I haven't tried that one, but I feel your pain for sure. I saw that there was free stuff on the Red Box app and I suggested we watch some movie on that not long ago. OMG there were SO MANY ads. It got really annoying.
Yeah, the free services are going to have ads, though my parents were watching a show on Freevee I think and they were saying that the ad breaks would come just like right in the middle of a conversation. That seemed weird, but that same show is on D+ so I told them to watch it there - no ads! You would think the ads would come at the typical commercial break times since this is an old show that aired on network television.
I've been running a Plex server for years but have not one time ever watched their free content. I assume it's similar to Pluto. We watch the This Old House channel on Pluto and they will cut to ads mid-sentence -- I assume it's just on a timer and is not content-aware.

While I agree that's very disruptive, in order for the ads to show up at the "right" locations, there's a file somewhere that shows when the breaks are supposed to air, and for how long. Maybe Freevee didn't get that file, so it's using a "generic" timing sheet?
I don't use Plex for their streaming service - but I do use it for my media server and its pretty good IMO.
I'm fine with the ads for free streaming - I think ultimately all streaming will have some adds or you will pay an exorbitant amount of money to not have ads - seems like Disney+ wants everyone to get the version with adds based on its pricing - like $1.99 for three months and no deal on the ad free version.
Same with hulu - they never seem to have deals on the ad free version - but you can get the ad supported version for like $1 a month on black friday
The issue I have with it is the repetitive, low budget ads that are beyond annoying and played at every single break
Also the never-ending adds for Liberty Mutual
Lastly is the lack of well timed breaks as a PP noted
I am not complaining about the adverts per se; Plex need an income. But what hits home is WHEN the adverts pop up! Every time there's a huge plot twist... ADVERT!
