on the side. we have an adr there for june and i was a little worried about liking the dessert because I am not a big fan of bananas.

Tell them you are allergic. If TJ is aroud that night he may make you something special.

When that is done, the chef usually comes out to your table and talks to you about your options. They try to be as accomodating as possible. If the bananas are only in the sauce, the chef will let the server know not to serve the sauce. He might even offer an alternative to the banana foster sauce--like maybe carmel sauce if it's available??--so you'll still have something to pour over the bread pudding. When you speak to the chef about the bananas, mention that you would prefer no ice cream. I'm sure that would be no problem to get yours w/o.
