Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

The Armed Forces Salute was released. Have a million quotes. Put Coronado on hold as I've never stayed there. Already wanting to swap out to a Port Orleans resort. Decisions, decisions.
you do realize that the black out time for this promotion is until April 23rd, so basically will do us no good for race weekend, at least ticket wise, room discounts may still be available.

ok, I just realized someone posted they did get the military discount for rooms, but to those of you who have stayed at SOG, how is it on a race weekend? it may be significantly cheaper to go that route since most of the race weekend is under prime season, so even with a discount, I'm looking t roughly $500 for SOG vs $700 for a value , but will need to take into consideration getting there from the airport vs magical express, so anyone who has stayed there want to add their experiences that would be great.

Found and LOVE and ewok hoodie (lightweight) and I usually like to run with something covering my head, but I'm not sure...
it would be too hot for me. Last year it was pretty warm once the sun came up. It's cute though.
I generally decorate a visor to match my costume. You could do ewok ears on a visor and it wouldn't be so hot.

After seeing the Light Side medals for Disneyland they released this morning, I'm officially concerned about the Dark Side medals. The 10K BB-8 medal is perfect. The 1/2 marathon medal might be okay depending on what the other side of the spinner is, and the Rebel Challenge medal is very disappointing, a major step down from the previous 2 years.

I'm with you 100% on this one. I'm glad that I have to wait til 2018 for my Kessel Run now. Last year's light side medals were better across the board, with the possible exception of the rubber 5k medal. I'm still holding out a very slender hope for the 2017 Dark Side races. I find out next week if I am in for the London a Marathon that weekend. Even if I don't, I'm supposed to help my wife chaperone a high school trip to Europe through the weekend before, so...

Aww BB-8! I actually thought they were ok medals! But then, I really just don't seem to care much about my medals after pictures are taken tbh. I have yet to be wowed enough by one. Though TOT was close! Dark Side has the best potential though! I would like to seem more new film influences this time around.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The Rebel Challenge is different, but it's just kind of flat to me. Hopefully Darkside will have more wow to them.

Totally agree. The challenge medal looks just...not as polished as the others. Absolutely love the BB-8 and Han/Leia medals. I'm going to call that challenge medal the C-3P-EW medal :( Really hoping they don't do something like that for our Dark side medals.

I'm totally unmoved my medals, as a rule: I'd be perfectly happy to pay a reduced cost of registration for no medal. BUT the inaugural Dark Side medals were flipping amazing! Well, okay, the challenge was a little weird, but the half and 10K were just beyond for this Star Wars geek. I agree the Light Side challenge medal looks awfully rough in the pic, but often medals look much better in person, so maybe there's hope? in any case, I wouldn't write off the Dark Side medals yet!

I stayed at SOG over PHM weekend once a couple of years ago, it was actually really great. We don't do the dining plan anyway, and that time had really enjoyed the bus not being packed. I will say they had just started doing buses to the races from there and it maybe was less crowded because ppl didn't realize they had the transportation option to the race.

For me that would mean being able to actually see details of C-3PO on the challenge medal such as his eyes, mouth, nose, etc. The photos make it look like it's just an outline of him with gold coloring. After the detail of the prior two challenge medals, this one is a huge step back. As it is, the challenge medal should not be the least detailed, including the plastic kids races medals of the group.

I don't care so much that they went away from the spinner. I don't care one bit that they used C-3PO. But the new challenge medal looks cheap compared to the other medals this year and even worse when compared to the detail of the prior 2 years. A non runner friend saw the pictures and described many of them as appearing to have come from a box of cracker jacks. The challenge medal better have a tremendous amount of detail not visible in the photos to salvage it.

It looked like the half medal was the spinner of the set to me. That is how they did the dark side too. The half was a spinner and the challenge was much simpler, death star maybe if I am remembering correctly?

I do think the 10k tie fighter was the best of the set!

I do realize this. Fortunately I have an AP so the ticket block outs aren't a concern for me. And I purposefully upgraded my pass so it was not blocked out during the Dark Side dates. I also have called and gotten quotes for the room discount so I know that it is available. Whether or not it's a better deal than SOG though for this peak season is a whole different story.

I have to admit that I agree about the Challenge medal. I was disappointed in it. For the amount we pay for the challenge I really expected to be wowed by it instead of underwhelmed.

Is anyone able to post a pic of the medals for the Light Side? I'm just curious to see them.

Thanks! I'm just linked in to this thread. I took a peek though and think they are all pretty cool. Now hoping the Dark Side does something with BB-8 as well. I love that little guy!

Probably not very likely unless BB-8 turns to the Dark Side very shortly. Hard to imagine, though. Kinda like an evil R2-D2!

True, forgot about the whole light/dark side thing. Oh well. Should I be changing my ideas about Disney bounding costumes too? Not real familiar with Star Wars in general even though I grew up when it all started. Just love to run for that bling!

Last year there were a good number of Light Side costumes, so I think you'll be OK there. The Dark Side costumed runners and the 501st Legion need someone to gang up on, anyway, right?
