so after my school thread I've decided to go for the light side, have some fun and post an icky snake story.

Ho No, my life is not all school and aggravation. It's also a constant state of ick and walking on my tip toes. Day before yesterday DS announces "wait till I tell Mr R. that a snake came home in my backpack and traveled all the way from Maine in the back of his truck." Ummm, what do you mean a snake came home in your backpack and where is this snake now? Well, at some point during his camping this past weekend (Boyscouts - it's almost like the post office nothing stops an appointed camping trip not even a tropical storm) a snake crawled into one of the cracks, crevices or pockets in his backpack and given that there are many pockets and it was raining and sorta cold this is not entirely surprising. The snake (garter, per DS, so not poisonous) crawled out while he was unpacking his gear in the basement. He tried to catch it to put it outside but it crawled behind the trashcan and under the shopvac in DH work-shop. By the time he could move the stuff the snake was gone. Well, the snake hasn't been seen since but still :scared1: I get an creepy crawly feeling every time I go to the basement just dreading when it will turn up. :scared: This is not the first snake we've had in the basement and our house is older so maybe it's found a crack and gone outside on it's own (I'm really really hoping this the case). My biggest fear is that I'll step on it like I did the mouse the cat dragged home or I'll open the lid of the washer and it will be sleeping there. BTW the best part is I can't avoid the basement - it's walkout and since the front door is broken it's how we get to our driveway. :rolleyes1

Anyone else have a creepy crawly story they want to share?

I actually have two. The house we used to live in was pretty big, a contemporary two story with a balcony. I walked upstairs one day and looked at the end of the hallway and saw a little black snake. UPSTAIRS! I told my very young boys to watch him while I went and found a bucket and a broom. I came back with the equipment, and the boys and the snake are gone. I yelled to the boys "where is the snake?" and they replied, "we don't know". I guess he found the hole he came in from, but I was a nervous wreck walking around in the computer/office room right next to where he had been..every wire laying around looked just like him!

This one is a "boys will be boys" one like your story. I was driving through our subdivision and drove past a very brightly colored dead snake in the road. The (now older-8 and 10) boys and I got out and looked at him. We drove home and told Daddy (the American Crocodile Hunter-has to catch and hold every living thing in our yard.), so of course he wanted to go see it. He picked it up and brought it home. My sons played with that poor dead snake and carried it around the yard for two days ..until it started to smell. Then Daddy and the boys had a funeral for him in the back yard. Now two years later they want to dig him up and see his skeleton.

Boys....

I don't mind non poisonus snakes that don't surprise me. We have a few of them in our yard, lots of lizards, toads, tree frogs, skinks, and the occasional glass (legless) lizard which is very cool.
