Offsite Stay --Order Magic Bands for Teens?

Our last trip was before the Magic Bands came out. We are going for a quick budget-friendly trip in January and staying off-site (4 nights).

Just curious if you would order magic bands from disney store for 3 teenagers. I know they don't need them, not sure if teens think this is cool & something new or would it seem childish?

We are surprising them with the trip which is why I am asking here and not asking them!

They can't charge food/drink/gifts and can't use as a room key - but they would be able to use them for FP and Park entrance.. however its just a 4 day trip.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

My 13 year old and his BFF like having them for park entrance and FP+ for the convenience of not having to pull out their cards. My DS likes the special edition ones at the parks...maybe wait and see if they want them and which ones they might want?

Magic bands wouldn't be high on my list of options for allocating $ on a limited budget.

Don’t bother. While they are convient they are expensive and will be thrown in a drawer once you return home.

$12.99 each adds up quick for a short, tight budget trip. That's a quick service lunch or souvenir for each of them

I say skip the bands if:
-the kids will be touring with you all or most of the time
-the $40 spent on them means skipping something else you think they would really enjoy or remember

I say get them if:
-you are planning another trip in fairly near future
- the kids will be touring alone and losing the cards is a concern (although you can get inexpensive retractable holders for the cards on Amazon)
- the budget isn't that tight and the $40 feels worth the convenience of not taking out/keeping track of the cards a minimum of 4 times each day
