OGT or VGT on Magic? Never cruised before

Am looking at 4 night on Magic from Miami in April, myself and my 2 tweens. Getting on a Disney Cruise is a dream I’ve had for years. $500 difference between OGT and VGT. Considerations:

- Am anticipating me and one of the kids could be seasick at some point, but we’ve never cruised before
- Given it’s a short trip with 3 ports I figure we’ll be doing activities outside the cabin most of the time
- We can afford the higher price but if we love this cruise that money could go toward a future one

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks :-)

Well, of course, that's really going to be a personal choice. For us, we like the oceanview rooms on deck 2 on the Magic class ships.

That said, if you book an OGT it's possible you could still wind up with a verandah. Small chance, but still there.

I've only done one so far. I did VGT. It was also a small difference. I really enjoyed drinking my coffee in the mornings and spending my last hour awake at night on the verandah. One morning we started with a rainbow.

We have our next one booked, also VGT. This one was a $1,000 difference and I asked my wife about it and she instantly said "you really enjoyed the verandah, you should book the verandah." So that's what we're doing.

I don’t feel I need a veranda. Had on our first cruise and then just windows on the others. I enjoy being able to look out but like saving the money! There is plenty to do and plenty of ways to sit out in the ocean air outside of your room.

We always get ocean view cabins. The $500 could go towards some great excursions. We don't spend much time in the cabin, so don't see the need for a verandah.

Only one cruise yet so far here, but we were on the Magic, and did OGT. It was ~$500 difference, and though we would've loved a verandah, we decided we'd rather have that money to spend. We got assigned an oceanview room on deck 2 and looooooooved it. We were so happy. My wife did get seasick, so having access to the outside would've been nice, but we didn't have an issue going up to deck 4 to sit there or up to 9 or 10 to walk around some. I'd happily do oceanview again.

Just wanted to add about seasickness. We've gone on 5 cruises with another next month. I've gotten seasick on 2 of our cruises, when encounter rough seas. I always take bonine, start the day before we fly out. I've also used sea bands, not sure how well they help. On our last cruise whenever I started to feel icky I would get a piece of ginger candy. It helped tremendously. I bought some from Amazon, but just saw Wal-mart also sells it online. If you want to try ginger, it needs to be real ginger, not just ginger flavoring. I've gotten the brand Tummy Drops. It has a really strong ginger flavor, so I get the ginger-pear and ginger-peach ones.

What is 500 dollars to you? 500 dollars to some people its a lot to others it’s nothing.
Another way too look at it is how many hours after taxes will it take you to make 500 dollars. If you bring home 25 dollars an hour it will take you of course 20 hours of working to pay for the verandah instead of the port hole. It’s your vacation and your money enjoy. Your going on a very short cruise it will go by very fast. You said your kid or kids might get sick look into a cabin that is lower deck and in the middle of the ship. That is a port hole.
I been on 23 cruises. 22 on dcl and 19 of them cruises have been inside, 2 port holes and 2 verandahs. My first cruise was a verandah than I realized I didn’t need one. I will rather cruise more often. I’m not made out of money.
I don’t go on a cruise to spend extra time in my stateroom. I do what I have to do in my stateroom mainly the 5 things that starts with the letter S than get dress than get out of the room. Some people will tell you that the better stateroom you have the more time you will stay in your room. Once again I don’t go on a cruise to spend extra time in the room.

Thank you!

Booked OGT! Thanks everyone :-)

Just got off the Magic, and had an Oceanview room on the 2nd floor, between mid-ship elevators and front elevators. The boat rocked a fair amount, and I don't think I would've felt better being on a verrandah versus an Oceanview. The key, as people mentioned beforehand, is to take the seasickness medication hours, if not at least a day beforehand and continue to take it. Once you feel seasick, it is too late (it does not act instantaneously).

On another note, in our first Disney Cruise, we had an Oceanview on the Wonder on the 2nd floor, and didn't like it because we could feel the side thrusters. They woke us up in the morning during docking. Since then we've had Oceanview rooms on higher floors, Navigator Verrandahs, and Verrandahs. For this cruise, we were hesitant, but returned to a 2nd floor Oceanview room again. This time, we couldn't feel the side thrusters, and thorougly enjoyed the Oceanview room.

OH Yeah, on vacation -- never mind. :)
