Oh My Gosh What am I thinking! Journey to the Princess Half Marathon Feb 2011 PTR

Love your training plan, Lindsay! You and Kathy are much more creative than I am! :rotfl:

Good luck with your turkey trot on Thursday -- I know you will rock it! :rockband:

Fantastic job on your weight loss to date! I completely understand about being busy and the difficulty of trying to stay on a specific schedule with your training. I also have a dh and 2 ds and work full-time… it is a wonder I get anything done! I'm lucky to have a very helpful/involved husband.
Good Luck with your Turkey Trot!

Today was the Turkey Trot 5K!

It was not the most organized race that I participated in but it was a nice course. A bit hilly and very very cold. It was only in the low 30's and extremely windy.

Im not sure of my actual gun time....I probably was a minute or so behind the first racers. My watch said 35:37:banana: Ive come a long way since my race in april that I completed in 45min.

Here is the link to the race photo of me....not pretty but I thought I would post it anyway. You know I am going to give you the good, the bad, and the ugly for this pre-trip report!

This also signifies the ending of week 1 of my princess training plan.:dance3: 1 week down and 13 to go.

Awesome job on your Turkey Trot!:yay: I didn't do any races this weekend, but I did my 3 mile run on Friday, and a little over 5 yesterday. I'm just happy I didn't give into the temptation to veg out on the couch. I ran the 3 miles in a little over 30 min, and did the long run at around an 11:30min pace, which is good for me on a long run. I chatted with my cousin's wife throughout the run and felt like I could have easily gone another couple of miles. It gives me hope that I'll be ready for the Princess. I'm going to run 7 this Sunday. That will be my longest run to date. Can't believe it is just 3 months away!

Great job on getting your runs in. Even with the running I did this weekend I managed to gain back a couple lbs.:scared1: Not too happy about the food choices I made this weekend. But Im sure it will come off fast.

What training plan are you following???

Don’t worry at all about the extra lbs. My thought is, hey, treats are available that I only get at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Why not indulge a little? I know different diet programs/advice I’ve followed talk about strategies for making it through the holidays, but I don’t want to just make it through without gaining. I want to enjoy my treats! Like you said – it should come off fast with all of the running we’re doing. I did cut back on my portions… just a thin slice of the pecan pie and carrot cake… and only a couple pieces of chocolate bark! Yum!
I’m following the Galloway training plan from the Princess website. The one that says the goal is to finish in the upright position. I figure it is my first half, so I’m not getting too specific in my goals. I’d like to keep a pace around 12 – 12:30 min/mile. Since my longest run so far has only been 6 miles, I’m still not sure how realistic that goal is. I guess I’ll nail it down as we get closer. My week is:
Sunday – Long run
Mon – Hip Hop Hustle class (I look like a fool, but it is a nice little bit of cardio/fun/low impact)
Tue – Run for 30 min on gym treadmill during lunch hour
Wed – Total Strength class (total body workout with hand weights, bands, bosu, ball – killer!)
Thu – Run for 30 min on gym treadmill during lunch hour
Fri – Rest
Sat – Rest
It is kind of tough sometimes with my job. For example, this week I’m not going to be able to run on Thurs, because I’m going to be meeting all day. Then as soon as my meeting is over, I have to drive straight to the airport to fly to Pittsburgh for a meeting first thing Friday morning. I would just do a workout in the hotel, but I’m not going to get to the hotel until around 10:00pm. I don’t see me hitting a hotel gym for a 30 minute run that late at night. My flight gets in on Friday around 5:30pm, so maybe I’ll go straight to the gym for a run before driving home???? It’ll be too dark to run outside, but I hate not going home to my guys.:confused3
What are you doing for your training?

My official gun time from saturdays race was 36:32. I know it was actually a bit faster if they would of used a chip time since it took me a bit to even get to the start. Either way it still was a PR for me.

Belle- I am doing the Marathoning for Mortals Run/Walk plan. The farthest I have gone so far was 7 miles and that was during labor day weekend so its been awhile. I too am just going to finish and not worrying to much about my time. Especially with all the characters and entertainment along the way. I really want to try to take it all in. I feel ya about the job getting in the way of the training. You have it even harder then me at least I am in one place. I think if we miss a short run here or there it wont be horrible as long as we get our long runs in and the short runs in as much as possible.

Congrats on the 5k Turkey Trot! :cool1: I think you look great in your picture. My race photos all looked horrible. It really did a number on my confidence for a few days (I didn't think I looked that heavy). :(

I agree about enjoying the holidays. I didn't eat so well over the weekend either. I also didn't run. :sad2: But, I got back out there today. In my mind, it's not what we do a few days here and there. It's what we do most of the time that matters. :thumbsup2

:hourglass only 90 days to the princess half marathon. Not sure if I should cheer :yay: or if I should be nervous :scared:. I think right now I am feeling a little bit of both.

Hi Lindsay,

Followed your link here from the Team Mickey thread. You have done a great job with your training and you are going to do awesome at the Princess half!! A friend did that last year for her first half and she loved it, said the experience was great. I really like that distance, it really feels like an accomplishment. Someday I want to do a full marathon I'm just not sure when! That really takes commitment.

I'm looking forward to following along!

Karen

thanks karen. I have been neglecting this report a bit but with it getting close I will start posting again soon. I am very excited for the race. I thought about maybe someday trying a full, Im just not sure if I have the time to put into the training for it. It really is a time commitment.
