and our Turkeys used our patio to hide from the thunderstorm. The Bullfrog tried to get in the room and the lizard critter thought it would be amusing to slip into the sliding glass door track and refuse to budge even when we wanted to close the door. The bunnies were fearless, the birds noisy and No alligators to be found, much to my profound disappointment.

That must have been funny. Chasing away the wildlife.
We saw an alligator in the pond on the right just as you start driving onto the drive to SOG (by the gazebo). We saw it the morning after we had walked back from the Luau at 10:00pm. We had been laughing about how full we were and wouldn't we make great meals for an alligator. Especially since we were so full that we could not run. I was so full that it hurt to laugh and BIL kept me laughing. Yep if only we had known that there really was an alligator there. That as the only time we saw him.

When it comes to transportation, we just roll with the punches and have an out at all times. We start out by deciding if we are on a time limit. If so and the buses are not available, we don't hesitate to either walk to POLY or request the golf cart. When options are available, sitting around and waiting just doesn't make sense.

......how much did you tip him?

We tipped the golf cart driver 2 bucks. No real math used to figure that one out. Doesn't matter if there is only one passenger or 4, the cart does the same amount of work. It was an easy tip. All he did was drive us to the end of the drive. No luggage involved, etc. If you only want to give $1, that would be fine too in my opinion.

We actually never saw the famous golfcart. I guess it is a hit or miss thing.

You probably won't see it out in the open. You have to go to where they load and unload your luggage and request it.

Other resorts won't deliver cakes to SOG, because it's not a Disney resort. SOG hosts weddings and other special events and they have a catering staff. They might be able to make a cake or let you know who can deliver one to SOG. Give them a call or email. I'm sure other people would appreciate knowing if this service is available, so could you let us know what you find out? :cake:

I was talking with a friend about possibly our two families hitting Disney (my DS and her DD are the best of friends, as the two of us are). Could we reserve a room for her at SOG when we go or is that strictly limited to family?

You can sponsor up to three rooms. You just have to be there to check them in with your ID. They can pay themselves though. Same goes for tickets. We've done it a few times. Have fun.

Does anyone know if SOG has Cake Delivery? Or if the other hotels will deliver to the SOG? There's an interesting thread in the restaurant forum about cakes. But I didn't see any listing for SOG.

You can order from GF which has a fantastic bakery. It is not far to walk to the Poly, ride the monorail over to the GF or you can just walk over enjoying the view along the lagoon. Gosh SOG has a wonderful location. :cheer2:

I got this e-mail from SOG today. I sure hope it shows up.

Sounds like a pretty great deal to me. :thumbsup2

I know a couple of years ago when we were there for a rehersal dinner I had to go to Publix in Windermere to get a special cake. I don't know why they picked that one, but I drove to get the cake. It was a baseball cake for the father of the groom.

Does Shades of Green have wireless internet or service or only in the rooms ? I am brining my laptop and probably have a little bit of work to do in the evening. Hope it is reliable ! Anyone know if they charge per day ?

The first post of this thread does an excellent job of explaining the internet service available at SOG. :thumbsup2

We're preparing for our trip next week, and want to get my "Housekeeping" envelopes ready. Does anyone here have any suggestions on how much to leave daily for the maid?

we did the standard $1 per person per day.
And the housekeping was awesome!
One day we were still in the room, and so told her we were ok for the day, she still came in and changed the towels and trashbags.

Does anyone know if the Dale Earnhardt driving experience gives a military discount? Also, I know there is a military discount for tee times at the Magnolia and Palm golf courses, but are there any fishing excursions or other "MAN-LIKE" activities that you can book through the Shades? Bottom line: my husband is the anti-Disney and is going to be miserable, I need as many man distractions as I can find to keep him from making DD and I miserable too. I wish there was a Hooters on Disney property, I'd have no problem keeping him occupied.

We will be leaving in just 25 days for the Shades of Green ...

I have a rental car for the last three days ...

Does Shades of Green charge to park there if you are a guest ???

Will they give us a parking pass for the parks like other disney resorts do???

Now that I see so many complaints about the bus service in the AM I am worried ... should I just get the car for the week and forget the bus for EMH's. We are big park openers ... I like to get up early even on vacation.

Does anyone know if the Dale Earnhardt driving experience gives a military discount?.

I think you mean Richard Petty Experience. Don't have an answer for that but you can call 1•800•BE•PETTY for information. There are discounted greens fees, I don't remember what they are though.

Does Shades of Green charge to park there if you are a guest ???

$5 per day and yes parking is free at the theme parks. We usually rent a car and it depends on circumstance whether we drive or ride the bus. I think the buses are OK most of the time -- especially to the TTC.
