Official Top Chef Las Vegas thread *Premieres 8/19*

Haha, I LOVE the brother's comment that "Kevin's food is what I do on my day off". Sorry, let me pause here ...

:lmao::rotfl2:

Hoo-boy, I'm back. If what Kevin does is too simple for Mr Cranky-pants and yet Kevin keeps WINNING, then KEVIN must be doing something RIGHT. Jealous much?
The other brother is a class act. (Sorry, I can't keep the two names straight.) And I picked up on something odd...I always thought, from the contestants' insert comments that Cranky-pants was shorter than the nice brother, but while I was watching this last episode I realized that (had to ask DD) Michael slumps and Bryan sits up straight! So in those interview/comment segments, the one looks like he's several inches shorter while the other looks *so* much taller. And better-looking. And nicer. And loves his family. Yeah, I guess it shows, I like Bryan a lot more :thumbsup2, both as a person and as a chef.

Here's my take on Jenn... She started out really hot. In the early episodes she came across as single-minded/*very* determined/slightly snotty but as time went on she seemed to lose her focus and just didn't cook as well. I think she got a pass in the latter episodes because her early efforts were so stellar.

From comments up-thread (something about "Finale Part 1") I think the Finale might be airing as two separate shows...does anybody know?

I noticed that on the show ... that the "farmer's market" looked totally staged.

FWIW, if you like beef and have a chance at trying Highland beef do it! We know a local farmer who raises Highland beef for our farmer's market. It is really great beef with a distinct flavor. Here is their website: http://www.fountainprairie.com/ and their beef was featured at the dinner I went to earlier this year that was cooked by Season 4 winner Stephanie Izard.

How cute is this? And it tastes good too!

oh my goodness! one of the homes near us (we live very ruraly) has a couple of cows that look like this-ds refers to it as 'the house of yaks':rotfl:

the farmer's market place looked staged to us too, and we are scratching our heads to figure out where they had the chefs get on the wine train. the place they showed them waiting at was'nt the normal place for passengers so we figured they set something up (and the production staff managed to avoid showing any of the many signs on private property along the route that read 'we hate the wine train':rotfl:).

i still read the newspaper back home so i checked to see if they did any articles on the show and they did run one-it talked about the filming going on and how they did one of the elimination filmings not in napa but healdsburg.

i am realy cheering kevin on-he is not only a phenominal chef, he seems to be a genuinly gracious and kind person. he strikes me as the kind of person that would be encouraging and mentoring as he continues on his career. the comments he makes about the other chefs has been complimentary, and he while he reccognizes it's a competition he's never lowered himself to making snarky comments or behaving in a childish manner (which seems to be par for the course with the 2 brothers who seem to feel that any compliment not directed personaly to one of them is to be interpreted as an opportunity to make a juvinile smirk or eye roll).

I have never seen Brian be mean or say cruel things to Keviin or anyone. In fact Brian helped Kevin out his one of his recipes explaining to him how to do it. Micheal on the other hand is a jerk.

I'd be happy for either Kevin or Brian to win. They are both gentlemen. I have the feeling, though, that if time weren't as short as it is in the challenges, that Brian would cook circles around Kevin. His stuff is just so much more complicated that he can't get them done completely in time.

If Michael wins, I'm boycotting Top Chef.

I'm a total Kevin fan! He's tried-and-true. Bryan seems to be the nicer of the V brothers, but there's still something not to be trusted. I'm rooting for Kevin, who would be the first non-culinary-school trained winner! He's self-taught, self-assured, and self-productive. He knows his stuff!

Oh, and - I'm not a Padma fan at all. Money-hungry, hair commercials, and preggers with no Baby Daddy. This makes her a non-role model! (Flirting with CJ big-time last season). Gail Simmons spends too much time trying to emphasize/de-emphasize flabby upper arms and de-emphasize bad, thin, hair. Tom is the only judge I respect - even though he's short. He knows what he's talking about, and I, personally, think he's tired of Top Chef. Unfortunately. He made the shows! Padma adds nothing. Gail never shows whole-body on commercials, like Padma does. Favorite Top Chef season was #2! Really hope that Kevin wins!! (And that Padma is no longer an entity on Top Chef)
Just my thoughts!

I'm not a fan of Padma either. I hope she doesn't come back next season. I really like the girl who hosted Top Chef Masters

I'm on the other side; I like Padma, and hated the girl on Top Chef Masters! (Missed Tom, too.)

I watched that, but can't remember who that girl was. Anybody?

Kelly Choi is the host of Bravo's Top Chef Masters show. Choi, a former Ford model, is the host of local NYC food show "Eat Out New York" and of "Secrets of New York".

I agree with you, I would have sent Michael home. Raw egg is downright disgusting but a Jen/Bryan/Kevin finale was probably not in the cards.

I have to say that I am a little tired of the producers attempts to create drama where none is necessary. I do not watch this shop to see two lesbian lovers compete to beat the rest of the challengers, to catch a glimpse of two people who are committed to different people get caught up in an affair or to watch two brothers take sibling rivalry to a new level. I watch TC for the cooking challenges. I do not like second guessing the judges decision. Now there is always a question for , is this part of the producers vision or is this who the judges really feel should go home?

Kevin for the win :cheer2:

I sooo agree with this. Jen oversalted and her technique was off because of the lack of fire, but this is two weeks in a row that Michael's food was off. I think they kept him so they could have a "brother against brother showdown." It does put the integrity of the decisions into doubt. :scratchin

I do think any of the four could have won. I would have been happy for any of them, except Michael winning. :p

I liked Jen at first. I would have voted for her as Fan Favorite, but with her losing confidence & focus like that, she became annoying. She was like the head cheerleader who never failed at anything before, and suddenly she had her first failure and didn't know how to pull herself back together. :sad2:

That's a cow? I never would have known.

I had to laugh when I saw this. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said, "I love animals. They taste really good."

:lmao:

It's begun!

On man, based on the choice of sous chefs alone. I'd say one person doesn't stand a chance. :(

What school cafeteria did Top Chef pull Preeti out of? :sad2:

Did anyone else catch how Kevin's sauce would have been ruined if Brian hadn't alerted him to it? I have to say, Brian is one class act.

Surprisingly...
Preeti Mistry

Okay, now that's a recipe I want to try - broccoli that's fried to taste like popcorn? Best of both worlds!

That's absolutely shocking. I noticed they didn't show her in the kitchen at all after her chef was complaining about her.

I wonder if she will be thrown under a bus and used as the excuse if that chef doesn't win? :scratchin

Yes, I want to know how that is done! :) Is a blow torch used to popcorn the broccoli?

I don't think this is a two-parter tonight. :happytv:

NOT HAPPY, not who I was pulling for.
