Today was the day we had our backstage yuletide tour were they take all over Disney to see the decorations and tell you the how and why they are made. It all ends up inside the warehouse where they store and make it all by hand
(WOW is an understatement)
Well while at WDW we walked in and there are all these cameras and crews running around and would you not believe it next thing we hear is okay action and down comes the parade and your boy AKA Clay starts singing a Christmas song of some type and there he was and since they were filming they kinda just held him there in place for us to admire. It was awesome you should have been there.
Afterwards since we could not really see all the decorations because of the filming we were rushed into the utilidoor tunnels and as we got to the end coming down the elevators there he was again. Man we could not get rid of this guy. He was very nice signed some autographs and sang a little love song for Donna.
Okay okay on to the tour, man you want to talk about awesome its starts at Epcot and you got to all the big hotels. Then you end up inside WDW and you get to see to see how they put them up, then the whole thing ends up inside the Holiday Workshop were you can see where they make the decorations and how they set them up in mothballs for 5 years until needed.
Things I did not know
You can go to Disney stay at any resort and request a Christmas tree from WDW Florist Company. Its an artificial tree comes in 3 and 6 sizes Disney decorated and you get to keep it when you leave. Cost why its free of course . Ha ha ha ha ha dont even think about it, its not free it will cost you a pretty penny.
The new LED (Light emitting Diodes) trees use up 1/3 the amount of amps as the regular lighted trees and are twice as bright.
Most trees are used for about 5 years with the exception of the contemporary that has gone through almost twice that.
There are some 64,000 Poincianas throughout the park and when the seasons over they all get mulched.
Gary Senese will be appearing at candlelight on the 25 of December, and guess who will be there. Donna thats who.
All the trees are artificial, and most decorations are made years in advance then stored, until they are needed for use.
The holiday team consists of 20 very lucky people, they do it all from design, to manufacture, to installation, and none of them decorate their homes for Christmas.
All the glass, as well as plastic balls on the trees have the tops hot glued on, and are wired to the trees, to A keep on while transporting, and B keep sticky fingers souvenir hunter from taking them off the trees. But with all this they still end up loosing quite a bit of merchandise. That is why they have 5 years worth of replacement parts in case they are no longer made they can still be replaced.
I will take some pictures of all the trees around the parks tomorrow so you can all enjoy a Florida Christmas.
If you ever do one tour take this one, Im becoming a tour junkie, my next one is the Innovations tour I get to see all the techno stuff.
And if you do a tour ask for Marc or its Mark the man is a walking encyclopedia of Disney I dont think there anything he does not know. Hes funny witty informative and knows his stuff.
Disclaimer:
Hey Jojo Clay was there and we did hear him sing, but to see him you had to stand on top of 3000 screaming teenage girls and you only got to see his head, plus the walking tree trunks called security IE arms and chest no necks, would let you only get between 6000 of him.
