Official Word on what to do if you have an EVEREST TRAIN CAR

I have just spoken with an official staff member in VMK and asked what should be done with these cars....

gosh, staff is very mean in that case. They used to let us get things b4 they came out. I think I know which staff member you asked, but I'm not going to announce it. Also, rumors are that if you have one of those cars, you will get banned from VMK, so I think -insert staff member name here- was trying to save us from being banned

Anyone who has mal on their list knows what staff member she talked to but thats besides the point im glad you asked mal and thank you very much for doing so. How ever in my experience that staff member has always been looking out for us vmk'ers and has always given people a heads up before firm action is taken. so i would take this as a heads up from the vmk staff sell now LOL.

He didn't give out codes...he gave out the actual cars. But in Karo's case the yeti game kept GIVING him the car codes. But VMK thought that he had hacked or changed the url's or somthing so he could get the codes.

But until the situation resolves let's listen to Mal's answer!

Renpener and daviedude, I happen to have Mal on my list, but I was there when she spoke with staff. You do not know who she spoke too, so I think it unfair to "assume".

Queen, you are so right! On my thread where I was looking for help since I had one of these chairs from Karo, there is more info and a post from Karo. I do believe him, despite not knowing him, based on his statements.

It is still kinda wierd how these people obtain these codes prior to their release; I guess VMK assumed they did it illeaglly.

I can't believe that they are taking such a hard line on this. Maybe some of the codes that were programmed in were wrong. Just like the the game for the purple doors. Everyone ended up with pink instead. Can't they just understand that this is their mistake and not ours?

Dont worry, I was totally lost too until today. Karo's post with his side of the story is somewhere on here, here is the link to that thread as posted by PurpleDuck: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1008705 Basically, Karo and someone else started getting codes for the Everest car (not supposed to come out until part 2 of game) instead of the pin b/c of a bug in the game. Like anyone else probably would, they thought "cool!" and started giving them out to people.

Well, vmk thought that they had somehow "hacked" into the game and "stolen" the codes Karo was banned for hacking (although only for one month, and a hacking ban is supposed to be lifetime). Rumors are that anyone with these cars will be banned, but who knows if that is true. All I know (as I learned last night when I got traded one...not from Karo...) is to not take them, and if someone tries to trade you one tell them they will get banned unless they sell it. Heck, it's 50 credits. It was a misunderstanding, a bug that VMK just assumed was hacking, because they seem to think that bugs don't really exist and the only ones they bother to fix are fun ones like the "bumper log" bug. (Just kidding, but you would think that as many bugs as there are in the vmk world, they would realize that this is THEIR mistake, and not blame Karo and the other guy for taking advantage of it). They had no way of knowing that it was "illegal" in the VMK world. That's the story as I know it!

You would think that by now they would have realized the mistake and reinstated Karo and schmoofy. Or at least come out with a statement. It is causing a bit of a massive chaos! lol

Thanks for the nice recap, no clue what was going on!, i saw someone with them and i was like how did they get that?! That person said from the game, well being with only macs i couldn't get it, and that was good that couldn't.
I truely feel bad for karo though. To lose an awesome player like that...
KARo hopefully they think that it was a total misunderstanding and you get to play again!

Anyways, so sorry about the ban on Karo! Wow! That totally blows my mind. Here's a guy just being nice and sharing his prizes with his VMK and DIS friends and he gets BANNED for that? Karo, I'm so sorry! You've been so helpful on this board to all of us! Hope this mess gets cleared up fast and you get an apology from VMK and get reinstated.

If you are given something you are not supposed to have. Say a grocery clerk gives you back an extra 20.00, do you keep it? Or do you tell them? If you take the 20.00 and buy pizza for your friends does that make it right?

Very good analogy. My guess is that we would hear many different answers to this. Each person has to live with the decions they make and my opinion is that all moral decisions, even very small and seemingly insignificant ones shape a persons character for good or not so good. I have no idea what happened with this whole everest car incident (and don't want to) but even setting that aside it shocks me sometimes to see the greed associated with this virtual stuff. It concerns me even more to think how that translates into someones rl when it comes to real things.
