I've been trying to get an Ohana ADR for sometime after 7:30 since my ADR window opened up. I finally got one for a Tuesday evening at 8:40. This is the day we're going to Universal, which will close at 7:00. My husband thinks 8:40 is too late but I'm thinking that it might take awhile to get out of the park at closing time so we might not make it there until 8:00 anyhow. We will have our own car and be parking in Universal's parking garage. If we showed up at 8:00 would they seat us earlier or send us away?

I've had it both ways. The first time we went to 'Ohana, we waited about 15 minutes after our ADR time because they didn't have a table available. Last year, we got there about 30 minutes before our ADR, intending to have a drink and got called early. I think it is just the luck of the draw.

The chances of being sat earlier than your adr decreases the later in the evening it gets. This is do to people being late, ressies changing and walk ups.
Remember the restaurant wants a packed house, so they pile people in if there is people wanting to get in. So the later in the evening, that "wiggle" room decreases or becomes non existant.
With Ohana it is a very popular place, so you have to keep that in mind.

Since this is your Universal day and that park closes at 8pm, if you left right at closing, got to your car, drove, found a place to park at Poly and into the building you will be pushing your ressie as is.

Even though the drive isn't that bad, remember masses of people will be leaving at that time and the traffic leaving the park can be a mess.

8:40 isn't that late. I don't eat that late but many of my friends eat around there, so if you are not totally objected to eating that late, make it a long day with a couple extra snacks in it to tied you over. JMO

What time is Wishes that night? The closer to Wishes it gets the longer people tend to linger. We eaten there plenty of times after 8 and it was great.

I agree with you that it will probably take a while to get out of Universal at closing time.

Maybe you'll be able to catch Wishes as you wait for your reservations depending on what time it is being shown during your stay. We made late reservations on purpose for our upcoming trip just for that reason. It was really beautiful watching the fireworks the last time we dined there a few years ago.

Wishes that night is at 10:00, which is part of the reason that I wanted a 7:30 - 8:00 or so ADR. Back when I was booking my ADRs on Oct. 27th, I tried for an ADR for that night and couldn't get anything in that time period, even though I got right through on the phone lines at 7:00 a.m.. I thought I'd scored when I switched my request to the Friday night that week and got one for 6:20, only to realize after the fact that there's no Wishes that night due to Grad Nights. My husband really doesn't want the 8:40 cuz he's afraid we won't be seated until 9:00 and that's too late (for him to eat). So, thanks for all your help but I had to let go of that ADR on Tuesday, April 20th for 8:40 (perhaps it will make someone else's day)....I'm going to keep trying to see if I can get one for 8:00 that night as we get closer and perhaps people cancel duplicates. I would hope with Islands of Adventure closing at 7:00 that we could get through the parking garage and to Ohana for an 8:00...although if HP opens, all bets are off!

We had a big problem getting seated here last May. We came early hoping to get seated early. We weren't seated until an hour past our ADR time. There were four of us and they just kept saying that they didn't have a table available for four. This is the only restaurant we had a problem with our entire trip.

That in a strange way, makes me feel better about giving up the 8:40. If we had to wait an hour (there are 4 of us too) then 9:40 would be REALLY too late to eat that much food. I guess I have to admit it, that my DH was probably right to let that ADR go!
