Official Top Chef Las Vegas thread *Premieres 8/19*

There does seem to be a very high level of talent this season, which should make things interesting.

The men really seem to have a lot of talent this season.

And the person who went home this episode...she totally seemed overwhelmed and unprepared for this competition (both episodes) and I was wondering how she even made it on the show.

I was glad to see the other chef go home last week -- her ears were nasty to look at...ew...she stretched out the skin in her ear holes. Blech. :crazy2:

I ate at Bryan Voltaggio's restaurant Volt last night. It was ok. Maybe a little too fancy for my liking.
It was restaurant week so here is the menu we got to choose from: http://www.voltrestaurant.com/pdf/RW Dinner8.09.pdf

Appetizers:
DBF - marvesta farm cold poached prawns jasmine rice, yellow doll watermelon, crystal lettuce - they came with the heads as decoration!:scared1:)

Me - cherry glen farm goat cheese ravioli lobster mushrooms, soybeans, flowering chives - It was better than I expected. I had never had goat cheese before.

Dinner:
Both - pineland farm beef flat iron summer creek farm yukon gold potatoes, tomatillos, whipped garlic, coriander - I'm not sure where the potatoes were. The beef was most excellent though.

Dessert:
Both - textures of chocolate milk chocolate ice cream, raw organic cocoa, white chocolate mousse, chocolate caramel - Awesome!

I had Kona coffee with mine and DBF had tea.

The service was really good. I was offered a shaw in case I was cold. I got a kick out of that.

All in all, I'm glad we went however, I have no real desire to go back. If I'm going to spend that much money on dinner I want a nice big filet and crab cakes!

I do wish him well in the compeition though.

I like the brothers. The piercings and tats dont bother me but the very hairy guy with the bushy beard does. I'm not a fan of hair in my food and that's all I can think about when I look at him.

Yay! I finally found this thread!

I was ready for Eve to go. Just her voice was annoying enough. Couple that with her bad cooking and I knew she wasn't long for this show.

The pierced girl could go next.

The men's dishes all looked so classy in the way they were served. The women didn't seem to think about presentation as much. Coupling food with shots had to be hard. That's not a normal thing to pair with food.

You're right about the marriage complaints. One lesbian on TC is not going to change the country's opinion on gay marriage. While I agree with her about the fairness, etc., there's a time and a place for this and not when you're on a cooking competition.

Normally I do not watch "Family Guy", however I just saw an episode where the dad had a huge beard and a bird living in it. That is the first thing I thought of when I saw him.:lmao:

And speaking of facial hair, it is interesting to me that they do not have to cover it.

The first time I ever saw Mario Batalli, I swore I would never eat at any of his restaurants. He was this huge, sweaty, hairy mess.

Well, never say never. Some of our friends wanted to try Del Posto, Mario's restaurant that he owns with Lydia Bastianich, so we agreed to go. I must say that it was the best meal I've ever had in my life. It was about 2 years ago and my DH and I still rave about that meal.

So, the moral of my story is that some of those hairy guys can really cook.

woohoo..LOVE this show! I think this might be one of the better groupings of chefs..with a few exceptions, everyone really seems to be able to throw down!! I really like the bearded softspoken guy ( of course i can't think of his name)..but he totally reminds me of the guy that plays Alan in the Hangover! hahahh!

I unfortunately think pierced lip girl is going to stay. She cries during the judging and that's drama for Bravo.

I can't stand that obnoxious chef who talks too much. Don't know his name. He's the one who thinks he's better than women simply becasue they are women. The show intersperses a lot of talking segments with him since he talks so much. Unfortunately, he seems to be a good chef, so he will be around. :headache:

Once, I had Wolfgang Puck's baby lamb chops from New Zealand with mint sauce. OMG! They were to die for. :faint:

Kevin. I really like him also. I'm picking him to win. The one female - Jen (?) is pretty annoying. She can really cook & she won $15k but her people skills are horrible. Which I know is common for chefs but its annoying to watch none the less.

At this point, I think it will be down to the two of them in the finals. I get a kick out of Jen so far. She's a strong woman who seems to get aggravated easily.

I agree. I LOVE Jennifer. She's my favorite.

Is it me, or does Ashley have REALLY pretty eyes? I mean, I just realized that. So random :rotfl:

Decent show, I agree with the eliminations. Hector blew it and knew he had to go home.

On the plus side it reminds me to let my meat rest before carving. ;)

How cool Kevin got to eat the food. How did you like his diplomatic answers to their questions? I think he is in the running for winning.:)

I love Kevin!!

I think Kevin, the two brothers and Jen will be the final four.

Two words... BACON JAM!!!

I have to get that recipe!! :cloud9:

I like Jen but think she is lacking SERIOUSLY in people skills but this is Top Chef not the Next Food Network Star. Several of the past winners were pretty yucky personalities but they made it work.

I still LOVE the brothers  Kevin may be talented but he takes some getting used to ... :scared:

Think about the advantage Kevin got listening to the comments as they ate.

I wonder how much French each of the them understood? It looked edited to me but maybe it wasn't? It did appear as if many people at the table understood French.
