For the first time in forever there’ll be magic, there’ll be fun! ✨

Hi I’m Sam, the writer who hates doing intros. To keep it sweet and short, I love disney, grew up with it, did the DCP, became the AP holder and try to visit whenever possible.

The whole Fam made their way to Florida to celebrate Gma’s 82nd birthday

50631088652_5d5b0e791b_z.jpg

Ken (Chief Ken, PAB, Pa) - The one who never wanted to go to Disney until my mother took him and now he is always ready for a Disney trip.
Alicia (Alish) - The CM of the family who wants nothing more than to move back to Hong Kong and live there for the rest of her life
KC (Kiss) - The youngest child who is obsessed with Epcot and just wants the Space restaurant to open
Danielle (D) - The oldest who is obsessed with HM and Star Wars and is always booking solo trips
Ann (Anna, Ma) - The one who use to love Disney and now never wants to go to crowded parks
Liz (Gma, Gma Sliz) - The one who started this crazy disney family when her neighbor talked about the ghosts in HM, so she took her children there and stayed at Fort back in 73.

(And one thing you will learn is that I love to give people nicknames)

50630249538_167de454ee_z.jpg

Brittany (Buh-bangs) - Best friends since college, did the DCP together, she just gets my love for Disney and well as just me.
Joe - Brittany’s fiancé, fell in love while both working at Space. He just accepts mine and Brittany’s crazy friendship and has become great pals with Kiss.
They live 20 minutes from Disney so they are always ready to come play in the parks with us.

2020… what a year it had been so far. First I want to say I hope everyone is being safe because that is what truly matters.

2020 in a nutshell
- March visit Alish in Hong Kong Disney with a side quick trip to Shanghai Disney
Flights and Resorts were booked, Shanghai travel visa complete….. Canceled
- Hong Kong Disney lets workers go and sends Alish home.
At the beginning of the shutdown I got to watch my whole family quarantine while work considered me essential but all NYS regulations were thrown out the window so I had the joy of working open to close by myself with an over ratio classroom of toddlers. After the first week I was ready for a vacation
- July - Royal Caribbean Cruise, my summer vacation I desperately needed but canceled. My flights were for the day Disney reopened. Almost kept them and went, wish I did but the 2 week quarantine going into Florida from NY was the real deal breaker.
- July - Run Disney canceled the Wine and Dine half marathon - but Brittany asking when I was still coming down.
- August - Got on the CM Hub and was set to book a solo trip in Nov with that 60% off room discount thanks to Alish. That turned into a family vacation somehow and it was between OKW and Riviera, Riviera won.
- October - Erin pulls out of the trip because of the 2 week quarantine coming back from FL. I look forward to getting to quarantine for the first time during this pandemic just to find I’m being deemed essential when I get back.
NYS than changes traveling rules and I’m forced to get tested in Fl and NY, making Erin mad because she could have come, then plans to fly down a few days after to join (until her mom told her no)

When: November 12 - November 18
Where: Riviera and Contemporary
Why: Experience Disney in a pandemic… Gma’s Birthday

I'm In Disney and I Could Cry!

It was Thursday November 12th, a bright early morning. My alarm went off at 4:15am to get ready to go to my favorite place. We headed to the airport at 4:45 and the airport was a great experience, it was completely dead so it was a breeze to get through security. When we got to the gate they had every other seat taped off and any way to make me not be by a stranger even if we weren’t in a pandemic is a thumbs up from me. While we were waiting to board there was an announcement saying that there was a good chance our flight was going to be delayed. We all assumed it was because of the hurricane storm rolling through Orlando but however they were just waiting for maintenance. Luckily however they got everything taken care of so there was no delay.

How is a flight during a pandemic? Totally fine! Going southwest they boarded only 10 people at a time and each middle seat had to be left open unless you were a party of 3. Again love not sitting by strangers….also love getting my own row to sleep. And with that being said I slept most of the flight and watched Tangled.

What we do miss however is the luggage transfer through magical express. We had to go down the A side to get our bags just to go up and over to Side B to catch the Magical express. It was a dead morning in MCO which was super strange. But when they do plan for a bigger crowds they have markers where to stand to keep your distance.

we waited for our bus and Gma got her first ride of the trip, the wheelchair lift. And lucky for her it was splash mountain inspired today…as we had to ride it in the rain. Like all transportation found on property the bus driver told us which rows to sit in.

As soon as we passed by International drive I knew we were close. RIP to the old CP housing complexes as no future CPs (whenever that may be) will ever have the choice of which one they want to stay in as they finish up the brand new huge complex near DAK.

As we got passed until the famous Disney arch Alish texted me saying that she was headed over to the resort. And as we pulled in there she was at the gate.
The Birthday Queen herself

The room wasn’t ready and since we were now in charge of our bags the first stop was to put them in storage.
First thought on the Riviera - the building itself is HUGE! the lobby is super small with a tiny gift shop. With that being said we decided to check out the QS because we were all starving marvins. Back when we were on the ME I reminded everyone that you need to use mobile order to get food at QS now, but that went right out the door when we got there. The CM was nice enough to let us sit inside for the 5 mins before the breakfast menu switched over to lunch. Again huge resort, limited seating. Then add half the dining blocked off to social distance. We managed to find a two tables somewhat close and ordered some lunch.

I got the Croque monsieur because you can't go wrong with ham and cheese…with more cheese. The cheese on top could have been more melted but overall I really enjoyed this.

50625388182_234b877477_z.jpg

Kiss and Alish decided to go halfsies on the kids meal pizza, because they also had tacos Kiss brought down with her plus a donut that I brought down for her a Brittany.

50624540173_f0b5c50f2b_z.jpg

Mobile ordering is super easy, you can pre order and than once you arrive you just click that you are there and your order goes through.
Danielle decided to get the Croque monsieur as well as the star wars refillable mug. I was tempted but then I saw the price.

50625287841_dde00f0bbd_z.jpg

After lunch there was still no word about the room being ready so all the siblings decided to take a quick trip to publics to grab a few things for our stay. The quick trip turned into a longer one than planned. First we needed to grab a cake for Gma’s birthday tomorrow, followed by a few snacks thrown into the cart and then we stocked up on way to many cases of seltzers, but the buy one get one sold us. The cart alcohol made up look like alcoholics but when you add in a cake it looks like its for a party right?

After the store we headed to Alish’s house because she forgot to grab her guest passes. She ran in real quick to get them but came out saying she had no clue where they are. So we all headed in to try to find them. She threw me a stack of papers to look through…and there they were. While we were all hiding out in her room from her roommates Danielle noticed all the pictures I painted for Alish and thats when Alish made a sassy comment about how I never made her a Moana one, little did she know I did and brought it down with me.

With the guest passes found we headed back to the Riviera.

50630275318_b501e2bdce_z.jpg

When we arrived we still didn’t have a room so we found the rents out on a balcony right off of the lobby. The boredom clearly setting in when we all hoped for a sunny day to lay by the pool.

With the rain stopping us children decided to walk around the grounds just because we had nothing better to do.

The resort grounds is beautiful, they have a fire pit near the water, a whole separate grass area with loungers for the movie night, two nice pools and a whole beach area. Plus the view of Caribbean beach on the other side of the water was super nice.
We walked until we got to the beach area where we claimed some super comfy loungers, we all ended up falling asleep. The only thing that woke us up was the rain drops making us run back inside for shelter.

50631118717_ae31e71a00.jpg

So because of the rain we had to make ourselves comfy in the lobby. The couches aren’t the greatest and at this point I was just restless. I kept checking the app multiple times in hope that the room number would pop up, it never did. I ended up taking another quick nap when I was startled awake with Alish saying our room was ready around 3.
We rounded the troops and headed up to see our huge 2 bedroom villa.

Yay ! Sam is back! Can't wait for more

Welcome to My Crib

Our room was ready by 3 and we had plans to leave around 4:30 to head to Disney Springs for dinner. That left us a good amount of time to freak out over the room, get settled and get ready for the night.

Welcome to a 2 bedroom villa at the Riviera

50639661442_6807cdd2c3.jpg

When you first walk in there is a little hallway that leads to bedrooms. To the left was the “kids” bedroom, straight ahead was the kitchen living space, and to the right was the master bedroom.

The kitchen is stocked with everything you could ever need, fridge, oven, stove.

50639662687_23893c85bb.jpg

Danielle made it very aware that she wanted the little trundle bed before we arrived, even with the knowledge of one of them falling off the wall when the resort opened.

50638830103_b1f1bef3b1.jpg

Gma got the murphy bed in the living room

50638842668_548df9cb81.jpg

The thing I liked about this bed was the hidden shelves that also had outlets to charge your phone overnight

50638842673_85524e1dcd.jpg

Onto the kids side of the villa where Alish kiss and I lived for the 4 nights

50639662557_b55c09404e.jpg

The thing I loved the most was the split bathroom and having 2 showers. This was a beautiful thing and we weren’t all waiting for one shower.

50638831848_9f9cdec607.jpg

50639661687_5c1df2b560.jpg

We had a nice size closest with a mirror and then we had our own patio (the master and living space shared another one)

50639577496_7e304e2c58.jpg

The beds I wish were nicer, I feel like I’ve slept in better beds on Disney property, this might also be because these haven't been used that much. But the plus side, with all the new updated rooms they have plugs and outlets on each side of the bed as well as smart TVs so you can stream off your phone. We did this a lot a night to watch Netflix.
50638832128_0289d478bb.jpg

Now on the whole other side of the villa you will find the master bedroom. Entering from the living space you will find a nice king size bed. It also a small walk in closest that had an automatic light and built in shelves.

50639577231_0efe9cbf26.jpg

The sliding doors than led you to their split bathroom, the first room had the big jetted tub and a sink. Then with another sliding door led you too the walk in shower, toilet and sink. That door than led into the front hallway.

50639578236_e332a88ca5.jpg

Not pictured, in the hallway they had a huge closest with a washer, dryer, ironing board and space to put luggage.

The room itself was beautiful, the size was great because we weren’t all on top of each other. However the normal rate for this room would not be worth it. I am forever grateful to have Alish and her CM discount because I never thought I would be staying at this resort any time soon let alone a 2 bedroom villa.

After running around checking out our new crib our first step was to go get all the groceries from Alish’s car. This included all the cases of seltzers, 2 cases of water, a box of donuts, a bag of snacks, cake and Gma’s cane

50638831038_015e686071.jpg

The fridge became nice and stocked. We were excited to try the new holiday edition bud light seltzers so we each picked a flavor and put it in the freezer while we unpacked.

50638831553_a1cb3fa896.jpg

Christmas came early as its easier to pack it with me than pay for shipping to get it to Alish. She asked if she should open it now or wait…she ended up opening it up then and there.
She freaked out when she realized I did actual in fact paint her the moana to add to her princess wall at home and then I also got the moana race shirt for her.

50645889428_420c9a3be2.jpg

I was so excited when I found the shirt because back in September I was out for a run when Alish texted me saying she was in the longest line for Cast Connections. It was the first day it reopened and she was hoping to get rundisney things from the princess run. She waited a solid 2 hours to get in and there was nothing from the Princess run, she was kind enough to pick me up a few things so I’m glad she finally got her moana shirt.

First she got me a onesie. My ever growing collection but this just might be my favorite. I would be lying if I said I haven't lived in it since I got home. I thought I wouldn't like it because it had short sleeves but its the complete opposite I don’t overheat. So this gets a 10 out of 10 from me. Plus $20 for a $70 onesie seems like a great steal.
50639577596_8a59f72298.jpg

But the thing I was most looking forward to was the half marathon long sleeve she got me. I was really upset when they announced that the wine and dine half marathon was canceled. Because of Covid and nothing to do I got into the whole running scene, it became therapeutic to just go out and blast my music, 2-3 miles seemed like nothing so I would go out and run 5-7 miles almost daily it seemed. I had no intentions of running 13.1 miles, nor was I going to pay the price for Disney to send me a medal. However it changed when Alish found the shirt because I knew if I got it I would have to do the run, so the weekend of when the half would be I ran those 13.1 miles. It was definitely an experience, there were no fireworks no characters to meet, but I got it done and my body was broken for the few days afterwards.

So here’s to 2020 and completing my first half marathon. My goal is to tackle the two course challenge next year but we shall see!

50638832063_efbfe235d5.jpg

We got changed and ready. And then it was time to try the holiday seltzer. The pack comes with four flavors
Ginger Snap - Love gingerbread was worried though. Ended up being my favorite and I believe I was the only one to drink these
Cranberry - the safest flavor of the pack
Apple crisp - tastes like an apple pie…everyone went for this one.
Peppermint - the worst one in my opinion, peppermint patty in liquid bubbly form.

50639577931_1f36b4f04b.jpg

50639578111_f29474a521.jpg

Gma had a long stressful day traveling so she decided to stay in for the night while we headed to dinner at Disney Springs.

50639661642_b64e0339fe.jpg

And like that we were off to visit my home!

A Night At Disney Springs

Disney has a lot of things that have changed during this pandemic, I don’t feel like anything has changed it for the worse but there are a lot of differences going to the park now compared to a year ago. That was one of the reasons I was so excited to come, to see how weird it was. I’ve become so accustom to a routine of how I tackle a disney vacation that the change was nice in a way.
One of these changes is being told where to sit on the bus. They have seats sectioned off and numbered. This is actually something I enjoy a lot. No more squishing into a seat next to strangers and being crammed in like sardines.

50661071042_59dcbf228a.jpg

Before you can walk into springs itself you enter the temperature check line. And even with all the busses getting dropped off at the same spot, there was not a line at all to get in.
Once getting in we were greeted by the christmas tree and it didn’t take long for my mother telling us to go stand in front of it. I guess I couldn’t be made because this is the first time in 8 years that she will have a picture of all her kids in one place in front of a christmas tree.

50661071867_20c0c1f695.jpg

When we tried to figure out what to do before dinner Joe appeared out of no where. He headed to springs straight from work so we were still waiting for Brittany and her mom. While we waited we headed to Enzo’s hideaway bar to see if we had to make a reservation to just get a spot at the bar itself.
Our main plan was to drink around Disney Springs because I wasn’t willing to pay the ticket price to get into Epcot just to spend more money on drinking around the world like Kiss wanted to do. So because of that he asked if we could drink at Springs and I was willing to compromise.
Enzo’s said no waiting list just come and they should have a spot. So we headed over to Raglan Road to wait. (This is the point where I became awful at taking pictures and just was living in the moment apparently)

When I saw Brittany heading our way I was so glad to see her and not just because it felt like forever. But she was going through life things a few days before I came down, leaving me anxious after her mother getting a hold of me saying she was in florida, so I knew it was serious. I’m super thankful everything turned out to be ok and it was nice having her mother join us since I feel like it has been forever since I saw her.

Tonight was dinner at Raglan Road, we had 2 different table, and I felt like my family got in and out super fast. Me and Alish ate with Brittany and her fam. We were put in the back room which kind of stunk because I am never in the main room to watch the entertainment. I went with the classic bangers and mash which was great, I ate every single bite. And then coming here I knew I needed the bread pudding, I love the bread pudding at ohana but this one just hits different.

Our dinner took way longer than planned, we weren’t even done with our entrees when Ma came over to say they were done and were going to head back to the resort to get back to Gma. Both Kiss and Danielle waited outside and I kept telling them to go off and do something because we still had dessert. They waited though, and we tried as quickly as we could to get through our meal.

Once we were done we all headed over to the disney lifestyles store over on the west side. Here they were limiting how many guests were in the store and with it being so small we were expecting to have to wait a bit but it was probably a 5 min wait. This was the first store of many so I had to remember that…although I wish I went crazy in that store. Coming down I knew I wanted 2 specific things the magic kingdom lounge fly backpack with big al on it and the hades spirit jersey. They had both in this store but I waited to go to WOD (this will be my mistake for the night)

We then headed over to the market place and got in the longest line ever for WOD. They said 20 mins but it was super long, it started at Basin behind all the buildings where the old parking lot was to the Co Op and looped back towards WOD. We stood in the same spot without moving for about 8ish minutes and then we just kept walking and walking. They seemed to open up a different entrance and let in a good amount of us.

50660980591_bf84faf7a1.jpg

50661071332_57cf2ef594.jpg

The door led us to right where Alish wanted to be, she grabbed herself the big foot Pua. We all spilt up because as what Brittany told her mom “I always manage to find Sam at some point”
My dilemma, no MK lounge fly was found but I did find the baby yoda one and I stood there trying to figure out which one I wanted. Baby Yoda was winning until Danielle came running over with a the MK one with a Big Al on the front saying “This was the only one on the shelf” and Alish saying its a sign. So that bag one. I also grabbed a fuzzy zip up jacket, a christmas mask and the white minnie ears and then thanked Alish for her CM 50% off.

After our crazy time at WOD we decided to wait outside for Alish to let others come into the store. We all seemed to have crashed, it seemed like everyone was crabby and needed to sleep. I knew the boys wanted to drink, Brittany’s mom wanted to go to the Christmas store. So we made the plan of christmas store and then head back to Enzo’s

We lost Danielle to the Co Op, the christmas store had a line, so Kiss and I headed to the sign because I always seem to need a picture with it.

50660980106_daee1f8859.jpg

Picture this: It’s 2016, your DCP is almost coming to an end. You clock in at DTD and pray you aren’t zone 11 because you don’t want to have to deal with code v calls. The christmas music loop is making you wish you were home for christmas so instead you listen to Taylor Swifts 1989 album on repeat (and now whenever you listen to that album it just takes you back), life is easy, life is great. end scene.

Our mistake was coming to take this picture because we had to walk back around the once upon a toy to get let back in, meaning temperature check. Once we were clear we waited outside of the christmas shop for everyone. Then we headed to the Co-op to grab Danielle. Tonight was all about getting our steps in apparently because we were once again off to the other side and back to Enzo’s.

When we got there we were told there wasn’t enough seats for everyone, so clearly we were bummed and cranky from the lack of sleep. We decided to call it a night, Brittany, Joe and mom headed home, while Kiss and Alish wanted to grab a slice of pizza (even though we just finished dinner)

What else to add to this night that didn’t go as planned? The pizza slice stand was closed. In order to try to make this night end on a happy note I asked if the 4 of us should go to Enzo’s. This was the only thing Kiss had asked to do and if we didn’t I would feel bad. So we headed back and when we did they had a high top that we could all sit at. Perfect!

50660981221_a8ffe0a6f0.jpg

50661071742_d62ca9960a.jpg

The drinks fit the Prohibition-era 1920s speakeasy-vibe. So be prepared for some small strong drinks.
I went with the Limoncello Gimlet – Monkey 47 Gin, Caravella Limoncello, Simple Syrup, Thyme
Kiss got the Strawberry Fields – Bulleit Bourbon, Fernet Branca, Strawberry Syrup, Lemon, Ginger, Cucumber

50661072052_2dee8c43c5.jpg

In the long run we were glad we tried it but it isn’t on our must do every time we come.
But before we left Springs for good, Pizza was still on Kiss and Alishs mind so we headed over to Blaze.

50660980766_bf8966be91.jpg

When we headed to the bus stop the clock hit 10 and all the stores were locking up shop. It was a hectic night so we didn’t get to go in search of all the trees, however there was a star wars one on the way out.

50660250238_500faf3b8b.jpg

The busses always seem to not be in your favor at the end of the night. Every other resort bus will show up but yours. Its never fun but it was a good time to add up all the money I owed Alish so I didn’t forget. The bus finally came and luckily the Riviera is right down the road. When we got back I headed to Alish’s car with her to grab a phone charger. When we headed back to the room we followed the pictures on the wall to find our right location (if you’ve been on a cruise you might know art work always helps to remind you which way to turn and where you are) We all have way to many magic bands linked so a bunch of ours didn’t work with the door, so when Alish’s didn’t work it didn’t faze us. So I pulled out the one that I knew worked and it turned red. Thats when I noticed we were at the wrong room and the wrong floor. Instant panic, I backed away slowly and then ran to the elevator laughing, only us.

We managed to find the right floor and the same snow white picture (so it’s not like a cruise) and made it home safely. We all got our stuff ready for an early morning at DAK and I joked saying “I did something bad I cracked open a cold one” I have never seen all my siblings run into the room or whip their head to look at me so fast thinking we were partying in the room. Just a joke I needed sleep! And thats exactly what I did!

What a great first night! We always start our trips with Downtown Disney first. I know it's Disney Springs now but it will always be Downtown Disney to me. 8-)
Your accommodations are beautiful. I haven't been to that hotel yet but it looks fabulous. I had to laugh at y'all being at the wrong door and the wrong floor. Maybe it was the alcohol. :drinking1
Oh and the onesie, adorable!

Oh and the onesie, adorable!

Forever downtown disney!!!
We questioned ourselves because our room started with an 8 so we changed the floor to 8 when really it was the 6th floor.

Following!
Welcome along!

Sivako!

Happy Birthday Gma!!!! It was a lovely morning for the birthday girl, we all were up before 6am to get to DAK by 7. Nothing says lets go run around a park bright and early for your birthday. Well that sounds nice to me, Gma on the other hand didn’t really have the need for that. However Pa has yet to experience Pandora and with Alish being able to get him, Ma and Gma for free how could you say no?! Then add on the ever changing hours for the parks and we were left with a bright and early morning to do the Pandora 5K.

Somehow this family of 7 was up, ready and out to the bus stop by 6:20 and as everyone said “Sam told us to the bus stop at 6:15” I did but I also gave them the 15 min leeway and really planned to be there by 6:30.

50672615981_2d2fec8a1e.jpg

The bus showed up shortly after us getting there and we were off to DAK. It was a bit brisk this morning and thats always a great change to a normal sweaty hot day in DAK. It was our first experience with the new park entrance procedures. First the temperature check, this was breeze there was no one at 6:50am. But what I truly love is the new bag check, so efficient. They are now more high tech metal detectors basically so you just keep the line moving when walking through.

50672698377_9591229171.jpg

50671863688_3f796f203c.jpg

The Pandora 5k is no longer a thing during these covid times. It’s truly a blessing in disguise. While I do get the joy from watching all the people awkwardly jog walk to get to pandora “faster” being let in right away before park opening was super nice. Then not being stopped right at the entrance and being smushed in like cattle was also a nice this.

This quick journey to Pandora is nothing new to me but for my parents it was a whole new experience. The line for flight was not yet on the bridge to FotLK and with adding in 6 feet spaces the line was going to move quickly.

Once we got to the actual front of the line we places Gma in a nice spot to wait. Kiss told her she would wait with her since he has done this ride so many times already but she told him to go.

It was a good thing that Kiss decided to join us because we were for once going through the whole line. I’ve done this maybe twice other than that it was FP or we got there early where you bypassed the whole line and merged into the FP line.

As we walked through only half the rooms Kiss was now understanding why I never wanted to wait inside. While it is well themed its just so many rooms to wait in. Luckily our wait for the ride was just walking non stop through it.

Kiss towers over the whole family so we call him the avatar of the family. And today he finally got to see his avatar self floating.

This was our first park attraction during these strange times and it was just that a little bit strange. Markers are everywhere and when we were told which chamber we were going to be in there was just a sad solo rider with us. They had 2 dots on the floor and your party is placed on one. This time around we were not linked to an avatar and it wasn’t the full experience for the new riders aka ma and pa. However the real part of the attraction was a huge hit with them and my mother wanted it to be longer…don’t we all?

We found Gma where we left her and they wanted to do the river journey, I knew right away there was no way we were getting gma down into that boat. Danielle kept saying we could try but with someone who lives with Gma and knows what she does on a daily basis I was 100% sure it was a no go. Because of this Kiss and Alish decided to take her to starbucks while the others decided to go wait in line.

This wait was on 20 mins, truly longer than I would ever wait but they needed to experience it. The line here had become a game and a lot of people aren't playing by the rules. The markers are very clear on where to stand to keep you distance however with how the lines loop some of the rows are meant to be kept empty and have no markers placed there. This went over peoples heads and a lot of them started to just stand not on marks.

When our boat pulled up Ma right away agreed that there was no way we would have got Gma on and off easily. So we agreed that after this ride we would go to the safari so she could finally do something.

I warned them ahead of time that flight is the must do attraction in pandora and that the river journey may be a let down compared to it. Pa agreed but Ma seemed to love it as well.

As we were getting off I texted Alish saying that we would meet them over by the safari. And then she told me how they got yelled at by a CM. They forgot to put the mask back on Gma after starbucks so when she started scooting away without one a CM stopped them.

Africa was a dead zone but that probably also had to be because it was not even 8am at this point.

We found them waiting by the stage and Gma told us how they kept hearing banging coming from the building across the way. With a crowded park one might not here the odd background nose from the village setting they have but when no one is around you can hear the door banging.
