Oh boy. Just found out our mortgage went up $120

Not to belittle your problem, but last year our mortgage "adjusted" $800 a month. They had forgotten to charge us taxes for 18 months. So, it could be worse.

WOW $800....I thought ours was bad at going up $400 per month. Ours was due to our property taxes going up $4000.00 this past year:scared1:

It will be okay. However, saying things like we "need" entertainment and it's "only" $10 a month can get you into even more trouble. People don't need entertainment, they need food and shelter. And, every $10 can add up. You can get free books/movies at the library, play card games and/or board games. Just think, every $30 you can cut is one less dollar a day. Good luck!

Well, I know we don't absolutely need it, but I think it's something my family really wants and I don't think $10 is going to make much difference. Plus, there's not a library within walking distance (or near any grocery store or my dh's work), so it would cost more in gas to go there and back.

We're ok with keeping Netflix. If I thought we were in danger of not being able to pay mortgage, etc, I would absolutely cancel it.

Look into the head of household discount for your property tax. In NM we have it but never applied for it. We applied for it but it won't take effect until next year. We also had to do a "tax lightening" law suit against the county since our property taxes increase 150% in 2 years (our neighbors all saw only a 4% yearly increase- a judge found it unfair)! We just had our taxes lowered due to the law suit (it was for people who bought their homes between 2005 and 2010 here).

Call your home owners too. Maybe you can have it looked at and readjusted.

I feel your pain. It's so hard when you're trying and trying and everything is going up. The new increase in gas prices is going to throw the nation back into a bigger problem.:sad2:

Is this something you do when you file your taxes?

I just found this: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/KRS/132-00/810.PDF And I just read through it quickly, but it sounds like you have to be 65 or disabled?

Have you contacted your mortgage company for a modification. We went through the modification process last year and saved several hundred dollars a month.

You are one of the few. My sister has been trying to modify for 24 months, Chase gets her paper work, approves it, sends it to the underwriter they never get it. She has submitted 9 times.

In AZ, there was an article in the paper that only ONE person in the state has been helped by their bank. The rest have been denied and foreclosed.
