I'm torn between three hotels and I'd like suggestions from those who know better than I.

First choice - Del Sol Inn.
Pros: super close, stayed before so I get a great rate, free 'breakfast' no great but enough to get me to Jolly Holiday.
Cons: no pool.
Total price for me (in Canadian with exchange, parking and fees): $1630.26 (slightly cheaper if our friend doesn't come and we get a different room).

Next: Camelot Inn
Pros: super close, great reviews, pool, is in the military voucher program so could save $2/night
Cons: no breakfast included from what I can see online, construction next door?
Total price for me (in CAD with exchange, parking and fees): $1540.01 (taking into account the $40USD returned at check-out).

Third choice: Tropicana
Pros: super close, great reviews, pool, is in the military voucher program so could save $2/night or so
Cons: no breakfast included, construction next door? rooms little dated?
Total price for me (in CAD with exchange, etc): $1554.23

So they're all within $100 of each other but that $100 can be another souvenir or more Dole Whips!

So... where should we stay and if you have any strong feelings between one or the other, please say why!

When are you going? Doing DL in Mar to Oct with no pool is a deal breaker for me. The parks can get hot & nothing makes for as relaxing a break for my aching body than a pool.

Construction: ?? We'd love to know when that kicks off as well! No final approvals from the city that I've heard on the boards so no way to know when construction starts or how long it'll be.

Probably Tropicana since it's close, cheaper, and has a pool. Isn't it closer than Camelot? I would look to save the $100 unless you think you'll spend that much or more on breakfast if you don't get breakfast at the hotel. You could get some cereal, etc. to eat in your room. Are you looking at a lot of days and a lot of people? I didn't realize the Del Sol didn't have a pool.

I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who was going to come with us, but she may not now that her hubby has a thing she needs to attend while we're gone. If she comes, she'd share the cost of the room at the Del Sol and it would be substantial savings for us. If she doesn't, then I'm going to book the Tropicana just because well, yes, it's cheaper, and there's a pool. The Del Sol is great and all but I think for the kids, they'd be sad without a pool to splash in, especially since we're so close on Harbour that ducking back to the hotel for a couple hours wouldn't be a big problem for us.

I would also choose Tropicana. I have also stayed there 3 times and it was totally fine. I think all three are about on par in terms of rooms from what I've seen online. I stayed at Del Sol once and was not impressed. Even though Tropicana doesn't do breakfast, you can buy a box of donuts, pastries or granola bars, bring some fruit and get milk or coffee from their little store. Also, I think Tropicana has the best pool out of the three.

I am very surprised that the Del Sol costs more than the Tropicana. It my my last choice of the three you mentioned and it is my lowest-I'm-willing-to-go place. I pick Del Sol when it is much cheaper than better places that surround it. Since when does it not have a pool? It used to have a pool but it was not very good and we last stayed there on a trip when my son wasn't inclined to swim.

My first choice is sort of a tie between Camelot and the Tropicana because Tropicana looses a few points from me for how inconvenient the parking situation was for me last March. I kept want to access my car, or get something out of it and the valet was MIA. Then I would be done with my keys and want to give them back to the valet and he was MIA again. I spent a lot of time standing around waiting for the valet. I dont think is was his fault, im pretty sure he was on break and had to come off break to get my keys and then lock them back up again and dealing with me likely took up a bunch of his break a couple of time but it also made me late for a FP that I ended up not being able to use. I also had issues with another guest using my brand new car (had it for two weeks) for an ashtray. Not the hotels fault but I felt like it wouldnt have happened if I had been able to park in front of my room.

Camelot Is fine, but it always costs just a little bit more, its just a little bit farther, I like the room just a little bit less. I have stayed there a little less because of that. But in my opinion it is nicer than Del Sol and a better pick if it is also cheaper.

I always see these amazing deals people seem to get here, but I just can't find the same I guess. I called each hotel along Harbour where I wanted to stay and said the same thing - our dates, how many, and that we were military. Granted, the Del Sol is for the family room (the two queens and bunk beds) because of our friend who may be coming, but if she's not, I'm sure the price of a regular 2 queen room will be similar in price to the Camelot and Tropicana within $100 or so. And yes, TOTALLY my mistake, there is a pool - but it's so small I missed it when I was there last. The Del Sol's parking situation is kinda tight too iirc, and I'd hate to bug the valet at 6:30am when we need to leave for USH. Del Sol does have the least expensive parking option though.

I have gotten great deals here when they had a 3rd or 4th night free on GetAwayToday.com. If you have an AP it is a bit less helpful in finding deals since a lot of the rooms are package deals only but if you need tickets as well it very much worth it to check them out.

I can be a bit of a penny pincher when it comes to planning since I seem to always be figuring out in my head how many dole whips, souveniers, and churros every price difference is. 100 is my gas round trip plus 5 dole whips, or 4 dole whips, 5 churros, and 6 Tsum Tsum mini's-no way.

On the other hand if the extra space and beds would be the difference between a good nights sleep and a well recharged and energetic family or a cramped nights sleep with tired grouchy family...well thats money well spent.

Yes, I have to take into account a DD12 who just wants to run through DLR/DCA like it's her private resort, DD10 who loves Disney but hates walking, and DH who hates traveling, hates crowds, and would rather just stay home (although once he's there, he has a great time).

We are lucky enough to get great deals on tickets and such through the military, and we take advantage of those prices at every turn. Even though we're Canadian military, it's nice to be given a break in the USA, as we're not often able to get deals here. $100 for us is worth it too because it means we can get another treat in the park.
