I am wondering if using my DDP credits is not the most efficient way to spend my DDP TS credits. It costs 2 DDP credits per person since it is character meal... adults are 20.99 each and kids are 11.99 each OOP. I can't find any posts that break it down for me in meal cash equivalent to DDP TS credit. I probably am not search right LOL... if any one can offer any advice or insight I'd be most appreciative!! TIA!!! :lovestruc

its only 1 credit on the dining plan:thumbsup2
character meals are usually only 1 credit :goodvibes

Most of the character meals aren't 2 TS credits. Cinderella's Royal Table is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Signature meals are 2 credits.

thanks everyone!! I thought all character meals were 2 ddp... yay.. still I did find a blog that said if a buffet is less than $28 than you paying more using a TS ddp than if you paid OOP cash.... interesting concept... anyone have thoughts... it also said if a meal is less than $23 same deal...

The only time I pay OOP is when we go to sci fi. We usually just get a sandwich or whatever is cheap on the menu ;) I always use it for the character meals:) But if you wanted to use it for a more expensive dinner then yes pay OOP

You'll need to do what fits your family and your budget. The reasoning behind the blogs' findings above is just simple addition.

In 2011 you're paying $46 for the DDP. In order to make any kind of savings, your TS meal needs to be between $30-$35. Your QS meal (even with the increases) will be from $14-$19. So if you're on the lower end of those, you've "spent" $44 for your meals. Snacks are in the $4 range (some are a little more, many are much less). So you paid $46 for the plan and spent $48 on food. That's only a $2 savings.

And to expand on this more, essentially, what some smart math people have done is to break down the cost per credit of the dining plans. They are estimates, but can help you see target numbers to hit to insure you're not spending more than you would otherwise.

For 2011 DDP it's about $28.50 per TS and $14.50 per CS. (Add $2 for holiday) for adults. For 2012 this is jumping to about $32.55 per TS and $16 per CS. (These calculations use an average snack value of $3 and do not include the mugs).

While it's not super important to hit those targets with every meal, it is important that your overall average does exceed those and they do give a general guideline when things are on the fence.

I would only pay OOP if you need the credit for another meal that would be more expensive. But, if you have to find a TS meal to use it on, that you were not otherwise planning, then I would not worry about it.
