Oh - give me strength and lots of it!! UPDATE: page 2

There is something about OA Ordeals and thunderstorms! My son's was in the middle of a huge storm and they finally had to pull all the boys into a shelter. They couldn't find my son in the dark. He was sleeping through the whole thing and without a tent it's hard to find a boy in a driving storm! LOL! They finally found him and took him to the safer area. I still laugh when I think of him sleeping without a tent in the rain and not waking up.

Pass on our congratulations to your son!

Pam, we've talked in the past on how our son's seem to have so much in common. Well, I have another one for you. My husband called tonight from camp to say that James was tapped out for OA tonight. If I read our troop calendar correctly he will go for his ordeal next month.

MerryPoppins,
That is too, too funny!!! Is this your DS who went on the Philmont Calvacade? DS is on the list for a 2004 Philmont Trek.

Kirby,
Tell him congratulations!! It is something how much the scouts of the patch exchange have so much in common. I think Liz's son is much like ours as well!

I have half an hour until I pick him up. It rained again last night, with thunder. I'll fill you all in when I get back!!
Pam

Yes, it's the same son who went to Philmont this summer.

Pam, I'm sure he did fine, but I bet he'll be glad to get where he can talk and be dry. Have you ever heard the song Scout Wetspers? I always thought this one was cute!

Scout Wetspers
(oh Tannenbaum)

Softly falls the rain today
As our campsite floats away
Silently, each Scout should ask
“Did I bring my scuba mask?
Have I tied the tent flaps down?
Learned to swim, so I won’t drown?
Have I done and will I try
Everything to keep me dry?”

And congratulations to both your sons, Pam and Kirby. It is indeed an honor and my son wears that sash with much pride.

Update:

Well, we're back home. He made it through his Ordeal and yes, Merry Poppins he was proudly wearing that OA Sash when I pulled into the parking lot!

When the storms hit Friday night they moved the Scouts to the Rife Range, so he had a platform and a roof over his head. He did get soaked doing his Community Service project on Saturday but eventually dried off. Made it through without talking and when it was time to finally eat last night, it was lasagna and he won't eat that so he had a couple of rolls. Again for breakfast it was sausage and eggs and he won't eat that either!

He did sleep out on the ground last night. He had a great time and was so happy to earn that sash!
Pam

Great stories here everyone and pass on my congratulations to your son, Pam. Very nice. :)

Pam,

My son and husband walked in a little while ago. James is very excited. He won't be able to do his ordeal until spring. All the fall ones are full.

I asked him what it was like not being able to talk last night and he told me that he was allowed to talk. Apparently someones mom complained and called it hazing. That takes away so much from the experience.

I'm glad your son made it through safely!
