'Ohana and Yak n Yeti - too similar?

We've never been to Yak and Yeti before, but in looking at the menu it seems similar to the offerings at 'Ohana (dumplings, noodles, etc.). Since we're just planning a very short trip, I don't want to eat at two places that are too similar, kwim? Would love to hear thoughts of anyone who has eaten at both. Thanks!

Hmmm, I've eaten at both but never even considered them as being similar. Like you've pointed out, some of the menu items are similar, but most are different. I really enjoyed Yak and Yeti (and Ohana as well). I had the steak and shrimp, and that incredible wonton dessert and would definitely go back. My DS had the beef and broccoli and that was pretty good too.

I would never have put them in the same group either. They are too totally different places and two totally different atmospheres. There are plenty of things to eat at Yak and Yeti and their menu is pretty diverse.

NOT similar. Yak & Yeti food is wonderful. We've been there twice, once with a party of 4, other time with a party of 3 so have seen several of the dishes available there. (Most recent visit was Jan 2011) No one in either party had a bad meal...was a favorite both times.

'Ohana on the other hand...bland cold food, with very annoying "entertainment" unless you're under 7 yrs. old. (We were there in Nov. 2010) I understand the appeal of "all you can eat" but the food's not worth the first serving, much less more. JMHO, of course. I know lots of people like the place.

I don't think they are alike at all, just based on the menus. I haven't eaten at either YET, but I will be eating at Yak & Yeti for lunch on Friday and Ohana for dinner on Sunday and it never occured to me that they'd be alike. Ohana is grilled meats whereas Yak & Yeti is Asian fusion cuisine. I guess the only similar item is the noodles/lo mein. But Yak & Yeti has a more extensive menu than many other restaurants.

LOVED my mahi at Y&Y.

I thought Ohana's was okay. DH really disliked it. The quality of the food there is definitely surpassed by many of the other establishments on property.

Not alike in the least. Yak & Yeti isn't a favorite, but we did enjoy our meal there and will go back eventually. The food was rather uneven - some excellent dishes, others just so-so - and the atmosphere was too loud for our toddler so we won't book it again until she's older. But the overall experience was quite enjoyable and we do look forward to a return visit and trying some other dishes.

Ohana, on the other hand... Well, my DH & DS liked it so I'm glad we did it once, but it is one of the more overrated DIS favorites in my opinion. Hunks of meat served with sides that were just bland, poorly-timed, and almost seemed table-dressing more than a real complement to the main course (which didn't suit me or my girls at all; we eat meat, but not straight meat with nothing else!), all served in a very loud, very chaotic atmosphere that none of us really enjoyed. I don't have any desire to go back at all, at least not for dinner (breakfast there was one of our favorite character meals).

There are not very alike. It won't feel like a repeat at all.
